Alright, so I've been hearing a lot about Guild Wars and how it's not based on 'hours of play'. I guess I sort of understand what that means, but if you want to level up, don't you need to spend those hours playing? I've had friends tell me it's good and friends tell me it's not, and I want to know if I should go out and burn a hole in my wallet buying this game...so help me out here.

i played it from beta and all closed... dun really like it its fun in the beginning but it gets boring eventually
Humility before Honor.
In my opinion Guildwars has a very unique, yet appealing play style. With no people outside of towns (unless in party) it makes the game feel alot like a one player when you are out and about doing your solo quests. Partying is just as much fun as in most other MMO's.
Combat is very much skill based, (ie you cant just stand and hack at at a monster, it will win) but that doesnt make the combat overly hard. Infact it makes team play even more fun as you all have your own strengths to contribute to the overall game. The Classes do seemed to be fairly well balanced.
Over all I would say get it. Its a 1 off payment, and it wasnt to expensive (well for me in the UK) I tend to play WoW or EQ2 and pop in and out of GW when I feel like it.
Anyway, thats just my opinion.
Take care all!
I created a new Elementalist at 3:00 a.m. this morning and by 7:00 a.m. had it to level 6. I have 3 level 15s that I got there in a couple of weeks of casual play, but still have yet to get to 80% of the game (max level is 20).
In other words, unlike a lot of other games out there, levelling isn't the only reason or even best reason to play. IMHO, GW has a great story and the graphics are the best I've seen (and I've played City of Heroes and WoW.)
And because there's no monthly fee, feel free to play when you want and spend time exploring instead of trying to get maxed out as quickly as possible.
I can't tell you whether YOU should buy it, but it was good enough for me to buy 2 accounts. YMMV.
^^ - sorry i meant you dont* have to play forever to get somewhere.
Get the game and have some fun with it. You can play the game constantly or as someone else mentioned, you can jump in and out every once in a while and you will not lose anything. Patching is automatic takes 30 secs when you log in. It does not take long to get to the max level, but the game options really open up for you until you get all the skills.
Anyways....like I said get the game and try the PvP, get a good guild and have fun.

If ur a Pvp freak, then Gw is a must.
Most anti-Gwers are Pve freaks. Thoguh the game lacks in its roleplaying elements, the pvp overwhlems the fun. It takes thinking and the right skils to ahieve.
THough, i must warn u...dont get into IWay. ugh.

How many F2P MMO's out there do not become boring "eventually" ?
let me reply to you in this way : im still playing ryl....... 1 ...... perfect pvp for me never gets boring.. even when grinding.. always pvp. . . . .
( and that after 2 years )
Guildwars is certainly worth the money even if you only do the pve component.
If you get into the upper levels of competition in the pvp then thats where the game really shines.
It takes time to play, but not nearly as much as other online rpgs because you can get the best stuff and unlock a lot of skills fairly quickly (Like 40 hrs game time or less provided you come buy some money or get green weapon drops). But the point of the game is to be able to quickly get your character on an even par with everyone else for the pvp. Finding a guild that is actually good in pvp is one of the keys for lasting enjoyment.
It can get boring, but its still worth the money by a long shot.
YOU BET!
any idea how much factions is gunna cost?
Nothng wrong with IWAY, its just a good simple build. Tho by the time he gets to a place where he can use it, the 2nd nerf will be in place.
i got the simplest guild build ever ^^
full tank... 4 defensive stances crimson carapace shield i can get 1K+ health done correclty.. and i always where the last to fall down. i won allota battles with that,

Guild Wards is a great game, one of the best I have played in ages. I tried EQ, and EVE, but I found that I simply didnt want to spend all night, every night playing just to be able to upgrade my dagger hilt in six months, ( okay so maybe it weasnt that bad , but many will know what I mean).
Guild Wars comes in for a lot of stick, but I have yet to find a good reason why, and with Factions on the way soon, the game is only going to get better.
