Yes alot of people are angry on several things.
To much fluff/not enough fluff
To much linear gameplay/not to much linear gameplay
To much PvP/not enough PVP.
To complex gameplay/to easy.
To much sandbox elements/ to restricted.
It's a hell to be a game developer.
Comments
Game dev has to stop being retarded and trying to make a please-everyone game, and go back to very smartly making a game for a specific target audience.. and then sticking to that audience, instead of changing things part-way through.
Devs are retarded, but the people who run the devs are the bloody idiots who don't understand the market.
And that's why we need more games targeting a specific group of gamers instead of trying to please all. It's impossible, and just end up, pleasing none.
Tell us this is your target group, and you are not going to stray from it under any circumstance. Like Crowfall. Not all are going to like it, but those that are, really are (though I still don't know which group I belong it, when it comes to Crowfall, but kudos to them to try to stand firm).
Edited: RandomT beat me to it.
That's pretty much my attitude too.
To be fair is wishing for different things not exactly the same as being angry.
The problem with MMOs and many other genres is the lack of diversety, not really any specific things. And, yes, some people do get angry when they feel that all games today really isn't made for them but for a large but not so large as many think of players.
Yes. the casual gamer who spend most time soloing is the largest group of players but when everyone aim for them your chanses of making a successful MMO is actually smaller than if you aim for a smaller group that have very few games designed for them. It doesn't help that those players tend to jump game every month or so either.
I can't say that it makes me angry though, a bit frustrated possibly and tired but not angry.
The most annoying games are the ones designed for everyone, they tend to be compromizes that makes no-one happy (well, besides Wow) and players that aren't happy tend to stay a short time. And that isn't strange since the majority of the content is designed for someone else but no-one get enough things to do since you get 40% casual PvE, 10% raids, 20% dungeons, 15% PvP and the rest split up between crafters, explorers and everyone else.
I doubt that most devs are retarded, but if your boss tells you to do something you do it... You might whine a bit but if you don't do it you will be unemployed soon.
I know I'm being obtuse here, but how does everyone not just want this ?
"MMO's, this shit is Checkers now... I want Chess." -me
I don't see these differences of opinion as angry or hostile. We're just talkin games, man.
Feedback is always good, even if it is angry and attacks you. You can mostly filter some useful info out of it.
Someone who would take angry posts/comments about his product personally shouldn't work in game dev. Devs will always get angry comments and flames. By the truckload. Simply beause no game is perfect for everyone due to people having different tastes and preferences.
I agree a lot of anger.
I TOTALLY DISAGREE with your statements as to why !
I see almost zero posters asking for :
- more fluff
- more liner
- less PvP
- To easy
- restricted
INFACT all mmos are made fluff, liner, no open world pvp, to easy, and restricted. I would say everyone is tired of this and are angry.
Yes It's hell being a developer BUT because marketing departments are making them make crap !
There is actually more than a few players who want less PvP, some just prefer PvE.
In my case I think that MMOs either should have 50/50 PvP, close to just PvP or none at all. Many games tend to add a little PvP just to add it to the feature list and that PvP are always really bad and tend to affect the PvE negatively with nerfs that impact the PvE balance badly.
So I either want more PvP or none at all.
As for fluff, people do enjoy different looks on gear, it sucks when players looks the same. What few asks for is 300 different (but often similar mounts), silly hats and backpacks and other things that doesn't add much.
And more easy... When GW2 was in beta there were a lot of people here whining that it was too hardIn fact so many players complained that they changed the difficulty way down (Im still p***** on that).
You are right with some things, devs make stuff like linear and add silly hats and stuff because it is easy and demands little work. With others you are sadly wrong.
