ArenaNet has posted a new blog to let Guild Wars 2 players know that the World vs World map component required to complete the "World Completion" achievement has been removed. The next time players log into the game, the updated totals will be reconfigured to accurately reflect the change.
In other WvW news, the Guild Wars 2 team will be on hand this Saturday, March 14th at 8:00 a.m. Pacific / 11:00 a.m. Eastern to show off some of the WvW action in the upcoming Heart of Thorns expansion. You can join the EGX Twitch stream to see more.

A good call - I have the wvw maps completed on several chars but only because I wanted the world map completion and made use of the color rotation.
Completing the wvw maps just wasn't fun.

Seriously, it's been nearly 3 years and now of all times do they decide to remove a core feature of completion. The whole point of including that in Map Completion was that of making a Legendary weapon encompass all aspects of the game. For crying out loud, you have to make a Gift with 500 BoH in order to even craft the thing anyways, so WvW is still a must. Moving your booty across a few maps wasn't much of a deterrent against that.
This is A.Net being pushed back behind their own line. Over 2 years they have explained that it is a long-term goal and you'll get it "eventually", even if not directly up front. They haven't budged on having it be required ...until now. Why? Why are they making such concessions to making drastic changes to firm stances on the game? I fear what the future might bring if any more of these things knee-jerk away.
As someone who did complete a legendary, I've got to say that it was a bad implementation in the first place. Tying a requirement of map completion to a largely stagnant pvp setting was poor practice.
Eternal Battlegrounds is a huge barrier to completion - and not because of Stonemist, which tends to flip on a semi-regular basis. It's the far-in keeps that tend to be pretty rare captures, especially on tier 1 servers like my own Blackgate. One can play for hours on end and not see these even attempted, much less taken. Because of this, the only way to reliably get these tends to be when your server flips to that color. To put this in perspective, Blackgate hasn't been blue in quite a few weeks - we're always either green, winning when the other servers play legitimately, or red, when Jade Quarry and Tarnished Coast have had enough and decide to work together against us.
At any rate, the whole map completion system needs to be looked at. WvW was a stupid inclusion, especially considering that the Mists aren't even considered to be a part of Tyria, meanwhile Southsun and all maps after it are not factored into completion for entirely arbitrary reasons.
All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.
I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

Anet making gameplay for the PVE player even easier? Shocking!
rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar
Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D
I didn't even know it was a requirement so I knocked out the world map only to discover I was something like 6% short. I hit the forums to see what the problem was and found many a long thread on how world mapping should not be part of PvP in order to complete.
The main problem was a server that was not strong on WvW would never unlock some strongholds. There were players who said they were stuck at 1% for over a year because some POI's or Vistas had never been conquered. Lucky for me my server was pretty good and had strong guilds that would go through all (or most of) the points for whoever wanted to come along so it only took me two rotations and I even did just all the WvW map points on a second character. So if you were on a high rated WvW server it was easy but impossible on the lowest rated servers.
Also, you couldn't do map completion if you guested to a stronger server.

disappointed tbh
maybe they should remove the pve components for the world completion for people who are only interested in WvW only fair right
It makes sense that they want to keep the world completion achievement to the core world of GW2. If they started including all new areas as world completion that means it would be longer to get for those who started playing now vs those who started playing back then.
To me, it doesn't matter at all. It isn't difficult to do, it is just someone you do along the way of playing the game. Depending on how you played the game.
Obviously getting world completion the second, third, or fourth time it can get very tedious.

Except technically WvW is not even part of the "world" - Tyria is a world within The Mists...WvW is a separate area within the mists. This actually makes more sense that is is NOT part of WORLD completion. Shouldn't you PvPvE zerg folk be happy the pure PvE people are not going to clog up your queue's and maps now? Well, except for a few hours a week during the season tournaments... oh and when we go to the bank at a crafting station
Well, yeah.
What they should have done was removing some POIs from the completion is WvW instead, to actually be inside each small tower was rather tedious and pointless (I used a webbpage to see when my side had the last 3 but if you are on a crappy server it will take forever).
Removing the whole thing altogether was far too much, just balancing the POIs so they made more sense would be good enough.
three words. It's about time.
Seriously people have only been asking for that since the game launched almost three years ago! Here's to hoping that this flicker of common sense turns into a forest fire and spreads!
