Is there a modern MMORPG with no instancing besides EVE and Darkfall?

cmorris975cmorris975 Member UncommonPosts: 207

Hi all,

I love the concept of absolutely no instances, it really helps me to feel like I am in a world as opposed to just playing a game.  Are there any other modern games that have no instances besides Eve and Darkfall?  I do like those games, but they are both PvP heavy and I don't always feel like looking over my shoulder.

Thanks,

Chris

    Eve has instances.

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

Interesting.  I've never run into an area in Eve that other players couldn't access.

EVE has no instances? What do you think is going on when you warp or enter a wormhole?

All games have some sort of server transfer technology. Archeage is pretty good about offering this type of tech, but you still get lag spikes when you make the invisible switch. But this is a PvP game mostly.

EVE engine is not capable of making game area instances.

I am guessing you have a different definition of instance.  To me, it means a private copy of an area that is cut off from the rest of the players.

Every system in eve is an instance. That is why you cannot dscan into the next system to see if there is a gate camp. If they could allow interacting with other instances to allow dscanning into the next system it would be a much better game. Instead everyone has to have a scout alt or a scout in their group.

I think he's talking more about places in the game that only he can access, most commonly like dungeons or story instances in modern MMOs.

    Zone, the grid is loaded.

Instance means "copy" of the game world - one area that is created for particular player or group of players.

They seem to be talking about what I call "zoning".

The instances have limits but to allow bigger numbers in The instances my understanding is that they slow down processing within the instance to give more scope.

Elit dangerous is another game that disguises instances, already has 100 billion star systems and you can literally spend weeks/months flying in a straight line :).

Thanks guys, but I am going by this as the definition of what an instance is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instance_dungeon

So, by that definition Fallen Earth would not qualify for what I am looking for, but Mortal Online might be just fine.  I am leery of Star Vault's level of quality but beggars can't be choosers so I may give it a shot regardless :).

If you want an immersive experience with no instances then  you can't go wrong with Wurm Online.

Lineage2 had no instances when I played it back in 2005 (heard they added some later? need confirmation)

Oldschool Runescape has no instancing outside of some quests at parts with storyline bosses/puzzles if I remember correctly.

Runescape 3 definitely has instancing everywhere so skip that one.

    Waiting for:
    The Repopulation
    Albion Online
