The Star Trek Online team has posted a lengthy developer blog about how Sector Space is being overhauled to make it a more seamless journey through space without invisible walls and dead ends to hang players up.
One of the best pieces of news for players and fans of the entire Star Trek IP is the realignment of sectors to place them in the correct locations based on existing Star Trek lore. Cryptic acknowledges that over time several key sectors had been placed outside the norm.
Utilizing Star Trek: Star Charts, a well-documented and organized map of sector space, the team realigned the game's sectors to correspond. However, some sectors on the Star Charts map lie outside what is considered "playable space" in STO (namely Ferenginar, Iconia, Romulus, Boreth and others). As a result, these sectors were "nudged" into the closest available space on the game map to place them as close as possible to their true location according to Star Charts.
Lastly with regard to the sector map, Tellar, Trill, Betazed sectors have been added as Cryptic considered them too important to leave out and will utilize these locations for future content.
The map's underlying grid system is also receiving some attention and will feature a more uniform appearance rather than utilizing a color scheme depending on faction space being traversed. Each major grid line will represent one light year of travel. Much of the clutter of the sector space map is also being removed and, in fact, will be "toggle-able" so that those who wish to can simply fly through the blackness of space.

Is space combat still go in circles, so that no one side of your shield takes too much damage, and shoot.
That shit was horrible. One of the most unfun combat mechanics I have ever played. If they fix that, I might think about trying it again.

I'm sorry. I don't have time to explore the rest of the galaxy.
My time is spent grinding , grinding and (wait for it) grinding...
STO is the never-ending grindfest MMO. When this is added, mark my words, there will be some type of grind associated with it...
I have played STO on and off for 5 years now and through the years have dealt with frustration and elation based on what the devs at Craptic have done or not done. I understand that CBS has final say in what comes into the game but seriously.
I have seen the Video from Tribble and the Stars as you approach are tiny then all of a sudden you are blinded by a huge ball of light and have to go above it.. its annoying at best...
Also they have the star systems around the Stars, but seriously you can access only a few of the planets through out the sectors.. if one star has 9 planets all you can do is enter one of the planets.. you cannot access the system and explore the whole star system.. that would have been awesome.
I do like how they have limited the loading screens though.. been asking Craptic to fix the sectors for years and they finally did it... now if only they would fix the rubber banding issues that so many players have complained about since the release...
One thing I would have liked to have seen is an overhaul of the reputation systems... Dyson Sphere is a fast grind fest of Dyson Sphere marks, however if you have to run STFs for the Borg you will fall asleep waiting for queues...
Just today in 2 hours
Dyson Sphere: 750 marks
Another two hours
Omega Force: 90 marks
They need an over haul of the STFS at least or make more zones that are similar to the Dyson Sphere for us players who want to level reputations and have to die of boredom and eventually log out to try another day....
Played: UO, LotR, WoW, SWG, DDO, AoC, EVE, Warhammer, TF2, EQ2, SWTOR, TSW, CSS, KF, L4D, AoW, WoT
Playing: The Secret World until Citadel of Sorcery goes into Alpha testing.
Tired of: Linear quest games, dailies, and dumbed down games
Anticipating:Citadel of Sorcery
That's because the revamped SS you experienced was just the first pass. There was a recent update, as well as another on the way that will add better textures to planets and stars.
