Latest Development Update released

Here are some of the key points from the letter:

  • The loyalty reward program is being scrapped, but there will be 2 more rewards before Tamriel Unlimited releases for players who have been subscribed since the very beginning - the Striped Senche-Tiger and the Mask of Cheerful Slaughter. The Tiger is for players who have stayed subscribed since Early Access and haven't stopped since, meaning that those players that have the tiger mounts will be recognized as the highest-ranking members of the community. The Mask of Cheerful Slaughter costume is given out for those that have subscribed for 9 months.

  • The only items that will ever be sold in the crown store are DLC Zones, cosmetic items and time-savers such as potions (Which are substantially weaker than crafted ones). Thus, there will be zero pay-to-win mechanics in the store whatsoever.

  • Console controls and its UI were revealed. It's nearly identical to Skyrim's.

  • Again, no character copies unless you bought the game before July.

For those interested, this is the console interface:

As such, I can tell you that we'll almost certainly have experience boost potions in the store at some point, as this kind of shortcut (spending less time to gain experience) is classified as a convenience. That way, you still have the choice of purchasing them with crowns or in-game gold.

And, of course, everyone knows what kinds of customization items are available in the Crown Store: upgraded mounts, cool vanity pets, and both roleplaying and “armor" costumes. These are there for fun and to help your character stand out in the crowd.

We'll constantly be working on new Crown Store items, so expect to see them rolled out on the PTS from time to time.

If you can buy experience, what's the reasoning for playing the game. Didn't they make some veteran ranks, if those come up for sale as part of this, is that what everyone envisions as good?

I don't think you know how experience boosters work.

They don't grant you a certain amount of XP, they merely boost the rate at which you earn XP e.g 50%, 25%, Double etc.

How do you know what they are if they aren't in the game yet.

Are you going off the GW2 experience boosters.

Because that's the way they work everywhere they exist? I suppose someone somewhere in some game has run into potions that just outright grant you experience...but I've never heard of them.

Books in GW2 give you whole level worth of xp. Also there are potions of wxp. And neither are available for gems.

WoW, OTOH, has whole 90 levels worth of xp item in cash shop.

So no, its not really something super rare.

And yeah, its funny they "redesigned" UI for consoles since PC UI needs complete redesign too. No, having addons is not exuse for...thing...they dare call UI.

Any news on console UI & controller support for PC version?

I'm considering whether to buy PC or PS4 version, but if PC won't have official controller support, I'll wait for PS4 version to come out.
