Victor discusses Eorzea’s Triple Triad card game. Is it just as you remember it from FFVIII?

Title was all I read, if its a Harthstone wana be it makes me smile. Seems everyone is making one and who can blame them with all the money Blizzard is making lol

    It's nothing like hearthstone.

I quit so I can't speak to the imported product....but if it's JUST like ff8's triple triad I likely wouldn't play it anyway.  I have always thought that FF9's Tetra master was WAY better.

Triple triad had too many "I win" cards.

It's fun but nowhere near the depth of something like hearthstone. In glad it's in the game though and it adds to the overall breadth of the game.

Cannot really compair this to hearthstone at all. And you should not.

You are more or less compairing a full fledge online card game to a minigame of an old ps1 title.

Good thing in the FF world this was probably the most loved minigame they had  in any of the Final Fantasies. The way they brought it into XIV was done very well.

As for XIV copying Blizzard, that is a just as absurd as compairing this to hearthstone. Triad was a mini game that came out in Feb of 1999, which unless I am ready bad at telling time predates Hearthstone by a 1 and a half decades.

If anyone wants to say SE copied something, need to talk about Chocobo racing which is a copy paste of Mario Cart.

All in all it and the rest of the Golden Saucer are a great add to the FFXIV world. It is nice to see mini games that take you away from the endless instance spam.

Triple Triad was out waaaaaaaaay before WoW was even launched. It was a mini game in Final Fantasy VIII that released in 1999.

Its more improved than the FFVIII version. With some of the rules you can win with the starter deck. I like it better than I did when I played it on FFVIII

Oh dear god, I do hope you're trolling. Triple Triad was a mini game from Final Fantasy 8 which was in 1999, WoW as a game came out I believe about 2003/4 ish. So that was a whole 4 to 5 years before there was even a "World of Warcraft".

Not to mention Tetra Master which was equally as good came out with Final Fantasy 9 in 2000. Not to mention that this game was also available to play through the PlayOnline service when Final Fantasy 11 debutted which was 2003. So, to say its a Hearthstone wannabe is a plain joke and ignorant on your behalf.

You are right on all accounts, the main difference that people are forgotting is that this is a mini-game in an MMO, something fans wanted. It is not a stand-alone product, it doesn't need to compete with Hearthstone. But, it does get more people interested in FF14 which is growing in leaps and bounds presently.

Been too busy trying to finish up the last step of the relic that I haven't even given this a real look yet.  That and I'm more interested in the chocobo racing.  People in my guild seem to be all over this right now though.

    [mod edit]

This card game was in FFXIII, way before your dear Blizzard ever thought of making a card game.

Its one of the feature that was asked about the most by the fan.

    [mod edit]

FFXIII or FFVIII? i didnt play 8 enough to see it there but i dont remember it in 13. Maybe it was in both, idk.

I just love the fact that it is in-game. So my character is at golden saucer paying this mini card game and collecting cards. It just adds to the immersion and I geek out on stuff like that.

If you do not know enough about this franchise you should not make statements about it copying Blizzard. You should educate yourself on Final Fantasy series. It is an old series that was played on Play station and there are mini games that existed there and I started playing a long time ago when my son was still little. I still remember the fun I have had with this franchise and things like this really make me smile.

fun game , but getting cards can be a bit grindy (some are drop from mobs , for example garuda ifrit , leviathan titan ect ....)

    Hey folks.

Sorry! I mentioned a 9x9 grid. That should be 3x3 grid for 9 slots total. My bad!

I guess Blizzard invented the internet also. No seriously this was in FF8. Long before anyone knew what  World of Warcraft even was.  There were also other online card games before Hearthstone came about but i guess none of those matter cause blizzard obviously invented everything first and everyone else is just a copy cat!!!!! AHHHHH!

So, I'm not playing FFXIV, and Triple Triad doesn't really interest me personally... but it's cool that they got it in finally. I know a lot of people were looking forward to it.

That said, I'm having a hell of a laugh at people implying Triple Triad is a Hearthstone copy...

    Too funny.

  • DAOWAceDAOWAce Member UncommonPosts: 436

If only they had a F2P mode that let us play minigames instead of accessing the actual game's MMORPG content.

I'd play the hell out of this.

Too bad I didn't buy the game since it became terrible compared to its original version, so I can't login for this event.

This card game is quite addictive. Very clever of them to add it.

This game within a game is the most addicting thing.
