When I first started in MMOs I was always a guild leader. On SWG I made my own city outside of Theed, Naboo. In WoW we held up in "Cut-Trhoat Alley" and RPed all night.
But now it's been a while, I haven't found a game sine Darkfall that makes me want to clan up. Mainly because all sandbox games are PVP based these days and the themeparks are too easy and don't allow for good communication and teamwork, this also being due mainly to twitch action combat.
Anyone else wish they just had a fun new guild to start again? Relieve those golden moments of our MMO youth.

Honestly, no. In my current guild I'm not even an officer and I don't miss it at all. I can just be a regular joe without all the backend issues and expectations.
I suspect burnout. lol
Yes and no. I don't have the time to do it right but I do miss it. It seems that I always end up being asked to be an officer etc. and have also turned that down.
My favourite time ever running a guild was in The Realm. Great time and life long friendships made. It also had its headaches.
Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!
I ended up "inheriting" the guild leader position in EQ2 within a year after launch. I was a dedicated, more or less full time player (at least most evenings and weekends.) The existing guild leaders talked to my wife and I and eventually decided we would be best as the new guild leaders.
Keep in mind, this was my FIRST MMO at the time (2004) and I still remember the thrill I got when I actually got to group up with other people on the starter island instance. I was amazed that there were other real people behind the characters I was playing with. I learned as fast as I could as much as I could about EQ2 and MMOs.
So after we became guild leaders, I learned fast that there is a huge amount of background communication that goes on, amongst many other things. Politics, guild events, etc. We even tried to get a raid together once for what turned out to be not a raid instance. We ended up going elsewhere that night and did find a semi-raid instance we could tackle, but ouch.
The leaders that left were disillusioned EQ1 players and just couldn't handle what EQ2 was at that time. I had heard of but never played a single moment of EQ1 so it was all good for me. :-)
Yes, sometimes still miss it, although now there is no way I could possibly dedicate the time and effort required. Maybe someday when the kids are in high school...
That's a great story, thabks!
It sounds like I'm in the position you want to be in atm lol.
I've been a guild leader for over 4 years on my WoW guild, still talk to some of the people I met when I first started the game and was like a level 20 noob lmao. It's fun just to log in and chat, when we get some of the good chatters on, next time I look at the clock it's like 5 hours past my bed time lool.
So, no I'm not there with you, yet. But I think when I am, my current guild will be what I think of. ;')
F-no
its more fun starting the political drama from the shadows then trying to deal with the fall out.
seriously though yeah i wish guilds were more relevant in today's games and wouldn't mind be being an officer in one...but im pretty much burnt out as far as doing the actual starting and leading of guilds.
of course not. (to be fair, i was never a guild leader, only an officer).
Games are much more fun when I don't have to deal with others.
No.
Hated the responsibility. Hated the drama. "Rewards" weren't worth it. Burned out quickly.

Hell nah,
I like to play games to get away from micro managing people, I already do that at work lol.
Absolutely not. Never again.
Never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever again.
I was (co) guild leader in WoW back when the game was fresh and exciting for me. Great fun and it adds a whole new way to enjoy the game, ie: it's not only dungeons and quests but also managing a community.
But now... kinda feel like OP in fact: WoW is too themeparky to sustend my needs. They even REMOVED guild features in the current expansion! I tried GW2 but it's also a themepark though way more guild friendly (you can organize special guild events: fight, boss, puzzle etc. with unique rewards).
So yeah, I'm looking to a good, non pvp focused, sandbox that allow socialization and fun team play. Really hope EQN will do the trick... Else what ?
In the 90's I was made leader of a Clan "Guild" and when that happened most of the players left. The setting was roleplay so the Clan couldn't be shutdown so I did the part and build it back up to about 100 players. That was the most rewarding and fun guild I ever was leader in. I was the supreme commander of the Dragon Army in the Dragonlance roleplaying game/world. I remember those days like no other and the accomplishment I made. Within the past few years I was leader of a 1k member guild in Rift and another 1k member guild in SWTOR. Today I have a hard time finding a sense of accomplishment when running a guild. They recently changed some stuff in SWTOR so guilds control sectors of planets but I think im just happy taking the back seat.
I have also lead armies of 60+ in Rift doing conquest matches. Did the same in GW2 and ESO. I have a good tactical mind but I'd rather sit back and let someone else lead nowadays.
Was a guild leader in UO and although it was a really great experience, I have no plans to ever do it again. I've got a lot of respect for the guildleaders that have been around for years, holding a guild together, managing the drama, and keeping their tribe happy across multiple games. It's definitely not an easy thing to do, and they do it out of passion. It sure as heck isn't for the pay.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein
