Looking for a challenge w/ decent population

Getting tired of my current game, just don't feel challenged at any point while playing, and I'm looking for an MMO that offers some decent challenge during combat.  A harsher death penalty wouldn't be horrible either, as it would give me a feeling of having something to lose.

My only other stipulation is that the game has to have a somewhat active community, as I really hate playing alone.  I need people to play with in my MMO's.  The games I've played lately: (ie don't suggest one of these)

GW2

EVE

ESO

DCUO

EQ2

Wildstar

Archage

Rift 

WoW

    Maybe Age of Wushu or Darkfall.  Of course those are more pvp oriented games and not sure what your preferences are.  If you are talking PVE and challenge, then I really think those two things can't be mentioned in the same sentence with a straight face except for maybe TSW.

    I actually enjoy pvp, but it has to have some form of PvE as well.  I used to play darkfall, but the game is a ghost town lately.  So it doesn't really fulfill my one other requirement.  Age of Wushu is tempting, but I'm not sure what kind of population still plays it.  I played it a bit way back when it first released.

    So installed AoW, logged in and was flooded with gold spam & people saying they are quitting the game.  Was so toxic i uninstalled it within like 5 min.

    I guess I might just be done with MMORPG's in general, since they apparently think I am so stupid I can't handle any type of challenge in my games.

    Sounds like MMO's aren't for you.  Which is ok we all can't stick to them forever.

    Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!

    Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!

    Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!
