In response to player requests, ArenaNet has announced that a brand new camera system is coming into Guild Wars 2 on March 10th. Included in the new feature is the much-requested first person view, a field of view slider to widen the visible playing field, a position slider to place the camera in any given player's "sweet spot", and a height camera that will focus on an opponent's head regardless of size.
ArenaNet will reveal details about the new camera system and give players their first glimpse of how it works in the game on the studio’s “Ready Up” livestream hosted by Josh Davis. The livestream is scheduled to take place at 12 p.m. PST tomorrow, February 27, on the official Guild Wars 2 Twitch channel. Immediately following “Ready Up,” more details about the system will be outlined in a blog post published on the Guild Wars 2 web site.

I doubt they'd go to the trouble to make first person combat viable. It will likely be more like the original Guild Wars in that it's just for looking at things.
Which I'm okay with, personally.

And here I was hoping for true mouselook without pressing down the rmb or using Immersive Combat Mod.
Instead... just a bunch of useless features.
It was requested for Norn in JPs mostly I think.
Try the JP Troll's End on a maximum size Norn - you have to zoom in for some of the jumps in the narrow cave and your character will block most of your view.
*edit*
Adding a screenshot to show what I mean - there is a rock right in front of me and I need to do a well aimed leap to reach it but the current camera is far from being helpful:

The Collision Sensitivity settings and FOV adjustments should help greatly for those suffering motion sickness from the way the camera will bounce around on its own or the terrible ping-pong zoom when you get near an object or wall. While they should have fixed this before launch (I was complaining about this back in the public beta of the game, as were others) it is most welcome to finally have this, hopefully, taken care of.
And the other features are great too, for people that want screenshots, etc. Good stuff!

If you remember Mike Tyson boxing you are old.
Actually, some people were becoming ill from motion sickness. It may be more than just fluff, it may be a way of helping to eliminate chunkage.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
Here's to hoping this will fix the camera situation with Charr!
I am so extremely happy to hear this. I have been wanting the ability to use first person since beta. Thank you Anet. Now we just need to work on the ability to remove things like the minimap, skillsbar and quest tracker while still leaving the health bar and adrenaline up.
Thanks!!!!
All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.
I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.
I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.
I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.
A lot of you are missing the point for 1st person view. Do you actually use it in WoW for combat? Of course not, but it's still used for other purposes.
Also, i disagree about the camera being fine. The current camera is placed down towards the torso, when it should be above the shoulders or near it. This isn't a standard viewpoint in most games, and it needed to be changed.
