Whatever is or isn't in that shop when they launch it, one thing is for certain. It's going to need to carry items players will want to buy. They will start off tame and push from there based on sales. It's a slippery slope and I will be waiting to see how they do it. While I dislike Cash Shops in all games and would prefer never to see them at all, I have learned to accept  2  MMOs with cash shops and still be willing to play, subscribe and even make purchases. Here's to hoping they are more interested in maintaining the integrity of their game vs. making a quick buck.

    Hahahaha...ugh.

You know this means repair kits are going to become rare outside of the shop right?

This is an absolutely silly concern.  It's so easy to fill soul gems it's stupid.  And you can buy them for relatively cheap unfilled from merchants.  They're not exactly rare.

This is just another one of those 'convenience' items to save someone a minute of time.

If The Old Republic, WoW, and League of Legends have shown us anything, it's that people LOVE to spend money on costumes/special mounts.  Some of those WoW TCG loot card mounts run for upwards of $1000 on eBay.

i was playing rift when it was p2p and got all cool stuff with acceptable grind.. went free to play and now i have pay extra even as patron.

same story for swtor and now eso joins the cash grab f2p or b2p machine.

Thats why i prefer P2P with ingame currency option to pay the sub, like EvE,  WS etc (PLEX & CREDD). You get the full pack with minimum grind and you also avoid cash shops, P2W, paywalls and ofc the infinite grinding...

All Time Favorites: EQ1, WoW, EvE, GW1
    Playing Now: WoW, ESO, GW2

I like how the store is.  There's nothing that you have to buy, but there are a lot of things I want to buy.  The potions and soul gems are just for convenience,  you can go and farm soul gems fairly easily, it just takes time.  You can craft potions, but it just takes time. Can't wait to run around on my Male Orc in a wedding dress lol.

I repeat my hopes again, but I would not like that it would be like SWTOR at all. Aside of those pay to win games which imitate f2p, SWTOR is the worst b2p or f2p. Once you cap level, It has too many limitations of the things you can do. It is free to try, but no b2p or f2p.

When you compare the cash shop model of ESo with the one in SWTOR, my spine shakes in fear :-P

For the explanation you gave us, it is more like GW2 I think and it makes me happy this decission. We will see how they will manage in the future the updates of content/DLC.

As long as they don't have gambling boxes like the Cartel Crates in SWTOR . To be honest, my wife simply can't handle that kind of lotto type random loot box and will spend more than she should and then feel guilty about it.

I think Rift had this kind of thing too where you buy boxes that have a small random chance to have rare items. My fear is that more and more MMOs will add this in since I'm sure it makes a lot of money.

    That's her whole point. She's like a rumor/shock/artist.

ESO system has next to nothing to do with Swtor. TSW is the closest. Swtor is f2p and limits normal game play w/o using the cash shop, and sells gold... ESO is b2p and does not limit normal game play at all and does not sell gold.

With the way the devs, in all their announcements and Reddit AMAs, refuse to acknowledge that there's ANY downside to going B2P--ignoring ALL questions about its impact on other games and long term effect on the game as if they don't exist---- it makes it clear they aren't listening to anyone but their own accountants.

I tried, I really did, to stick with this game, hoping they had a vision and were going to keep improving it into a genuine TES/MMO hybrid game I'd be proud to play.  But its pretty clear they played the loyal PC players by having us beta test a console version, and misled those that were convinced this would be the MMO that took the high road instead of  the quick F2P cash grab, and especially the ES fans who deluded themselves into thinking this would ultimately evolve into a quality entry in the franchise instead of just another frigging cash-store-cosmetic -bling and pet-filled crap-fest of a game.

Good luck to those that seriously believe their promises about it not becoming P2W or that development efforts won't become centered around store fluff.  Zenimax has shown, again and again, they are about as honorable and trustworthy as Lance Armstrong.

Lol... we don't have to take anything on faith. It's really quite simple: if they put something in the cash shop that I object to, like gambling chests or non BOP items that enable cash for gold exchanges, I'm gone.

What I won't do is leave before that moment comes, if it comes, because I fear it might. That's just plain silly.

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

No, silly is sticking around when it's pretty clear where the game is heading.

A lot of the lure of MMOs is that they are an investment in time and commitment--developing characters, crafting, skills. learning the lore and combat systems--all in the anticipation that game is going to stick around a while and you can enjoy a long term progression over time. No game stays great forever, but when the writing is on the wall like it is for this one, I'm not going to invest another minute building and progressing knowing I'll just have to quit six months from now.

    • If we agree that the 10% bonuses - as detailed are "trivial" / "not p2w! then:
    • until there is some DLC then:
    • If you subscribe then the only thing your sub will buy you is some crowns.
And the only thing you can do with the crowns is ..... spend them in the cash shop.

Save the crowns to buy the DLC? .... not only would that negate the "access to all DLC" "benefit" but ........ why not just buy the DLC.

Bottomline: unless you believe the 10% bonuses are a big deal all the sub is doing is pre-purchasing $15 worth of cash shop purchases.

    Huh?

There hasnt been a long term game released since the internet started. At least one that has developed and changed with the times to not be completely outdated. These arguments are always the most humorous.

Not ot mention there isnt a game that has ever been made that these things you mention dont simply become a gear carousel. Where you basically go from expansion to expansion and by the time you finish leveling up your toon a new expansion comes along and adds another 5 or 10 levels and makes everything you 'worked' for obsolete anyway.

ESO is 10 months old now, there doesnt seem to be an expansion (thus a level increase) in the foreseeable future, there are however plenty of signs that there will be mulitple content upgrades (DLCs)  that are going to come out. These also have zero level bias meaning they will be pertinent now and forever even when they do add an expansion and a possible level increase.

I am no fan boy or white knight but ESO is basically the exact opposite of everything you claimed was a reason why you didnt want to play it anymore.

So youre either trolling or are clueless. Neither is a good thing.

Seems to be a popular pairing.  I've seen lots of people with just that.

I would like to buy more inventory and bank space. They should probably also cut down the number of character slots (something reasonable like four) and sell extra slots.

    No; you don't.

That you want some extra inventory and bank space - sure; has been one of the "grumbles" since the day launched. You don't want this type of stuff in the cash shop though. There is a slippery slope and when they add these the ball is a-rolling.

And there will be a conspiracy theory thread as well: slots limited on launch to sell later. Cringe.

This cash shop reminds me of how lotros started and look at it today!  It won't be long before you start seeing crafting supplies and some things that people will call questionable "P2W" items.  The only question is how long will it take?

I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.

Selective memory much? This is an overview of the different options after it went F2P from Oct 2010

A thing people never seem to talk about with these "cash shops" how the stupid silly "cosmetic" items totally ruin any sense of immersion in these games. Mighty warriors running around the dangerous world fighting evil wearing ridiculous items...
