Originally posted by will75 The word "Lobby game" is considered offensive to most of the people who are very much supporters unconditionally of Crowfall. Why? Because a world that resets itself, like a battleground in WoW, A world you can freely switch between, let's say you're getting owned in the "dregs" hilarious that it's so close the word "dreds" isn't it? Anyway, you shouldn't be able to join another "campaign" by simply going back to your "EK" .Now maybe they won't allow that, we'll see. In fact, i know they can't.People would level up in the carebear world and then go on the dregs. So essentially they are "servers" that reset , the videos say 1,2, and 3 months. I've never read longer than that. In my opinion a server that resets at 1,2,3 month intervals is essentially guild wars 2's "pvp" style, and we know how well that turned out.
I'm not a supporter of Crowfall, but if there is one world that resets itself constantly, it is the world of WoW.
- Kill "ogre captain", resets 2 minutes later
- Followed by wolf, resets to its "roaming spot" after 10s chasing you
- Kill NPC, resets 2 minutes later
- Complete dungeon, press button to reset it
Did you really think WoW world did not reset itself? The only difference is: in WoW, every action resets itself at a micro level. In Crowfall, your actions are impactful, but the world resets itself now and then at a macro level.
True persistence doesn't really exist in MMORPGs. In fact, as I understand, Crowfall wants to introduce this "world" persistence (that I will repeat WoW does not have!) by allowing people to have a lasting impact on the temporary game world.
Arguably, each "lobby" as you want to call them is more persistent than the entire WoW game is (except for a few events such as AhnQiraj).
Wow and pvp shouldn't ever be uttered in the same sentence, you cannot compare it. Darkfall? Sure, DAOC? Sure, But Wow? That's like saying having a highly rated arena team makes you a pro pvp'er... Wow is for retards, you can quote me on that, vanilla wow before "BG'S" maybe you could speak about pvp. You know the whole Southshore vs TM stuff? That's only time, after that it went to crap and is worthless, i made high warlord rank 14, and also on another ranked to 13, worst things i ever could of done. Because wow is horrible and it's all about time sinks and afk'n in Bg's, definitely not pvp
How people think this is a lobby game makes me laugh. Just the worlds live 1-3 months and are huge continents not little zones. With one world static as this is where your guild/player housing is.
Lol at the very least it's funny how trying to convince others you actually describe a lobby lmfao.
this game is the next everything. it will contain all cool things people want and won't get diluted. its the next Wow/Daoc/GW and takes the best of those games BUT is not similar to them at all!
let the hyping begin!

Finally a solution to the age-old problem of allowing players to have a permanent impact on the game world...
In Crowfall, players are allowed to make a lasting impression on the game world, because the game world itself is temporary
Simple and elegant.
The part of the game world that players can build and change, the Eternal Kingdoms, is permanent. You know that, right?
Right?
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein "Graphics are often supplied by Engines that (some) MMORPG's are built in" - Spuffyre

your homeworld is the lobby. then you click a button and magically appear in a battle arena. how is it not a lobby game?
Because the homeworld (personal Kingdom) is "like a Minecraft realm – it’s a world that you own, that other players can come and visit (if you let them.) You control the administration of your Kingdom. That means you can invite player in, kick them out, grant them land, charge them taxes, set the import/export rules and turn on and off player-versus-player combat." (link)

I don't really think anybody truly cares about Eternal Kingdoms, they are just glorified guild halls people will hang out at if there's nothing else to do. With multiple characters and multiple campaigns going about at the same time, I think EKs will be abandoned for most of the time.
You do understand that his whole point was that typically MMORPGs do not allow their players to make actions that permamently do something to the world, for example if there's a bad ass dragon up in the mountains, in your typical game if you kill it, it respawns max 2 weeks later, typically 2 hours later. In Crowfall, players can find the corpse of the bad ass dragon until the campaign ends. Why? Because the world can be permanent for the duration of the campaign. You blow up a castle, fine, it stays blown up. The whole point is that you can make permanent decisions in the world because the world is temporary by itself.

No. that badass dragon will still respawn. Camapign is just like any other zone in MMOs. Its just that zone as a whole has limited duration.

Yeah, the only reason I dropped 500 bucks in spare change on this Kickstarter was for the Eternal Kingdom prospects. I've always wanted to carve my own slice of land in a permanent world, have a keep or something I can slap my name on... "Castle Sootfoot" or something...And maybe have a little cabin in the woods to retreat to when bored.
Even moreso I've always wanted a massive persistent world with many buildings that have interiors, that you could just walk up to and purchase for your use. Maybe use it as a home, a store, or even a guild house!

1. I'm fairly sure that League of Legends gets a whole lot more hype when it comes to lobby pvp games.
2. I don't really agree with calling CF a lobby game, but i guess that's subjective. Just about every MMO out there can be called a lobby game if one looks at it a certain way. I mean, EVE is a lobby game - you stay in your (Station) lobby then you fly out to a system where something is going on and then come back to your lobby (station) with the goodies. EQ2 that i play can be called a lobby game, because i sit in my (guild hall) lobby then go to a combat zone, do some stuff and come back to the (guild hall) lobby. Same logic can be applied to just about any MMO out there.
When you stretch the definition of "lobby game" so far as to include everything, it stops being meaningful, so what is really the point of doing that?

I think you're underselling it. Remember SWG? Didn't that game have many large planets to explore? It's really no different than having an MMORPG with 1 set of main worlds (I assume eternal kingdom will have multiple) and a 2nd set of fully destructable worlds. Seriously. All the right baseline RPG elements are in the game.
What they are lacking right now is "downtime" RPG mechanics that I've not seen yet. Reason to sit inside a tavern and socialize? Perhaps the EVE style leveling will promote this.

You'll also be able to hand out parcels of land, tax commerce in your lands and basically rule over your personal, persistent slice of the game world. I would be surprised if there weren't several that became gladiator pits or event arenas, preferably with some wagering going on.

Since some of the commenter haven't read up about the game, i'll shed some light on the questions or misconceptions:
1. "Which part makes it similar to a strategy game?"
- well, it's about resource collection and asset building for sake of territory control in a hostile competitive environment. This is similar to strategy games such as Warcraft, starcraft, c&c and others.
2. "It's like WoW".
Considering that Crowfall has little to no meaningful PVE content, that eliminates about 90 percent of potential similarities with WoW. It also doesn't have 2 faction Pvp, so that's another 5 percent. It does have a cartoonish art style, so that part is definitely a similarity.
3. "It is/isn't like Game of Thrones meets EVE".
Well, I don't think we'll be seeing alliances through marriage much, so I think it's a far cry from Got. It will have important alliances and betrayals and spying and so on, but I think it'll defnintely be closer to the type of stuff you see in EVE online rather than GoT.
