So exactly what is the relevance of this " another player leaving and giving a big long story" post?

I know Andryah... so to speak... from the SWTOR forums and an argument I had with Andryah was the reason I left Ebon Hawke server.

I will neither speak good or ill of Andryah or of their OP on the SWTOR forums.... I will just say "see you on down the road" and wish them well. I can do that for an adversary, because even if I disagreed with them they will be remembered. That in itself is an accomplishment in my book.

It had a very rough beginning and they deserve the shit they got but right now, they're pretty much getting soo much better. I'm just confused.

It's probably burnout + frustration over something that caused the rage-quit in this case.

SWTOR's a much better game these days, with a lot of features added and polished. Now we'll just have to see whether it lives up the hype they're building with all the "SWTOR's Big Year" talk. Well, for the fans at least - haters are always gonna hate.

I was actually stunned at how the OP was unable to articulate even one specific problem with SWTOR beyond a general sense of betrayal and a feeling that 2014 wasn't as good as 2013.  Usually when people write these sorts of things they have a long list of very specific grievances they've been nursing for months or even years.  It's almost shocking to see so little detail in one of these "I quit" posts... which makes me think the OP doesn't actually have a any specific problems with the game and will be back in a few months.

Even more baffling considering the fact 2014 was a much, much better year for SWTOR than 2013. SoR is the best expansion they've had so far and the changes they made in 3.0 (outside of a few OP classes in PVP that will soon get introduced to the nerf bat) are the best to date.

Part of the issue, I believe, was the Slot machines for player's strongholds. It was super unbalanced because some of the rewards handed out with shocking regularity could be traded in for top end crafting mats and it started tanking the economy to the point that within days prices had dropped 50%, and were still falling on many items. People who never took the time to level up enough toons to do serious high end crafting and material gathering could now spend an hour and 50,000 credits to make enough items to gain them millions of credits on the GTN. BW of course looked at the metrics and severely nerfed the slot machines and many felt "betrayed". I think the problem was once they all got together and started commiserating on the forums demanding they be changed back, they kind of fed off each other and started believing that mob mentality rules so BW had to listen, consequences to the economy be damned. When it didn't happen their anger once again fed off each other and these types of I quit posts started popping up all over the place.

The thing they didn't realize is the vast majority of people who play games hardly ever go to the forums and those who do are generally the ones who have something to piss and moan about. So while they might have thought they were in the majority because the first 3 pages in the General Topics forum were nothing but slot machine bitching, the vast majority people were either happy with the changes or simply didn't care one way or the other.

You're probably right. I missed most of the Slot Machine outrage due to not actively playing at the moment, so I haven't visited the official forums much lately. (And missed out on all those millions I could've earned from those slot machines!)

Many MMOs go through these kinds of things, but after a few months it always becomes a distant memory. Neverwinter's seen its share of exploits that players wanted to see resolved in different ways too.

I suspect many of the rage-quitters will start to remember and miss the things they liked about the game in the coming months, and return once their anger at the devs, for nerfing their new toy, has passed. :P

Why on Earth do we need a cut-n-pasted post from SWTOR's official forum to MMORPG.com, from someone quitting the game because of something they are unhappy with? OP didn't even include any specifics.

I fail to see the point of this post.

I too am subbed to SWTOR and I too have been very dissatisfied with the overall class balance sine 3.x and am considering canceling. But I don't even know if my feelings on SWTOR are the same as the person referenced in this thread.

I totally agree with you, and I am basically the same way. The only MMO I've played over my own past 8 months has been Gw 1, and even then only sparingly. Other than that I've been enjoying my Xb 1, and considering the state of MMOs right now, I believe I'll be doing that for the foreseeable future.

You're absolutely right though, people who actually quit just talk with their wallets and leave. The majority of "I Quit" posts are flamed, ignored, or eventually taken down from the forums. Besides, if you're leaving a game, why would you expect any of your feedback/suggestions to be implemented?

My years of playing WoW showed me that most folks who spend the time to craft those quitting posts generally wind up coming back three months later anyway, lol.

For a gaming company to ignore the players who are quitting is throwing money away.  Yes there are always those who are never happy and just ruin the game because of who they are.  But a smart gaming company pays attention to the legitimate concerns of their community.  That's how they get a good community by nurturing them and giving them what they need to be happy in the game.

Bioware listens. Where do you think the renewed focus on story content came from? Countless exit posts (and exit surveys) that told them people were leaving because they were finished with the Class stories.

I think they credited the Cantina events as the reason they're supposed to be revisiting class stories(I've heard mixed to negative feedback on them and I wasn't wowed by them on youtube). But I totally agree that the forums helped get that message across and not just their little drinking parties.

It took them months to fix critical exploits.  They really aren't listening.

The exploits are not particularly related to the decision to continue class stories. The exploits have more to do with the expansion coming out before the Christmas holiday

I agree.  It's the people who spout lengthy diatribes about why they're quitting are the ones that actually care about the game and really don't want to quit.  Most people if they don't like a game they just move on.

exactly. ive quit this game a few different times and have come back, who cares? people that make long winded goodbyes are the ones that are far too emotionally connected to these games and probably should take a step back from the game for their own good IMHO.

Guys, the reason why this certain forum user is getting this much attention is because Andryah, for many years, was known as THE EAware fanboy (you would know this if you actively used SWTOR's forums). She would condescendingly respond to almost any post that criticized the game and tell you her opinions-stated-as-fact as to why you were wrong. She's been a high-profile forum poster for always playing the leading role as the game's White Knight.

This, coming from her, is really astounding. I would always get into many heated debates with her about the state of the game and the quality of development. Additionally, 3 years in a row, for a period of time in 2012, 2013 and quite possibly in 2014, posts would pop up of her being a possible anonymous EAware employee.

Whether or not this is legit, all these posts in this thread and in the linked one are so hilarious that I'm tearing up.

How does such a blatant disregard for common sense suddenly get turned around?  I think she got fired so now she can say what she wants :P

Andryah would usually tear into those who were insulting the devs, or those who posted other non-constructive things that basically meant "Turn the game into SWG 2.0!"

I didn't always agree with her either, but the exchanges were always civil. (Some things I remember disagreeing on: Class Stories, and possibly SWTOR's horrible dye system)

SWTOR's official forums have worse elements in their "White Knights" division, who are completely incapable of reason. (Though it is funny when a change hits that affects them personally and the brown-nosing suddenly turns into whining)

I was quite amused when one of the most aggressive of them posted countless threads on how small guilds (like his own) wouldn't be able compete for the top spots in the Planetary Conquests system. xD

Wow, what a drama LOL. As other say I am sure she will be back.

I actually missed all the drama.

I am taking a break from my computer - literally (all games including SWTOR) as I am extremely hooked right now on watching Doctor Who (how the hell, I could miss it all these yearsimage) and Its going to take me a while to finish it all... though I am watching series 6 now so just 3 more to go (10th doctor is the best btw - so I will probably re-watch series 2, 3 and 4 LOL).

    Well... back to The Doctor....

Can we have MMO based on it???? it would be fun!!!!!

a poll should be started to ask how many times SWTOR fans have quit/taken a break and come back, just to put an emphasis on how pointless this is.

i know personally i have taken at least 3 breaks from this game but i am playing it currently. should i make a thread every time i take a break from a game now?

you guys obviously don't know who Andryah is. She is/was the  biggest EAWare Austin apologist in SWTOR forums, both on official forums and reddit. No matter where we said anything negative about the game or EAWare she would always be there defending them, her answers were always on the line of "if you think you can make better mmo, then do it and gtfo" or "money doesn't grow on tree/money is a big problem, so you can't have the feature you suggested" or "there is no bug in swtor, there is nothing broken or there is no exploit"; that kind of answers. I put her on my ignore list and i guess that is why i missed her "i quit" post. But i am surprised she suddenly got back her brains. Pitiful creature, when her eyes finally opened and saw the truth she could no longer take it. Pfftt..
