so far, i dont see it. this is not interesting in the least
Unless your a builder/explorer ya this game is not for you.
i tried it. tried to get into it. just got boring. guess im just too old. lol
May want to stick your head in again after the patch, things have changed a lot.
Nah nothing about being old lol, it just this game takes building to a level some won't enjoy.
For example, me an my mate played Minecraft and loved building shit, I saw this game when they launched the betas, told him about it and showed him vids. He said it wasn't for him, i ask why? And he said, "it's too much detail. In Minecraft you can slap a few blocks together, build something and make it look good pretty easily, but with this, to make something look good you have to put so many hours into it and put so much attention into detail. It's takes the creativity past a point where it's not enjoyable for me"
Which i understood completely, because in anything creative there is a point it can get to where unless you truly love it doing it, you won't enjoy it. This is something a lot of people never thought about when jumping in the beta.
This x 1,000
You find this with modding as well. People start and realize "oh wait, this is a commitment".
Anything in creative fields is like this. People like the idea of creating, expressing themselves, the coolness factor, the "star" factor but then realize that to be good it takes devotion, sweat, dedication ...

Then came micro voxels. There was a thread made in alpha saying "micro voxel will kill the game". Regular players left and only true 3d artist remained.
Yep. If they had just worked on the building tools longer and took time to make shape tools then micro voxels wouldnt even matter. They are lazy no ifs ands or buts about it. They went as far as to get the community to make shapes for starter templates which is cool but the problem is that the template window is horrible and sluggish to boot and placing them so you can copy just makes your claim look pathetic.
Another problem is that Landmark seems to have only 1 grid for voxels which makes it a real pain for anyone that doesnt want to spend tons of time building. It also means building and placing your own voxel made props is a big pain in the rear.
To much fundamentally wrong with the game. It needs to be canceled.
Eh, I stopped after I didnt log in for a few days and poof my claim was gone. Checked in again when caves/combat went in and the game is a ghost-town.
What happens when you log off your characters????.....

More like short road off a shorter bridge.
This is Everquest: Next. They use Landmark as the test servers. They ahve nothing in EQ:Next that is not in Landmark. If you think EQ: Next is more advanced you are delusional. They add stuff to Landmark first, because that is all they have.
You can't seriously think they are building Everquest Next with the tools they gave us in Landmark.....and I don't really expect much to come of either of the games really.

Honestly, I just don't even see the tools as the problem. It's not like those tools/shapes don't exist in Voxelfarm, Sony just didn't pony up the money for the additional modules thus Landmark doesn't have them. Hell you can go watch Voxelfarm videos right now and see far more advanced shapes and tools that are available if you are willing to pay for them. I know guys like you already know this, I'm just throwing it out there for those who never really followed the games development.
No.. Landmark could have all those great building tools and such and the game would still suffer from what at least caused myself and my buddies to quit which comes down to what another poster perfectly described as this "building" games problem. Everything you build is nothing more than a "pretty screenshot" and that's it. Nothing DOES anything, it's dull.
Take a game like Feed the Beast Minecraft or Space Engineers. In minecraft I can use my imagination to build things that actually DO something. I can spend a month building a huge power plant that others on the server can actually take advantage of and use for their own builds power needs. The guy who builds some huge elaborate train system that actually gathers resources and drops them off at someone else's large automated storage facility that the servers players take advantage of. The possibilities are near limitless. Hell even a totally unmodded Minecraft still smokes anything we could do in Landmark.
Space Engineers? Yeah so on my server we have a guy whose spent a crap ton of time building various machines that make other players lives easier. Drillers, repair ships, grinders, multi-function ships. Another guy built an awesome "grinding" platform that everyone uses to quickly tear down captured npc ships. I personally took care of building some ridiculous warship that others sometimes use to go easily take down pirates/npc ships. I just watched a video of some dude who made a friggin railgun that actually fires working missiles..I didn't even think that was possible.
Landmark? I spent about a month building some really cool looking warship kind of thing, watched a bunch of microvoxel videos so I could make it look awesome. Know what it did? It sat on some hill doing nothing...people would come by and say "wow cool man looks great" and then they leave and never have a reason to return.
They had a lot of lofty ideas and hype that sold us on founders packs. Stuff like one day building working dungeons that people would adventure in and other such things. I quickly realized in alpha when we saw how slow development was actually coming and the direction it was going that type of stuff would probably never see the light of day. The idea that Landmark was somehow the "test bed" for Next was always laughable and I can't honestly see how people to this day believe that. Hell we had game play footage of Next showing things Landmark still doesn't have today long before we even went into Landmarks alpha...some test bed..
No, SOE got the idea of taking two of the biggest independent success stories (Minecraft, Dayz) and throwing some AAA money and resources at them and creating something awesome. At least IMO Landmark fell badly, we'll see how things turn out with H1Z1.
