State of PvP

Current Rift player but with ESO at $23 and no sub coming in a few months I want to make the dive but just a few things.

1. RIft changed everything that Raid gear is king in pvp, if you dont raid you are weak and frail. with ESO if i strictly want to do the main pvp area at max level could I get respectable gear or am I going to get destroyed by people who do pve content?

I have no issue doing pve content but I play with 4 other people and we don't have the 2+hours all the time to do raid content so I just want to make sure I can still have fun and be competitive.

so to sum it up with less words: Can I get geared for PvP by PvP'ing, 5 man, and open world content only?

Most of top sets for PVP and PVE are crafted or very commonly dropped so you are safe to focus on PVP. There is not much you will need the PVE for except maybe for the skill points from dungeons/historyquests/skyshards...

You can get most sets crafted for a fee, or you can simply research traits and craft the gear yourself (each of your friends could max a craft line to make it easier for all of you).

Now you must have in mind that leveling is a lot faster pveing than pvping, but if you have no problem with it, you wont be gimped except for the skill points (and the need of them depends on how focused you are in what you want to build, or how polyvalent you want to be).

I recently bought a key for a friend for 13€ (explorers pack).

Everything is about to change.  The answers you get now will not be applicable when 1.6 launches.  Right now you have to pve if you want to level.  Best gear is crafted and fairly cheap.  If you figure out how to turn your pvp points into gold then you can easily buy everything you need.  Sometimes the pvp gear is good so people just buy that instead.  Right now I have to pve to save money so I can PVP.  Like I said it all is about to change so none of this could still be applicable in 2 months.  I'm hardcore pvper but I tell you don't want to enter warzone until you are lvl 40 in the non vetran and lvl 50 in the vetran.  Thornblade is the full pvp war that always has action and the non vet has action during peak hours.
Are you onto something or just on something?

Appreciate the feedback. This is what I was looking for.

I think i worded it poorly. I will be doing PvE to level and understand the game also do dungeons now and then. Just with Rift, if you didn't raid you couldn't pvp but it seems that is not the case for ESO.

and yes I'll keep an eye out due to the major changes coming.
