26 Mil SP - thinking about coming back to Eve

DirossDiross Member Posts: 179

I've been away for almost a 13 months and been thinking about coming back to the game. I didn't experience the Cold War nor Red Moon Rising. Was wondering what the vets think about the changes since this time frame. I have 26.4Mil SP and wondered what content there is with all the changes.

Anyone think the game has vastly improved in terms of client stability (less lag), features, economy, PvP, etc?

Cheers. image

Honestly, I'd wait until the new hardware is installed and running. There have been a lot of new additions since Cold War and RMR but there's nothing as drastic as the Exodus patch was.

You will find a lot of new additins to the game, new skills to go after and a hord of new ships out there.  A more specialized breed of ships like covert ops, heavy assaults and the like.  With your skill points as high as they are you will be able to addapt very quickly to the new setting.

I agree with the other post, wait till the new hardware is in.  The sysem is over stressed and showing it.

The last comment is why did you leave to begin with?  Because the reason you left may still be there.  Even though the ships have changed and skills increased, the game paly is the same.  Pirates still gank everything that moves into anything below 0.5, and those who choose not to play PVP are still trapped in empire space wondering what to do with all their time in game earned skills.  The few PVP players still control the vast majority of space that is worth going into at a 20 mil + skill level.

So in short if you like PVP, come back as soon as the hardware is done.  If you dont care for that side of the game, then dont waste your time, the developers are still pirates in their spare time. :)

(BTW I have been in for 3 years so I guess I qualify for experienced, although many have been in longer)

I never really understood how anyone could "dislike PvP". You might dislike some of the mechanics, or the loss penalty, but how can you actually dislike fighting other players...its like NPCing against an intelligent enemy.

I some what agree with you.  PVP or for that matter any "real person interaction" is what makes the MM so enjoyable.  However I do understand how someone can find a MM enjoyable for other aspects than combat.  In my opinion the best part of EVE has nothing to do with the combat, but rather the very elaberate economy that has developed inside of it.  Some players spend there entire game learning and gaining advantage in this market.  For these players the PVP side of the game is mostly a henderance, something that keeps them from exploring the vastness of 0.4 and bellow.  These players would prefer to be able to not loose a ship every day, so for them EVE and other MM games slant to the PVP side is bothersome.

The game itself is strugling with this very thing, the DEVS would love to get more people out to 0.0, spread the crowd out.  However as long as PVP players gank at gates the economy based players will not go out and loose their hard earned money at the hands of other players.  So they gather in JITA and other over burdened areas and enjoy their game and leave the rest to us to ours.

Even though I have a POS in 0.0 space, and make my money out there, I agree with those who say this game is favored to the pirates.  Time and time again I hear good, mature players leaving EVE for this exact reason.  I think the game is worse for their leaving.  They leave for other games that are not slanted toward PVP, as EVE is.  Thats why I mentioned it in the original post, in case that was the situation.

Come back and give it a bash

The game has changed immeasurably in the last year.
Carriers, Dreadnoughts, A whole new map config of jumpgates. New Alliances, new BPOs etc etc.
I been playing for 3 years and am still learning it.

The lag issue has become a problem recently, with close to 25000 players on the server. They have just spent almost £2m on hardware which is being installed this month which is expected to improve the speed and accommodate up to 75000 players.

I had a go on Guild Wars recently and was decidedly unimpressed and have also tried a few other MMORPGs in the interim (3 years of Eve can become a bit of a bind) and found that nothing on the planet can compare to Eve.

I thought they only keep your character stored for 6 months after inactivity, isn't that true?

I blew up my 6th Apoc in Deklein already ... probably stick to GW's arenas until they install the new server and our corp are going to war in next few days image

ah I thought when u quitted there hasnt a POS (player owned station ) and Capital ships yet, now is better, 0.0 spaces are populated now, ISK is far more easier to make and several heavy specialised ships has been introduced , cheer for the capital ages ( Carriers - Dreadnaught - Titans ) now every alliences are fighting in capital ships, they lost 3-4 of Dreads when crashing each others - heard of using carriers in the south and the 1st activition of a Titan somewhere, named items drop like hell , 10m per best large named turrets be4 RMR and now it's around 6m per pop. Faction BSes are easier to get, 950m per Navy Megathron and they are selling all over in escrow.  load of new skills to learn ... bleh , pvping now is far more choices, and the Torp are not going to hit Frigates like be4 , far more weaker I must say, also the micro miners being killed everywhere easily w/o being owned by CONCORD in empires.

I think you should give a closer look if you have been that long away ^^
