Artcraft has announced that Voxel Farm technology is being utilized in Crowfall. Rather than having it used as a creative factor in a sandbox environment, Todd Coleman likens it more to developers building sandcastles for the players to "kick over". The utilization of Voxel tech dovetails nicely with the idea that Crowfall's worlds decay over time and ultimately are destroyed.
Read more about the inclusion of the Voxel Farm in the handy FAQ on the Crowfall site.
The team also revealed the next character archetype, a rather surprising one in the looks department called the Elken Stalker, a ranged DPS specialist. As the name implies, this archetype is a 2-legged elk-headed race. There are not yet any in-game screenshots, but there is a nice back story that can be read on the Crowfall site.

I've eaten elk. It's not bad as far as meats go.

I was wondering the same thing.
Perhaps this game is more MOBA than it lets on.
Some are, like the Forgemaster. But most of the races can use the assasin class for example.
I would bet the classes are limited race bound in that one race may only have afew option for classes etc. (this is similar to how race/class played out in shadowbane).
It looks like you can choose from various Archetypes, but you don't get to modify them, at least not visually, in that sense its a bit like a moba's characters, or something like Marvel Heroes, where you choose a character.
which is the hook for the cosmetics in the cash shop id assume. seems reasonable.
There is gender locking in this game, one sad area IMO. So I would not be shocked if classes were also locked to races.
Probably, but having zero character creation options seems a bit backwards these days, just being able to swap shirts does seem a bit lacklustre if thats the only cosmetic options available, kind of curious though, why is there no character creation option in the game? just seems like a dumb move to use the same old cookie cutters without allowing for variation except the clothes they wear?
When they release all the races we will have 2 factions, animals vs humanoids.
I believe that the Voxel Farm is the same technology that EQN and Landmark is using.
I have to admit this game is beginning to sound interesting to me.
I'm just about at the point where, when I see "voxels!" I kinda roll my eyes. But, I'm glad to see that, at least in this case, they're implementing them in ways that will be strategic (the whole digging under walls to get into a protected area thing, etc).
I also like the idea that the worlds are going to decay over time, so you'll see the world just sorta falling apart and what not, and I think the voxels will do a great job of simulating that.
Definitely should be an interesting game, if they can pull off all they're talking about.
I hate having to temper my excitement/interest with "if they can do it" type remarks... but... well.. it's the only way to make sure I can keep the "disappointment gremlins" at bay.
Come on guys...
Even worse, I heard stories about Gnome Warriors in some games!? But that was obviously a joke.
Evolution they are all talking about in Battlefield Hardline and Frostbyte, haha.
This look actually amazing, destructible walls, where to sign up?
Care to expand upon what you mean by this? While I'm certain there are risks to implementing new tech, but how can this sidetrack anything? I'm also curious about what you meant by "on time" since I'm not aware of any deadlines.
Some people actually care about the games lore. Race locks / few gender locks are there for lore reasons, and as stated by the developers.
Well, at some point someone has to push the envelope, otherwise we'll be playing an endless stream of WoW clones until the end of time.
I'd rather wait longer for the game to allow for overruns due to new tech than getting it on time and being bored with it by the time open beta is done...
i could care less about gender/race locks tbh, what i find 'odd' is that there is absolutely no character customisation at all, is it just to save on creating a character creation tool, because tbh, its such a step backwards that i can't help but feel its going to be a red flag on the game itself.
