+50k sold a month, that's pretty good for a niche space game.
So, recently the game has seen the release of wings 1.2, this was so needed for the game as finally we have a grouping system, in addition to that some small amounts of content to keep us going, and sure many people have complained that the game isn't finished, and quite right the game isn't finished, it reminds me of the first year of EvE.
The next update named "PowerPlay" has been said by the dev's to be solely developed content for the game, which will only strengthen the gameplay. In the most recent patch some of the combat ships have been dropped in cost and they have increased the profits made from bounty hunting, smuggling & exploration.
It's a great time to get in Elite if your still on the fence!
The Future of this game is bright!

Trading, I assume?
Scrap that thought and become a combat pilot, of any kind. You'll have a much better experience.
Yeah, I hear that, its a fair shout, something to remember for any game youre looking at !
You pretty much have to play the game with a gamepad or flightstick (ideally a HOTAS setup, but gamepad works great as well if you don't have a flightstick) in order to get the most out of it, mouse and keyboard is an exercise in frustration for many individuals.
The controls themselves are excellent to be honest, but it's very easy to tell a good pilot from a bad one, and usually the bads are rocking a mouse and keyboard. If you were ever a Wing Commander, Privateer or Freelancer fan you need to give this game a fair shake and take the time to learn the basics.
ED is not an easy game that spoon feeds you information, you need to take the initiative yourself if you wish to get the hang of things and progress from a novice to become a decent pilot. This is why the game is niche, like most sandboxes, you get out of it what you put into it - and the average gamer isn't willing to make that effort.
Well this isn't entirely true, I purchased a flight stick, but just found that I wasn't very accurate with it so I went back to the mouse, there are also lots of players that still use a mouse. You are right when you say the control system is excellent, the functionality and key settings are all there for you to personally decide how you would like to fly, the fact that Mouse, Flightstick and controller are all supported is really good.
