The core reason behind this is my background in pnp roleplaying. I am too used to having a character with access to abilities that are 100% rp fluff. I need that stuff. This is a counterpoint in ESO but so far I can live with it. My preference is having abilities around that I may only use once a day if that. I like my utility and today's mmos streamline games WAY too much.
Actually, TSW gets a bit more RP fluff love than a lot of games. Sure, there's all the clothes, but we are pretty consistently getting new emotes, the Albion is a whole RP venue with stage props, etc., plus the RP community is pretty darn active, at least on the RP dimensions (which maybe not so coincidentally is also one of the larger pop servers). The seasonal events tend to hand out a lot of items like the Krampus rockets, and so forth. Not to mention some good RP add-ons and web support from the community.
Probably the only game radio station I used to listen (besides TrekRadio obviously, those guys rocks and not entirely offtopic either, TSW has its decent share of Trek references too).
One more thing -- below are two really good threads to read over if you are just getting started. Lots of good things to clarify -- TSW is actually quite different from many other MMOs, though there are certainly similarities as well:
Why did I ever leave? Oh yeah, someone offered me sick money for my account and I needed it at the time.
I played TSW from the day it came out but left long before Tokyo... long before. I played a few titles since, most recently ESO and AA and on a day of boredom tried TSW again. It may not be perfect, but I fell in love again and I'm still on the old content, haven't gotten anywhere near the new stuff yet except the scenario in Egypt with the train.. most fun mission in any game I have ever played.
Sole reason I stopped to play is that 1 single button mashing toolbar for active skills. Which in turn brings terribly boring combat.

Hmmm as you play, you are generally encouraged to be switching new abilities into the toolbar slots (the deck) as you get better ones, or try different weapon pairings. You should hop onto the forums for some build advice or join the sanctuary channel for some in-game help.
I like the game too, very good missions. Just some are way hard to figure out. Plus the underworld teleport region is kinda confusing too. I guess im just getting lazy in my old age, to not even want to consult the wiki for a solution to that damn church mission. I just don't want to.
The skill tree is diverse, but I tried to get a good build and looked up a few you tube builds. I guess im just not that into it. soo I quit playing. yea I know
These days being a old gamer, I just want to log on and have instant action and a decent community. That's why all I play and sub to is planeside 2.
Played:SWG(pre NGE/CU sucked)Yep its true, anyone who quit SWG because of the NGE/CU missed out on a much better combat system. DCUO, Fallen Earth, STO, The Secret World. Battlefield series. Planetside 2. Still playing SWG.
Originally posted by TheRealDarkeus In all the years I have played TSW, I have never fully had explained what makes the combat bad for people.
For me it was just the feel of it. I'm not a fan of the combat animations and for some reason the combat in general just feels clunky. It's hard to explain and I can't quite put my finger on it. I love every other aspect of this game - even the ability system - but I just never end up staying around long because of the combat.
I will say that this game has some of the best storyline and creative missions of any mmo I've played. I love that you have to actually think to accomplish the missions. I was one of the ones that bought a life-time sub to the game before it came out, so I get all the DLC etc. for no extra charge. However there is something about the combat that just turns me off from playing the game for long. It's not even the limited ability bar, I can deal with that. It's more the animations I guess.

Hey there -- here's a mod that can help with color blindness in the game. It may not help with everything, but may help:

Also, if you need any help with getting used to the system, hop onto the global sanctuary chat -- lots of helpful players in game:

Priceless.
