Fighting Urge to Play WoW again

Well WoW is one MMO that I thought I could spend a lot of time playing like I did when I was playing EQ.  The camera control is sooo smooth, the graphics look nice without needing Uber_System_01 that is about $1000 and moving the character around in the game is really not all that hard and is really smooth.

However, I got my first 60 which was a Orc Warrior.  I ran my 5 man LBRS to get my blackrend's bredth and do my quest for the onyxia quest.

After killing Drak I had a bad experience with another Warrior who thought he deserved an item more and it should be defaulted to him without roll.  Well I left the game since I didn't want to deal with the loot whoring that is in PUGs.  I mean I can do raids and what not but the problem is that finding 40 other people to play with seems really hard.

I keep following the forums on the website to see if there will be some kind of solace for the people who do not want to take the time to get DKP systems in order and the hassle of other players.  I did all that crap in EQ ans just wish WoW could have kept it out of their game.

Sometimes I wish that the best gear was player made and that you had to get item drops from 5 or 10 man instances that could be easily done by a small guild.

Sigh I miss what WoW used to be in the levels from 10-50 so much BS with loot in the 50-60 range. Oh well

I know where you're coming from. I have a priest with the best gear it's possible to have from outside MC, but 40 raids just didn't do it for me. It's like hearding cats, I just don't have the patients. So with nothing else left to do with the character, I stopped playing him.

Now you could easily say that I was just doing it with the wrong group, but I asked some mates who where doing regular MC runs how much fun it was, and the unanomos reply was that it wasn't as much fun as 5man, 6 hr runs to do MC were too long to be fun, but it was a nessicary evil to collect the epic gear.

But rather than chuck the game I just played with a diff character. First I got my warrior up to 60 & collected some decent tanking gear for him, then I started a hunter (great character), & did allot of PvP on my way up.

I've had so much fun with the hunter. I collected a PUG for WC & kept them with me all the way. We did all the instances together & I showed them how it's done. We had so much fun doing the lowbie stuff as a team. Plus with a couple of 60's to finance him & knowing how to play, I was able to do some serious damage in the BG's. I got recognised as a good player & was regularly invited to join a set group with regular PvP guys as we went up the levels.

So just because you're not arsed collecting the full epic set from MC, the fun doesn't have to be over, though saddly the life of that character does. Unless you can accept doing PvP with gear that you know is weaker than many others, he's done.

Still the joy of having some good guys & taking on SFK together should not be knocked. Give it a try with a very different class. Try rolling a priest or a mage & don't be in a hurry to zerg through the game, just get the most out of it as you go up through the levels

The race doesn't always go to the swiftest, nor the battle to the strongest, but that's the way to bet.

I had a great time bringing my char up to lvl 50 but then i got involved in the race to get the best gear, etc. Instead of completing i decided to leave wow and get on with real life for a while. I have been missing wow and some of the discussion with my friends about how things are going. But i dont miss the "get uber gear" race.

I think I rather try some of the other mmos coming out thsi year. Wow was good fun, but I feal its time for something else.

The one mistake Blizzard made was in hiring Tigole and Furor. That those nerds got to work for Blizzard is a travesty in itself but the effect they had on WoW's endgame design is the real crime. They'd be smart to discontinue the entire concept of 40-player raids while WoW is still relatively young. And fire those two schmuks while they're at it. ::::02::

Furor as in leader of Fires of Heaven Furor?

If that is the case then there is no hope for WoW as it will be turned into an EQ reject.  I kinda just wish DAoC had the play control and camera control that WoW has because then I would never leave DAoC such an awesome game but it feels too clunky.

It is a shame that WoW is being turned into nothing but content for 40 man teams and that they choose to make it so those who go through it get the best stuff.  While those with a different play style get shit and are then expected to Queue up so the raiders can beat them with their better gears.  No ty

I played WOW for around 6 months, leveled a rogue to 60 then quit. Never liked the game that much. Just played it to pass the time and try to get over my swg fix. Not that its a bad game, Just wasnt the thing for me.

I tried those 40 man groups in MC and after around 45 min to an hour I was falling asleep at my comp. I couldnt stand them. After trying the 40 man MC 3 times I said fck it and never went back.

Im still waiting for another mmo I can play that had me goin like the old days of swg. All the new mmo's that are comin out dont seem to be that good by reading the reviews on this website so any recomendations would be appreciated.

Try DAoC or EQ2. If you've been to the hell that is top level in WoW, those two games will be a real treat. WoW is amazing, but getting to the high level can bore you right to death.

Yeah.  The whole point of groups is interactivity and cooperation.  When you get beyond 10 people you start to become more and more of an expendable unit.  For that reason, I tend to enjoy 5-8 man groups where we all know each other or at least can think on the same wavelength.

When you get a lot of random people and throw them together, there can be bickering and mistrust.  After I got my priest up to 60 I just rerolled other chars and started over again with another character.   It is just a lot more fun to work with a small group.

I am quickly approaching lvl 60 on my first toon which I created when the game was born. I took a few months off here in there expecting the end game to be the major flop that it turned out to be. Now I'm not one to Herald a game company, but I have to hand it to Blizzard.

They started with 12-15 servers the week of release and have now expanded to well over 200 in the matter of a year. They weren't prepared for this, heck no one would be prepared for this.

I think much of the time and money that they were planning on putting toward game and end-game development went into more servers and networking junk. Granted they could have stopped selling the game in stores and aliviated much of the growing pains that they had.

If they had done this, there would have been too many people complaining about not being able to play, or too many people hawking their accounts on ebay for big bucks.

Instead blizzard sucked it up and started creating hundreds of server farms and hiring the people to take care of them.

Now that the population has somewhat levelled out we are starting to see some very nice things from this Dev team. Heck I never thought BG's would ever hit the live servers, but it did. I never ever thought we'd see SS bags for locks, but we got em.

I think that in their haste to create more servers and keep up with demand that they have neglected end game. But I think that they know that they have done this. I also think that because of their track record that they will be looking for new ways to bring content to the end game player.

I think increasing the lvl cap is a great start, but I am really loooking forward to housing and epic quests. This company is good to their players and have always pumped out great products.

I say let them catch up to the amount of players and then you will start seeing some great stuff come out.

As far as having to have the best loot. Thats nonsense. Most of the players who grind dungeons for hours on end are used to having 39 other people with them to pick up the slack. Heck Warlocks are supposed to just sit there and spam SB. My 58 lock has taken down some pretty geared out uber 60's with ease.

The problem is that the community has defined what they feel is the best class and the best build and the best set and the best way to take a certain class and the best blah blah blah blah. But when you don't read that crud and you go out and fight for your life you will be able to beat these people that may have never seen a class played like the way you do.

I have been feeling the urge to come back, I have a 60 Rogue. Being a rogue in MC is not fun, nor are they all that useful. So I lost interest and left. I loved 5-15 raids, but 40 raids took too long to organize and I found myself waiting for hours on end. But for some reason I have this urge to come back too. But I know ill get bored, and be way behind now (being out for half a year or so).
