In 2012, Nexon purchased a block of stocks in NCSoft and became the largest shareholder. Pledging at the time not to interfere with NCSoft's management, Nexon has since rescinded that statement and has inserted itself, or tried to, in the day-to-day affairs of NCS.
Calling Nexon's style vastly different from its own, NCSoft is keeping track of outstanding stock purchases and calling on Nexon to back off its stance as injurious to shareholders and stock prices as well as its ability to compete.
We should learn more when each company's financial statements are released later this month. We'll keep you posted.

I know the hate for NC is big but .. what if Nexon was pulling the strings?
Not even I want to imagine that mess.
Good analogy!

Agreed, i haven't played one of their games in a long long time now. And I don't see that changing in the future either.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
both were bad, not played either of their stuff for a couple of yrs at least, they were both out to frisk teh player base out of as much as possible, as quickly as possible, guess you can say if you did not use teh cash shops in their games every week you would soon fall behind (and also not be able to do content). this worked out 3 or 4 times more costly than a monthly sub ever would have been.
Thus for 2yrs (maybe longer) i have stayed well clear of them and their so called F2P bullshit.
So the Virus infecting Cancer is probably well placed analogy
Guild Wars 2. And its the only game im worried about if Nexon tries to pull something nasty with NCSoft
EDIT: and Blade and Soul even though i am slightly losing interest since the russian version was just another generic quest grindfest.
But there is a cash shop in Lineage II and Aion. There is no Lineage III yet though they do have Lineage Eternal.

And this is why you watch your stocks closely, and make sure that no matter the circumstances you hold the majority of shares (if you decide to go that route).
As much hate as NC Soft generally gets from players, I actually find them to be more reasonable than most publishers currently. It is disturbing indeed to think what would happen if Nexon actually manages to get the upper hand and starts turning NC Soft into a much greedier company.
I'm actually surprised Nexon has as much influence within NCSoft as it currently does. The conflict of interest seems fairly obvious from the outside. I have to wonder if they'd go as far as to jeopardize their own ROI to punish NCSoft's operating capital, being as they are in many ways competitors.
You are right but aion didn't start as a cash shop and when it went free to play i stopped playing so I can't speak on that. But as far as Guild wars 2 how does the cash shop seem bad? Its all about looks. And at the end of the day when you look at it, if you play the game and get gold you trade gold for gems which makes the game free still. I have 3 lvl 80's and have been off and on for while now. So where is the grind at? It is very easy to lvl in that game. You can hit max lvl in a day i f you want to.
I agree Nexon buying in NCS was bad on NCS part.
I've been on this boat for years. In 2012 a pretty big shift in the development came in GW2 also.
Whenever i step outside, somebody claims to see the light
It seems to me that all of us have lost our patience.
'cause everyone thinks they're right,
And nobody thinks that there just might
Be more than one road to our final destination--
I believe that is because ArenaNet wouldn't do it any other way, no matter who had the purse strings or distributed their games. The rest of NCSoft's online games are certainly not as friendly.
gems for gold coupled with the fact that they nerfed drop rates pretty early on, super inflates the price of high end items on the tp. simultaneously lack of available farming due to said low drop rates resulted in pigeonholing people in to specific gear make ups in order grind dungeons. The game is based around horizontal progression and cosmetics, so the akward gap in prices does make for a stupid long grind if you aren't willing to open your wallet. that and lotto boxes are lotto boxes(its a way to get around gambling laws that just doesn't sit well with me)
that being said NC softs business model is pretty moderate(especially for an eastern publisher) and they tend to limit themselves for pay for convenence and cosmetics. some of their decision making like closing CoH even though it was making 2mil a Quarter, rushing out wildstar and not regionalizing BnS to the west seem kinda bad thou.
while nexon seems to be shit all around.
Heheheh could not agree more..
Boobs are LIFE, Boobs are LOVE, Boobs are JUSTICE, Boobs are mankind's HOPES and DREAMS. People who complain about boobs have lost their humanity.
Don't really have much respect for these companies.
Nexon bringing the absolute worst products from KR to NA/EU and NCSoft not being able to realize the potential of BnS year or two ago and instead insisting on supporting Wildstar.
If I had to pick I'd go with NCSoft due to Guild Wars 2 and upcoming Linage Eternal simultaneous global release.
