Hero's Journey: Q&A #15 and Screen #37

Today we have the first screenshot of the GUI in Hero's Journey, three pieces of concept art and a new Q&A that reveals how PvP will work in the upcoming MMORPG from Simutronics. Enjoy.

image MMORPG.com: People have been demanding answers about Player vs. Player Combat. Can you elaborate on what your plans are – if any - for this in Hero’s Journey?

Eric Slick: First, the Disclaimer: Our plans for Player vs Player activities in HJ are quite elaborate. Some of it will be available at launch and other parts will be made available with future expansions. What is described here is the intent of the design and may not reflect the actual state of PvP at release. PvP will exist in two basic flavors:

  • Individual, Clan and Guilds
This is PvP that pits participants in duels, games, tournaments and PvP quests. Not only will players be able to challenge other players to duels, Guilds and Clans will be able to challenge other Guilds and Clans to duels. Additionally, individual players, clans and guilds will be able to compete for honors in game tournaments, which they can use for bragging rights or to obtain new benefits. In fact, we want to allow guilds and clans to create their own tournaments and invite other clans and guilds to participate.
  • Factional
There are three main player factions in Hero’s Journey. Factions can conquer territory or compete for political advantages that in turn might help them gain control of the Triumvirate (the ruling political body). When conquering territories, Factions can gain control of strategic resources, which in turn can give their faction certain advantages that can include influencing World Machines, granting of new benefits, items, etc.
When players are not in a PvP world, they may be in one of three states: Opt Out, Standard or Overt. The Opt Out state prevents a player from engaging in or being a target of any PvP activity. The Standard state allows you to engage in or be the target of covert (non-combat) PvP. Certain actions, such as failing a covert PvP action or attacking someone in an Overt state can move you to the Overt state. The Overt state allows any Standard or Overt flagged player to engage you in combat.

Wow, A GUI!!!!   Nice, I have to go back and have a thorough look over it.  Seems pretty clean and crisp.  That Derth seems not to be fighting back.  Can I find some of those please.

Edit:  Article is a good read too.  Some very good background.  How about some background on the 3 factions now?

The gui is fantastic in my opinion. I love the hand drawn feel of it. Very easy to understand. As usual your depth of story is quite satisfactory. Im actualy curious what the tournament events will consist of*drolls at chance to joust*::::18:: Hrmm actualy I was curious tho, will the GUI be like WoW? I mean in the sense it can be edited. Im not sure if im pro or con for that.

    Interesting backstory on the races.

The only thing I don't like about the GUI in the picture shown is the font style. It's very--plain. But in all probability that is just a placeholder font anyhow. Good stuff.

Honestly I like the plain font. Extremely easy to read. Then agian my eyes arent what they should be hehe.

Wow, I really like the backstory on the Suwari... How the Feral's rage will translate into a game mechanic will be interesting. I'm gonna have fun dealing with my Feral's bloodlust.... It'll be very interesting to roleplay.

I am disappointed about the lack of a Burian history, but I suppose it'll come in good time.

The UI is very nice by the way. I like the look of it. ::::20::

Have you ever heard the phrase, "Saving the best for last"?

I'm not at all biased either. ::hums::

Don't worry, I've seen your completely non-biased posts on the Simu boards about Burians... ::::35::

I'll look forward to the coming of the great Burians.

Ah, good! Finally some PvP information. I guess it's safe to assume that on a PvP server everyone will be locked in Overt state. And... I'm interested in what sort of "non-combat PvP" we'll have. Quests maybe? Hmm...

What are Burians? My friend is looking for a non-human race that looks non-human. image

Cool stuff. I like the description of humans, nice to see that they're not the "average" race in this, they have their own strengths and weaknesses. I was planning on playing one primarily, and it's good to see that they'll likely suit my style quite well, and are very cool.

Burians are pretty much Dwarves with a fancy name. If your friend wants
a non-human looking race, Suwari is going to be as non-human as you get.

Is it me or does it look like Shadowbane? The graphics + the Gui give it a Shadowbane feel even though the graphics are better.
