Don't feel bad, the fanboys of RF Online have not brainwashed us all. This game truely deserves to be flamed as codemasters banned US player's IP from playing the Philip RFO so that they would be forced to play this horrible port of the game. The game is in "BETA PHASE 3"... what this actually means is they have sucked enough people into pre-orders that they can launch soon and don't give a rats a** about testing bug fixes.. if there are any.

It HAS great potential, but they don't play their strengths out well. I bet most people are interested in played RFO because of the PVP emphasis, and you grind 95% of your gameing time. Compared to any eastern OR western PVE the grind of RFO is FAR below standart atm. Even Lineage 2 or FFXI have far better PVE grind, simply because you see much more things and have more things to do and styles to play.
As the game is now it is terrible, which is sad because it could be good with some easy to apply changes.

1. Graphics are very appealing. They're not the most technologically advanced graphics out there, but like I said, they're nice to look at. Don't get me wrong, they're not the most beautiful graphics I've seen, but they're consistent in quality which is nice.
2. The combat is different. Its not so much your typical auto-attack and wait model but rather Diablo-esque. Some will obviously like it, others won't.
3. Its your typical Asian MMO. Kill monsters over and over, and well, over again. Quests are dull and not very exciting (Maybe they get better at higher levels?). Now, some people like this type of gameplay. People who like Lineage 2 will be at home here.
4. Open-ended advancement system is neat. I still don't understand all the mechanics of it, but it seems like you can pick up different skills from different professions (I.E. be a warrior but learn some range skills).
To be honest, if you're currently enjoying a MMO atm, don't bother switching unless you're absolutely looking for an alternative to L2.
I kinda like this game. Mainly because of the Sci-Fi/Fantasy theme which I think is cool. I am really thinking about getting this game (maybe not preorder but when it hits stores).
I consider this to be a horrible game, the controls are horrible, the graphics are acceptable(sp?) and everything else varies from below average to worth-jettisoning-into-deep-space-crap.
Accept from one thing.
The grind
The grind is worse than Lineage II, FlyFF, and many other games that are just a grind, all you do in RF is target, attack, spam potions. That's all you do. Don't crap me with the whole PvP and mining thing. One on one PvP doesn't exist, and group PvP is horribly unbalanced. Mining just involves clicking a few things and going AFK.
This game is not good.

How can you say the controls are horrible? It uses some of the same controls as many other MMOs... You can use the WASD control or use mouse which is fine. The thing about mining, If it was real then what is technology or magic(I think thats what the Cora use) is made to do? It suppose to make life easier so you can just sit there and mine away without much effort. It not like you need to get a pick axe and pick away at some mining spot.

Well, I can say the controls are horrible by either hitting the keys with the correct letters on, or using my mouth.
What is your point with mining? The mining system is crap, you click things, go AFK and come back a few hours later. It sucks

I think u'll find that its in beta phase 2 still, they just added filplanet subscribers to add to the phase 2 stress test - how long did u actually play the game for, coz ur getting ur facts from an unreliable source
oh and press H to change controls. Thes can be edited now manually, and probably will be edited next phase or giga

I'm enjoying RFO much more than the likes of WoW or Guild Wars.
I played both of those for a maximum of 2-3 hours, and I was bored out of my mind.
RFO is actually good fun, and its still in beta and incomplete.
Roll on release!

If your tired like I am of every MMORPG on the market which has Warrior, Priest and Wizards
as a main Class to play. This game is a change up if your into Guns, Mechs and just a Fantasy
game with a Sci-Fi twist. Its worth a shot to play and took me a few hours just to figure out
game play and goals. However the quest system is a Grind fest but what game isnt out there,
now unless your into deep EQ questing.
So even if you still likes Melee weps, this game got it, you likse casting spells, game got it.
Just remember, its still Beta and who knows what to expect on the conversion to us peeps outside
the western frontier.
For now, its a great downtime game from DAoC and WoW, but dont expect it being either one
of those games. I say a cross between FFXI/L2 graphics meets Planetside. But thats just my
opinion.

If you dont like grinding, then your game will def be playing Dungeons and Dragons Online.
I dont care much about this game, but If you want to immerse into a game deeply, this is the
one for you. Esp with the Daytime Actor voice while playing the game. LOL
RF Online,, when I found out about the WSAD Keyboard Commands, I was extremely happy.
I played the point and click method until someone told me about the CTRL-H (H) and (V) for
jumping commands.
I can put up with the grind fest, but which mmorpg game isnt out there. WoW does it, DAoC
is another that tells you gotta kill X amounts of npcs, yadda yadda yadda.
So I am use to the abuse. And peeps love the leveling tree anyways, like what levels mobs are
they and what level should I be. Until they make something original with MMORPG's, this is what
we got to deal with.

RF has taken me out of my addiction to Project Entropia. That is saying alot since I have played that game since December 2003.
PS- Fix that damn client loader / log-in Server please!
