That is hard to say, since I am not in Beta myself, but I have heard of this many times before.  There are a couple quick factors that go into this such as number of triangles and FPS.  Usually in the beta stages of a game the FPS will be capped thus limiting how smooth the game looks.  Also a lot of the time devs will up the number of polygons that are rendered just for one screen shot, that is where they get in trouble because in all actuality you will never see that good of rendering while playing and moving throughout the game.  Another thing that might come into play is the programmers have such high hopes for their graphics engine and thus claim it will meet certain standards of rendering and so early screen shots will have a high count of triangles, but when it comes down to going live things have to be cut and tweaking the graphics engine to be as good as they wanted it to be aften falls of the to do list.  But, if a company shows screens shots that are dishonest knowing full well that their engine will never be that good then that is dishonest.  So what you are saying is highly possible and hopefully if what you say is true then it is for honest reasons.

Based upon talking to friends who are in the beta right now, they have told me that the graphics in Horizons are marginally better than Dark Age of Camelot, with the exception of the character movements. They have told me these are a bit clumsy compared to the nice athletic running style, etc. of DAoC characters. Other than that, though they say the graphics are quite nice. Granted, these people are using high-end machines with GeForce 4 or better graphics cards.

We will see...  I hope that is the case but he might be pulling our chain like many other games. higher up its almost assured that it will be force to group. I bet 20 bucks to ANYONE that 1 month after release when people start to be mid to high levels that grouping would be ABSOLUTELY needed. email me at trippyboy46567@hotmail.com if you wanna take that bet.

I have no doubt that grouping will be encouraged...i mean it is an MMORPG afterall. As far as the graphics, i don't really think that the screenshots i've seen have been polished up, i mean they would have really smoothed everything out if they wanted to. Most of them are pretty accurate representations. I can't say much more until probably next week.
