Any MMOs worth playing?

monochrome19monochrome19 Member UncommonPosts: 723

Are there any MMOs currently out that are worth playing? I resubbed to WoW and it became very apparent that this xpac wasnt intended for previous players but retired ones, and while I still enjoyed it, I've lost interest. I really enjoy PvP but I can't seem to find a game that can even remotely compete with WoW. I've tried LoL but honestly, I'm not a big fan of game like that, there seems to be some kind of disconnect. Anywho, I've tried dozens of free games and to no avail. I'm currently playing FFXIV and it is simply horrendous. I played during the beta and liked it but now I realize the only reason its maintained the sub model is because of fans devout to the FF logo. I'm thinking of giving ESO a try once it goes free, the beta was really nice. The only other game I can think of is Tera and its unplayable without a controller (which I dont have atm unfortunately. I'm a clicker lol).

So is there anything on the market that is actually WORTH playing? If not, I'll just wait until these beautiful Korean MMOs make it to the NA or Overwatch releases. They really know what their doing over there it seems lol.

Tried GW2? It is really well made with a good engine.

It is a bit different from Wow which might be a good or bad thing for you, it isn't as focused on gear and doesn't have any raids but plenty of massive open world content. It isn't free since you need a box but it is far cheaper than Wow at least. I would say it is your best option since you didn't like FF XIV.

ESO might also be worth a look but I would wait until it goes B2P with that one, it will be in a few months.

If you like story and instances you might also consider TOR, it is far more about telling you a single player like story but if that sounds fun it does that very well.

Sounds like burnout if WoW is what seems the best for you now.  Like the others said though, maybe consider GW2.  It breaks from all of the typical MMO formulas which if you are suffering burnout, it might be the breath of fresh air you need.  However, if you are in love with the trinity, gear grind, raids, or quest hubs then I would actually advise against GW2 becuase it is none of those things to some peoples' disappointment and to others' approval.

EDIT:  I must have passed over where you said you are a clicker.  Maybe LOTRO or SWTOR?

"worth playing" is subjective. Quite a few MMOs are worth playing for me.

Marvel Heroes, Warframe, Star conflict, may be POE, STO.

I actually quit gaming basically, there's nothing around, they all have major flaws, some more than others. The WoW xpac is exactly like you said, for casual players and people who have never played/weren't playing previously.

I don't know what I'd recommend anymore. PoE maybe, even though everybody acts like it's the perfect game when it has horrible issues too. WoW if you've never played it. That's about it rofl.

Maybe you just don't know that all real gamers are too good for today's games, Narius!

They are all awful! Devs don't know what they're doing! Sandbox, sandbox! Full PvP OMG!

My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)

No MMORPG that has come out recently has really been worth playing.

You could try Archeage. It worked for some people that wanted something different. Personally I thought the combat was really dull and that ruined it for me.

I just need to add that most of those aren't MMOs, they're Multiplayer Online games.

Warframe, for example, is not an MMO (even though it does now finally have a duplicated area capable of holding a large number of players)

It is a lobby based game, for the era we are currently in (which is not an era of MMOs. It is an era of lobby based MOs)

Heck, isn't the only game there that can be remotely counted as an MMO, STO? (I haven't touched Marvel Heroes, so I'm unsure on that one)

... Actually, MMO is getting thrown around a lot these days for many games that don't really qualify. It's kinda irritating :

It's a new kind of stupid. But, you're wasting your time with this poster. You're irritated, so his job is done.

The logic is simple , more people like oranges than apples so all apples should look and taste like oranges!

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

if you cant find mmo who is good for you,you should move out mmo genre and stick with SP,co-op,moba only games.

all those other games are the same, built for 8 years old. Like Simon Says, Go do this then go do that..   I recommend you download Ultima online.  Its still the best MMO out there if you ask me. I have played them all.
  • AngryBeaverAngryBeaver Member UncommonPosts: 46

I will add. The Secret world is also worth mentioning.

The rest are WOW with a new Charactor design.

I am happy with Neverwinter. I have played WoW and SWTOR to level cap, and put more than few hours into Wildstar, the Secret World, DCUO, and LOTRO, but I am happy with my home in Neverwinter. Better combat, infinite content. PvP... can be great but there is a strong P2W thing there. Maybe best to look at Neverwinter PvP as a luxury product.

I also like Marvel Heroes... not a PvP game though... not sure if you'd call it an MMO either. It certainly is not an RPG at all.

I can't guarantee that you'll like it but it is your best choice here. It is always impossible to know if someone will like a game or not, but I love it myself at least.

I would recommend that you avoid the thief class in the beginning though since you're a clicker and unlike the other classes it needs you to be really fast. A warrior or a ranger is a good first class to get into the combat mechanics and with those classes clicking wont be an issue. Those classes also feels a lot more similar to other MMOs then classes like Mesmers and engineers.

    Good luck. :)

You beat me to posting that. I guess the guy only ever undocked in a venture and went between an ore belt and a station for however long he played it.

To find an intelligent person in a PUG is not that rare, but to find a PUG made up of "all" intelligent people is one of the rarest phenomenons in the known universe.
