APB: Reloaded: Devs Begin Sharing 2015's Vision

The APB Reloaded team has taken to its official blog to begin laying out the plans for the upcoming year. According to a recent forum post, players can look forward to hearing more about engine updates, hardware upgrades currently ongoing, and the console release dates for the game.

The first post, however, deals with matchmaking and what changes are in store for the system:

  • players responding to surveys at the end of 2014 indicated that the matchmaking system is in dire need of an overhaul

  • while the system works well in any given district, there aren't enough teams to keep matchmaking interesting and viable in the long term

  • developers plan to implement a cross-district matchmaking metric that will utilize "team skill levels"

  • teams will be assigned to the 'best possible' match

  • the goal is for a better experience for both veteran players and new players

APB will never be a forgiving game. Hopefully the changes will help though. It really is a fun game with a decent F2P model, but yeah. Definitely not a forgiving title. I wish MMORPG would try to get an interview with them.

I played the beta on through launch on to when it was shut down. I considered it the most frustrating game out there but it was also the most fun. The cheating ruined it for me. However, in the past 6 months, I have returned to play on a small scale. The game has been vastly improved and I look forward to more improvements.

The team at Reloaded is typically amenable to interviews. Back when I was a journalist I interviewed their VP. It's not a bad game, and they do seem to listen to players and are open about their development when asked.

This was a great game!  I too played since beta till the shut down.  I concur the cheats/hacks ruined the game.   Fix that and I'm sure folks will come back.

It sounds like you're talking about APB. APB: Reloaded picked up where APB left off, with several years of optimization, updates and new features under its belt now. If you liked it back then, it's definitely worth checking out now.

I hope they've continued the work on optimization.  I tried it last fall and it still ran like complete horse manure on my PC, one which runs other, much prettier games at the highest settings perfectly fine.

I might try it again to see.
