Whats with newegg shipping ?

delete5230delete5230 Member EpicPosts: 7,081

Before I even ordered my RAM from Newegg.com EVERY computer geek at work told me there shipping really sucks anymore.

Well it's not entirely late, but not near as fast as it was.  Now I didn't get my RAM yet....so the issue can get worst !

Anyone else notice this yet, or is it me being impatient ?

I have never had any issues with them, shipping or otherwise.

Plus you do realize that the eastern half of the US has been hit with ice / snow storm week after week for the past month right? This causes problems and slowdown with any freight or shipments.

My company uses UPS & Freight daily. They are still backed up from last week.

More goes into shipping than people realize. Most of the time it is the carrier not the vendor that causes delay. I can get something to UPS today, if it gets to you next week does that mean my shipping sucks? or that UPS got delayed.

I was actually more surprise when newegg shipped my power supply on monday and it delivered the next day. Course I went free shipping. Newegg shipping never let me down though.

They're still pretty quick for me too, but more and more I keep seeing feedback like the OP about their shipping and customer service. I don't know if they're slowly slipping with individual customers in favor of supplying big contracts, but there is a feeling of newegg not being the newegg that rose to geeky fame for it's exemplary service, pricing, and shipping.

I ordered a mouse from them once that was supposed to have these extras like a carrying case included. But the extras never showed up and the mouse didn't work. I told those things to the representative over their chat program. But when I sent back everything they sent me, they initially refused to give me a refund because those extras were missing. I had to call back and tell them (again) those items weren't sent and I can't send back what I never received in the first place. Fortunately since I used their chat they had a log and confirmed that's what I told their help desk operator. (Their operator screwed up and left out the part about the missing items.)

I'm not sure if I can trust newegg again over this. I found the exact same mouse for less and it was working at a Best Buy of all places.

I've only had problems with hard drives from Newegg.  I've ordered about 6 hard drives and only two have ever arrived functional.  One of those crashed within a year.  One I RMA'ed three times before I finally asked them to give me my money back.  In contrast, I started buying the same brand and model HDs from a local store for a bit more and all have been functional and none have crashed going on four years now.  I'm not sure what Newegg's problem with HDs was/is but I just stopped getting my HDs through them.

Not to white knight newegg by any means

I had a similar experience. I recently placed another order of 6 HDs through them, HDs now come individually boxed with an aircushion packaging that protects them pretty well. It certainly beats when they used to just wrap them in bubble wrap once and chuck them in the box with everything else.

Really it just depends on which of their warehouses it's coming from.  I live in Arizona, and if something ships from their Cailfornia warehouse I can have the item within a couple of days usually.  If it's coming from the Midwest or east coast it's going to take 3-5 business days to get here.  With the weather conditions as they are on the east cost right now, anything coming out of there is probably going to be delayed.

In other words, poor initial packaging by NewEgg and typical very rough handling by the shipping company caused hard drives to be damaged after they left NewEgg's hands. It wasn't the hard drives being defective but the packaging and handling.

It is up to the shipper to protect their product for the typical shipping conditions.

The weather across the US has messed up a lot of shipping, especially with companies that do not have distribution centers all over the place. My little brother sent me a small, .5 lbs package a few weeks ago from Colorado. In the summer time it would take maybe 3-4 days to get to me. In the winter takes 2 weeks sometimes.

Generally, from your recent posts, I would suggest you are an impatient type.   No problems with newegg for me.  Then again, I plan ahead. ;)

Yup - that's what I suspect. I also suspect that after however many hard drives got Returned/RMAed back through Newegg as DOA or early failures, the suppliers "asked" them to change their shipping methods for OEM/bare drives.

I can't confirm any of that though.

This is a big factor.  New Egg has warehouses in California, Tennessee, and New Jersey.  If you happen to live near one of them and your item gets shipped from that warehouse, you might well get it the day after you placed the order.  If they have to ship it across the country, that takes longer unless you pay extra for fast shipping.  New Egg usually gets stuff out of their warehouses pretty quickly, but UPS's cheapest shipping isn't one-day unless you're close by.
