beta

I got a thing to where I could sign up for a beta stress test, last Tuesday.  I signed up, and waited for some more info.  Never got any, went to www.ddo.com/preorder and downloaded the game.

Saterday it would let me log in and create a char.  However when I tried to enter the game, I just got a "Loading....Please wait".  It stayed here for about 5 min then the game would exit and say connection to server lost.  Tried this 20 times or so and the same thing.

I would have posted on the DDO support forms but it will not let me in there either.

I was going to give the game a shot, but it seems I can't get in.  With all the bad reviews, I'm not going to pay $50 to try it.

Has anyone had the Loading...Please Wait error?  Is so whats the fix?

Check your firewall settings man...  I'm playing on a satelite connection from Taji, Iraq while I am deployed over here (with the Army)...  I share bandwith with over 30 people, and I am still able to connect and play alright (with a some occasional lag depending on networking activity).  Other than that, your's is the first instance I've read of with this issue.  My bet is it's either a Firewall issue or posisbly something with a problem between the game client and your anti-virus software.  You should email your system specs and settings to the Turbine dev team so they can look more into it; in the least, you'd be helping them work out any possible bugs with the client to allow future people the chance to avoid the same problem.

    Thanks

I don't have antivirus software running.

    The WinXP firewall is down.

I have firewall in my router, that I refuse to remove.  I'm willing to open up some ports, but I can't find what ports I need to open.

I play fine on WOW, EQ2, COH, DAOC, GuildWars,...

I did have to open some ports for WOW, but that was the only one.

Do you have an email address for turbines dev team and I'll email them?

I'll try to swing by my room here in a couple of hours and see if I can't log in and get an email address for you to contact them at...  I checked out the game's site but didn't come up with anything.  Don't worry man, I won't forget you - and will get back to you as soon as I have an answer.

Hopefully they can help you open any ports that are required, or even figure out which ones are needed to open (if they don't know already)!  Good luck with this man, and I hope you get a chance to play it for yourself, rather than basing a negative opinion on some people's experiences.  You're also welcome to check out my Review thread - there is a lot of great information on there, as a few of us have collaborated our experiencces and knoweldge of the game for potential players.

EDIT: Alright man, I went into the Support link from the Beta client and it gave me an email address: betasupport@turbine.com.  I probably could have guessed that one, lol...  Well, hopefully they can help you out-good luck!
