Thinking of returning - need advice

stvnkrs10stvnkrs10 Member UncommonPosts: 53

Hello All. I played Archeage from day one and thought it was pretty fun and loved the gameplay. However, it was also full of hacks and exploits and it didn't seem anything was going to be done. I quit shortly after the first big update where they nerfed the lightning trees or whatever they are called.

Has anything been fixed? Are there still bots and gold farmers running wild?

Is there any pvm to this game or has it became a pvp haven?

Any advice is appreciated. Growing tired of playing UOF already and waiting on shards online to come out :)

    Ok some advice.

Game is F2P.   Download it again or not if you still have it.

    Play it.

    Decide for yourself.

Bonus advice!      Do not ask on forums for biased opinions of others in order to make up your mind.

Likely scenario...... if you did not like it before, that will probably not have changed.

FFA Nonconsentual Full Loot PvP ...You know you want it!!

Advice - Don't look around here for advice. You'll get sarcasm, and salty butthurt rage.

For the questions you've asked, I would pose them at https://www.reddit.com/r/archeage/

Sure, a subreddit for a particular game is going to exhibit a certain bias. You're talking to fans of said game. But you'll also actually receive up to date information as opposed to unhelpful mudslinging. Happy hunting! :)

    Things have gotten significantly better!

    • Land hacks are no longer happening.
    • Bots have been severely marginalized.
    • Mail spam gone.
    • Gold seller faction spam nearly gone.
    • Land on most servers is much more readily available and land in many prime spots can be purchased for minimal gold.
    • We finally got the level 55 level cap increase along with Diamond Shores/Library/Obsidian Weapons which added many new goals to the game.
    • Trion is far more communicative with it's player base now and is far more open with their discussions with XL games and what AA roadmap is. Tune in every Friday on Twitch for Trion's livestream info dumps.
    • Not sure what you mean by "Is there any pvm to this game".
As many have said, this is a terrible site for Archeage advise because there are many here that are completely obsessed with trying to get Archeage to fail because it has "wronged" them in some way. The reality is that most of these whiny babies stopped paying attention long ago and are trying to paint the picture that nothing has changed since launch WHICH IS FAR FROM THE TRUTH. In most cases, complaints stem from players obsessing over what their neighbor has which leads to the p2W conversation In reality, it is really about self control and guilt that they spent so much and got so little.

Based on this my advise to you,

    • Don't focus on what your neighbor has or how they got it.
    • Set goals in AA based on what your finances and time can permit and the rewards will come. They may not come as fast as those with more time or money but they will come.
    • Ohh and make sure you are a Patron by either subbing or via Apex.

Translation: Disregard everyone who is critical of this game and believe me, the guy with the Archeage avatar who could not possibly be biased in any way.

This game fell off the face of the Earth from a pretty high tower for a reason. ....and it is not because of "whiny babies" on the forum.

Mudslinging such as "salty butthurt rage" describing anyone who has an issue with this game? That kind of mudslinging?

i think the play the game and see for yourself since its F2p advice is the best advice you can get. anyone trying to get you to not try it yourself when it is free definitely has an agenda.

Actually, I was mainly referring to the kind of venom (lawl) people like you needlessly toss around.

I made no mention of anyone in particular, and I gave no indication that I disagreed with the criticism of this specific title. I simply pointed out that on mmorpg.com, he was more likely to find hyperbole and subjective arguing as opposed to the up to date information which he requested. Thank you for proving my point. I'm sure the OP will garner a wealth of information from your incredibly helpful posts in this thread.

Yes, i can see how your point is soooo proven. No, you insulted critics of this game on this forum as being butthurt and salty, your words not mine. Basically you were discrediting anyone with an opposing view before they even entered the thread.

The problem with "It's free.  Try it yourself." is that many of the issues with the game don't crop up until after you've already committed a lot of time to the game.  That's one of the ways the F2P business strategy works, after all.

Though if hacks were your only issue with the game, I'm pretty sure those are mostly a non-issue these days (seems like a combination of Trion fixing the existing ones and the hackers not finding it worth the time to make new ones, cause the base client hasn't changed as expected).  I'd be kinda surprised if those were your only issue with the game, though.

By sarcasm and salty butthurt rage, you can properly interpret that as his personal anger at other players who didn't like a game he liked due to the aforementioned problems, especially blatant p2w progression.

These points are what made me leave AA as much as I loved it.

You can't not focus on what your neighbor has or how they got it, because they will PK you and you will want to know how you can improve.

Setting goals is fine, it's when the goals take too long to complete and end up being a grind and not fun anymore. Which is what happens if you don't spend an arm and a leg. Subbing is not enough.

Now Playing: Bless / Summoners War
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile

You know that a game is in trouble when the first two responses try to direct the OP away from hearing other peoples' opinions, which is why they made the post.

"Biased opinions"?  All opinions are biased.  Why shouldn't people use other peoples' opinions and experiences to make a judgement call?  That is EXACTLY what people do all the time when they read a variety of reviews before making a decision about buying something.

There has been a concentrated drive to censoring opposing opinions lately all over the internet.  If you want to live in an echo chamber, that is your choice.  Not everyone has to follow such a path.  Criticism and varied opinions are often welcome.  It is the whole point of forums like this.

One of the major reasons I left as well was getting griefed over and over and over at level 35, in the level 30's zone by level 50's trying to rack up kill counts or whatever. It made the game hardly fun to be paying for something that I couldn't even step out of town during hostile phases, I understand that comes with the territory, but it sucked bigtime.

Was it same player camp spawn you ?

Cause playing by the rules is hardly "griefing".

Playing alpha was fun but the community is toxic back then and it still is now. On the good side more land is opening up so you will be able to do some farming if that is your thing.

Hacking and botting are still going on but just not as much. There are people who land grab but because of more open land it looks like they are having a hard time keeping up.

There is pvm but if you want to kill the kracken or something like that you need to get into a guild that does that but those are usually in pvp zones and you might get ganked.

There are still grievers and bridge blockers so if that is your thing, then you are in good shape.

The gamble boxes will give you mostly useless items with a small chance of getting something you want but if you want to buy them, go for it.

Yes. The game itself is as good as it ever was as far as actual play goes. Here's what you do for the rest of it.

PRETEND TRION DOESN'T EXIST. Don't read their tweets, don't read their press releases. Don't read their interviews . Don't watch their videos. Don't read articles about the game. Read only patch notes. It's been working well for me now since I returned. Just play the game, forget about Tyrone's fuck ups.
