We recently asked you all about what kind of MMO videos you like to watch, and this week’s TGN column is piggybacking on that as well. This time, we want to know: do you prefer videos with player commentary or videos where we get out of the way and just let you watch?

Some commentary would be my preference. It doesn't have to be non-stop. Heck, I'll sometimes watch game play videos in another language (which I don't speak or understand) if there aren't any decent English ones, as I can often get the gist of some things as well as tell from the tone if they are enjoying the game.
Commentary as in nonstop yapping and trying too hard to be funny? Or commentary as in here is what I am doing in the game right now and why?
Where is the added value in a gameplay video without commentary ? Lots of them can be found.
The commentary of course has to be worth it. Be it that it is funny/entertaining, informative or best, all of it.
The thing I dislike the most is if people completely mute the game sound and instead play some <fill in any bad music choice here>.
If its RipperX or TheHiveLeader. I'll take commentary.
hell. I like commentary in general. Just no bad music. Please.
In a review, commentary helps to understand the game. Commentary is an art form, and some are way better than others, but generally any commentary is better than none.
-A good commentary should not steal the focus, only support what happens in the video with opinions, explanations, examples, etc.
-A good commentary should know to shut up, give the viewer pauses to just watch and take it all in.
-A good commentary should have opinions because it makes you human and interesting to listen and reflect on what is being said. Attitude however just makes you annoying.
-A good commentary should skip the small details and explain the bigger picture.
"First Impression" videos are lost on me; by the time I watch a video about something, I already have my first impressions. At that time I don't want to watch an explanation of the obvious, but a more in dept explanation. Also, reviews involving playing the tutorial of a game or watching the trailer is pointless to me, it doesn't explain what the game is about.. I want to see the real game. Maybe its just me

If the videos are made by HiveLeader, hell yes I want commentary
if they are made by ReaperX, hell no I don't want a commentary. Sorry ReaperX.
With. I don't have a problem with no commentary but if I had to pick one I'd take commentary. Games are interactive experiences, and you can't get that from just watching gameplay. Do the actions feel right? Is the game responsive? This is information that the player has to tell you about if you can't experience it first hand.
Also if you can find someone who's opinions on games tend to match your own you can get an idea as to whether you'll like a game or not, depending on the commentators verdict/review/observations.
Hive Leader doesn't make me laugh, his act is very old and never changes.
I would always prefer commentary, however i also want it to be professional like and not cutesy or trying to be funny. If i want comedy i'll spark up Russell Peter's.
I had a choice i would prefer Angry Joe,he gets right to the point of the actual game play ideas that matter. You watch an Angry Joe review you come away knowing a LOT about the game.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Without.
Most of the commentary i have heard consists of people who have no idea of what they are doing. They talk non stop so you can't hear what is going on in the game, every other word is F*** this or that, or they think they have to yell in their mike to make a point.
Angry Joe's commentary for what the game is and functions from a gamer perspective and Total Biscuit's commentary for capturing what the game wants to be, and if it does likely have the odds to be such as it claims.
Both Gamers/Commentators complement each other, so well, that if they both agree on a game, it's most likely it will be a very good one for a lot of gamers in the mainstream.
Needless to say that both ReaperX and HiveLeader, likewise are very good. I would take some more gameplaywise content from ReaperX into Hive's portfolio, and vice versa, more of Hive's comic analogies into ReaperX's, to balance a mainstream course for MMORPG.
