Isn't it time to say goodbye to some of the mmorpg's that haven't made it up to 8.0? Some of the games simply don't belong with the amazing top 10. What tremendous strides the mmorpg has made within the last 5 years.
Should a new rating system be considered?

The top ranked games are good for most of the population, but there will never be a perfect MMORPG. But, the lower ranked games still have people that like that game better than the higher ranked games.
Carebear
*WoW = Level 60 Priest*
*EQ2 = Level 25 Druid*
I've played many good mmos with ratings in the 5's and 6's. the rating system is just based on graphics anyway.
I say we let go of everything under 6.1 because Furcadia is ranked 6.1
If someone has more specific tastes than then.... well...... sorry.
But 8.0? That's just insane. There are some pretty good games under 8. This is MMORPG.com not, Blizzard.com or SOE.com
Go play a few under 8.0 and you will see, Specificly:
Ashen Empires
Hostile Space
Monster & Me
Runescape (personally I HATE that game, but it has a HUGE player base... or at least it used to)
I mean Jeeze man. Even Lineage II and MXO are under 8.0. (they both suck, but ALOT of money was put into both of them & at least L2 has a pretty big player base)
And wtf do you define as amazing games anyway?
EVE - Possibly
GW - Not even an MMO, no comment
WoW - Possibly because of the huge number of players... but the game itself if far from amazing
CoH - LoL?
DoAC - Possibly
EQII - Possibly if you're a carebear
FFXI - A chunk of crap w/ FF style graphix thrown on it
AO - Ok, this one can be considered "amazing" Kinda sucks now and I never really played it, but it help define the genre for the better
AMAZING MMOS Would be:
Ultima Online
EQ1 - Ruined MMOs (hey, that's amazing isn't it?)
A Tale In the Desert - for uniqness
A Work in Progress.

It seems like the majority of games are around the 7 mark, so I don't exactly see the point in letting for games lower than that. Besides, it seems like the entire point of this site is to be dedicated to MMO's, not the 5 most popular MMO's in history. I like the idea of there being a list of MMO's that can appeal to the different tastes of people as well as appeal to the different wallet sizes of people.
That said, I think the rating system on the site is horrible for some reason. Like I said, most games seem to be around the 7 mark. I think if you want a trust-worthy score, find your local games magazine with a review. Or just head down to IGN or Gamespy.
I have to agree witht he above post though. If you want a game that's actually different from most MMO's, play Ultima Online. It's got some horribly inflated economy issues, but probably the best MMO out there, in my opinion. Provided you can get past 2D graphics. (Unless you play the 3D version, which was pretty crappy when I played it. 3D people and 2D background.) The 2D graphics are pretty good as well. One of the few games you can tell a person by what their wearing.
The list is pretty dead on in my opinion. The most polished and refined MMO's are at the top. The exact order is a bit scewed because the users on this site are hardcore so games like Eve and SoR wind up high on the list even though they aren't the most played.
The Game List is very helpful, despite of the rating or rating participation. It's a good place to start for a new MMORPG to play.
It goes without saying that just because a game has a high or low rating, it doesn't mean you will like it or not. Everyone has their taste on what a good MMORPG is.
Currently playing:
* City of Heroes: Deggial, Assault Rifle/Devices Blaster. Server: Defiant.
* City of Villains: Snakeroot, Plant/Thorns Dominator. Server: Defiant.
These aren't ever complete products though are they? What if a high rated game gets a patch of doom, *cough*SWG*cough* and conversely what if a lower rated game actually makes improvements. I do admit the game list is getting ever longer and maybe it needs a filter, e.g. show games rated x higher and you type in the x or something, show only Fantasy/sci-fi/historical/etc games, show games published in the last 3 years, show games in beta-testing, maybe even add in a column for cost of monthly fees.
AHHH!!!
Those ratings are just based on IP-bot voters anyways. Eve online? I mean come on.
Actually I'd like to see MMORPG keep a list of all the MMO games regardless of their rating. Call me crazy, but ratings haven't meant anything to me in a long time. Assigning a number to an entirely subjective experience based on your own personal biases, and preferences without explaining them in full isn't exactly a good system to determine what is the best. Hell neither is popularity for that matter. The top ten most downloaded songs on iTunes almost invariably suck.
When people will pay others to play a game for them it might be a sign the game isn't all that fun.
Man I need to go invest in some tin-foil companies, I'd make a killing off of you.
Yo are aware that in order to vote you have to have been a member of MMORPG for awhile and to have had some forum posts right?
I hate to burst your bubble, but MMORPG.COM is not the end all in game ratings.
nuff said.

It's just me, so open the door.
The rating system is flawed anyway. Sorry but I just don't value sound for instance with the same weight I value fun but they are worth the same under this system.

You are aware that you are wrong, right? Ive been going to this site for quite awhile but just registered a few days, I could rate/vote games within the 1st 10 minutes of being a member, and with 0 forum post.
Back on topic, getting rid of all the games with a raiting lower than 8.0 is absurd. Most of the best games out there are the ones hardly spoken of. A few days ago Lineage 2 had a massive content addition that is roughly 1/3 the size of the total game, and ive heard and read nothing but great things about it, and the game is getting better and better with each Cronicle, but the game is only a 7.5 last time I checked. I havnt personally played the game (but I would love to try it), I am aware that the game is a bit of a grind and all, but what game isnt?
The raiting system is flawed anyways like a few people have stated before me, I will admit right here in the post that I am one of the people who make it flawed, the only reason I registered was to give WoW a score of 1 in every category just because im tired of seeing it up top, its the most overrated game of the 8.0's...in my opinion of course. Was what I did stupid? Lol hell yea it was stupid, but the point is it is flawed for that same reason, im not the only person doing that dumb shit, which explains why EVE is a 8.4 and games like CoH/V , EQ2, and Lineage 2 are 8.1, 8.0 and below. Im by no way shape or form saying Lineage 2 is a better game than EVE, and im not saying EVE is a better game than the others, it just all comes down to peoples opinions. Like somebody said before me in this thread, it just comes down to personal prefrence.
