I already watched beta videos and did enough homework to know this game was way over rated,i have pretty much put it off my radar completely.
If you simply want graphics and a viable game,go play FFXIV best graphic game out there and plays similar to most games with questing and dailies ect ect.
Even if you didn't know it was an Asian design, you would soon know.Backflips are just ridiculous and spam archers look so fake.Simply a nice looking game with no game play.
This is one of the funniest posts I have read: your advice to people interested in an open world fantasy sandbox with a pvp focus, action combat, and amazing graphics is to play FF14? Lol, I can hardly think of a game further away from Black Desert in overall design concept.
I hate to be the one defending Wizardry but if you read the OP post, he shows a video, and makes a one line comment about the "game playing as good as it looks."
In that context, Wizardry's post makes perfect sense.
Agree the two games are not similar in gameplay however. Well mostly.....as far as the openness goes anyway.
FFA Nonconsentual Full Loot PvP ...You know you want it!!
Asia is doing more for MMOs than Western developers right now. But this forum is filled with Western rpg elitists who can't understand that a game can feature attractive females, absolutely unrealistic armor/weapons, and a bit of fashion and variety in costumes and still be a great game...
Now Playing: Bless / Summoners War Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile

If game-play is all you are into that's great, but the topic has naught to do with elitism. It's simply a matter of taste and preference. One of my favorite game series ever is Shenmue , has nothing to do with being Eastern or western for me.
I can handle silly things in games where I am just casually playing, but something taking a long term commitment needs a more serious tone for me to find it worth while.

I agree they can be great games, but in general I won't play them.
I don't consider my self elitist but I just don't like that particular art style. I prefer my MMO's to be more realistic. Hence I prefer things like Fallen Earth and LoTRO. Even SWTOR was acceptable.
I did play PWI and was able to tolerate that. But the extreme Asian anime designs I just can't handle.
Immersion is something I like and the artificial worlds in most Asian MMO don't do it for me. Black Desert, aside from the combat and character models does not seem too bad, I think I could handle it if I wanted to. Point is, I think art style is a preference, not an elitist attitude.

Oh I don't know about that, I love the art design of Asian mmo's but I still don't like forks and carrots for weapons.
Or wearing jumpsuits or santa hats. I don't have a problem with oversized weapons or fantastical creatures, I just like the art design to "own" the world that it creates and not add the anachronistic whimsical stuff.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
If Aurabullets is accurate then I'm pretty upset. It's like a star athlete that blows their career because of drugs or someone who buys a Ferrari just to drive around their paddock in, or a great mmorpg engine used to make pachinko.

I wouldn't go that far. The OP said he was hoping for something "good" and Wizardy countered with "questing and dailies" so I can understand where the criticism comes form.

It is not about elitism, it is about strong preferences. There are plenty of people too that prefer Asian MMOs because of their style and find other styles boring. So are i.e. fans of cartoony style who find realistic style boring and so on.

Yeah, the devs in Asia really come up with some amazing stuff. The art design in particular is often astounding, really top notch. I remember when I first played Tera I couldn't understand how they could deliver such amazing graphics over the internet in an mmo, and the boss fights were like nothing I had seen before. Too bad we can't get to play more of these titles or have to wait for ages if they ever come out in the West.
Originally posted by Iselin Yeah very pretty but WTF is it with the Santa's elf hat? Just another MMO with no lore integrity in a fantasy setting,
Probably bought it at the cash shop right next to Scream masks, Bunny suits, cat ears and blinged out crotch protectors. Yeah, I'm all over this title. NOT!
So you pulled an assumption out of your arse and won't touch the game because of it? You're funny
I still dont get why people think that the action combat's going be bad. I would rather have my experience be about my skill rather than the pre-determined numbers generated in tab targeting.
Granted if there isnt much end game then yeah, it will drop of the radar within a short period of time, but that doesnt mean when the western port is released they wont have implemented content more directed towards a western audience. If releasing the game was purely on translating, then they wouldnt need such a gap between ports. Therefore they must be adjusting accordingly. I hope, the same as most people, that they dont implement immersion ruining items like the santa hats in the western release and hopefully they would have realised that this would benefit them.
Theres also little details that personally I find quite impressive. The weather system and how the clothes actually soak being one of them. And it being nice on the eyes is never a bad thing. Yes maybe some peoples PC's wont be able to handle it, but its not hard to get a decent working one at a fairly cheap price today.

Not everyone enjoys a game that attracts console players and perverts.
Just look up Black Desert on Youtube and half the videos are of half naked characters dressing up.
If you like dress up or like the pervy side of MMO, Black Desert will be a great game for you, but don't call us elitists because we care more about Lore than a boob slider.
Looking up Black Desert on Youtube and this is the first video I see. 100k views and a whole list of perv videos. Probably all made by men.

He's actually correct.
The game is not even out yet and the pervy dress up stuff has already started.
These Korean games are half porn games and half MMO.
Now all you need is your underage character with bunny ears and the Korean MMO is complete.
Originally posted by DrunkWolf That video reminded me alot of Conan, which is a good thing Conan was way ahead of its time as far as graphics go.
So true and Conan still looks great today. This game looks amazing, Korean mmo graphics are years ahead of anything NA puts out, we're still in Disney mode. This looks like as good as a single player game hard to believe it's even possible in an open world. Look forward to checking this game out. far as glitches and sounds it's still new and in my experience most titles need to mature well after launch. Hell wow still patching.
That looks like a trident. Tridents are fantasy weapons like Poseidons Trident from Greek Mythology
or Aquaman
Yeah, but it actually is a fork.
I believe there are also carrots, a shallot and Korea has some cat skins.
So what who cares, I generally like realistic objects and character models but that's me. Take STO where the skies the limit in your character design. I often see my fellow gamers with tiny bodies and huge heads at max level, why cause they like it. It's an mmo and it's a plethora of different unique ideas of what floats their boat. Actually it's what I find most entertaining in mmos.

Well, since this discussion crops up quite a bit I imagine quite a few people care.
I fully know there are people who love their raybans, jogging suits and whimsical weapons just as much as I fully know there are people who are looking for a different aesthetic.
I personally am not "into" the "whatever floats their boat" mentality as that is what allows people to make "Starbucks" in video games. Some people will find this novel and love it and some people won't. Different strokes I guess.

Don't be mad.
Who can tell me, that they dont change their gamerules once the game went live ?
Trion/XL gave us a superb game in the alpha only to completely change it short before launch.
Now all trust in all MMORPG companies is gone - puff'd.
Every company will ruin its own reputation for the $$$.
They are evil greedy bastards that have absolutely no interest in giving you a game that you can enjoy.
They just give you a result of psychological commerce studies and research mass milking on us.
We are the sheep.
Sheep under the impression of having a great time in a great game.
Its just an illusion ...

apparently have only seen the "serious" vids
thought this game (or developers, whatever) was going to take itself seriously - I guess not
and no collision detection - running through horses and NPCs and assuming other players - no thanks
looks purdy though
