Everyone hates WoW lately, is it becoming COOL to hate it or something.
I can understand that the community has more younger kids, but ya know what
thats cause it has more people overall. And if you want an unpopulated game why an mmo??
This game has huge beautiful worlds, a nice pvp, it rewards rather than punish,
its pretty balanced in endgame when compared with other games,
its got a good mix for casual and hardcore players
and its sickly intuitive.
I am an Anarchy Online fanboi, but i decided to try this as my friends have,
and ive dealt with it before but now that i really am trying it,
i find its very fun, and i may sign up for it.
The game has great graphics but im more of a gameplay guy,
i like the faster combat, the battlegrounds, the crafting, and
the huge worlds. Im currently a hunter nightelf, and its fun.
I also like how you level what u do not like AO where u can kill someone and get driving skill.
Simply put,
does anyone know why so many people hate this all of a sudden??
last year it was loved this year its like a bash fest,
however it does suck that some players cant sign in
but hey, its the price u pay for being popular,
they need to open up more servers and fast
YEAHHH!!!!
Just another handsome boy graduate...

There are legitimate reasons to critize Blizzard and WoW. However, simply WoW's the top dog of the mmo industry and some people will take swipes at for no other reason.

Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.
I doubt that everyone hates WoW. When you have a game with millions of players, even 1% of them saying they dislike the game would look like a lot of people. So you are probably just making an observation based on a small percentage. However, I also think you are correct in that there is a mob mentality that can consume a significant portion of the playerbase. Bad attitudes can spread like wildfire, and when someone lights a match at the right time you can have a flamewar.
That being said, people tend to take positive things for granted, while only complaining about what they dislike. Person A might like everything WoW except the lag, and will then post a complaint about how they hate lag. Soon, people like Person A will chime in develop a thread on how WoW sucks because of lag, as well as X, Y, and Z. That's always how rumors and hate threads start.
Most of the issues surrounding WoW that I've heard are lag/community in general.
As for the hating, I doubt it's because of it's success, but more because of bias opinions or simply they're wanting something different than WoW.
WoW is very popular now partly to what it has to offer in gameplay and features, and because of marketing. Blizzard was very successful with StarCraft, WarCraft, and Diablo II, and some if not most of the fans of Blizzard have converted to WoW now.
Well I would not say I hate it im just deeply dissapointed in it.. WOW was/is the most complete MMORPG that I have ever played (AO is second) but what got me to stop playing this game was the fact that PVP is pointless (no land ownership/sieges ect) BG's are pointless and have no meaning they do not effect the game world at all.. And the second reason that I started to like this game was the fact that the population is spread to thin, It became extremly hard trying to find groups on a top heavy server. Made no since to me that they had the highest population of any MMORPG but yet I could not find groups for my low lvls.

You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith
The more popular a game is, the more people will bother to write hate posts. I mean, you dont see any hate posts about Dune games, because they are old and not popular. Nobody bothers to "hate" them. This is natural, the more popular a game is - the more posts it will generate (both good and bad).
I personaly rather enjoy WoW, even though I dont play it anymore because I simply dont have time to play all my fav games. I think one of the biggest advantages this game has over all others is how appealing it is to the average player. The average player does not have time to spend 10 hours ina row raiding uber boss or spending several real life years grinding his/hers way to the high end content. Nor does the average player have superior learning skills to play his/hers game to a full potential (im talking about the learning curve, how much personal skill it is required to play sucessfully). Nor does the average player has enough cash to buy P4 3ghz + with 2+GB dual channel RAM, with dual Nvidia 7800 in SLI mode (with water cooling). This game is revolutionary for the simple reason that it did not invent the wheel, it just smoothed its edges and layed a straight road for you to ride on whenever you want, however you want.
I think WoW is the beginning of the new generation of MMORPGs, where most people actualy CAN make a difference. And you dont need a super-pooper system to run it, or spend years of your life crafting a toothpick.
I predict a new way of MMORPGs that would adopt the simplicity of WoW, but will add so much more content without making the game difficult or time consuming. Just need to find the right balance.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

The guys that hang out on the Official WoW boards are the very nearly the biggest bunch of whining losers you can find on the net. If that's what you mean, I suggest you just stay far the hell away from that screaming group of netmonkeys.
As for why it's bashed here so much, it's becauss this website attracts grumpy oldtimers that liked the cluncky punishing mechanics of games like launch EQ (I'm one of those oldtimers, btw) and net kiddies that think the best way to prove that they are "hardcore" is to pretend to hate whatever is mainstream (and WoW is ceratinly mainstream). Maybe I'mn a cynical dickhead, but that's my take.
PS: Pleaase don't think I'm bashing evry man woman and child that comes to these boards. There are certainly many folks that i have a lot of respect for here
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.
for me its defiantly the community, it is really awful for whatever reason. also it really depends on the person, alot of people that come to these boards are hardcore.
if you are hardcore that game wont last to long with you unless you make lots of alts lol(like i have )
the bg's are also garbage IMO, but not because they are meaningless.....because they are instances and you have to grind them for unreal amounts of time to get the items you want.
not trying to turn this into a wow review, i love wow but there are defiantly reasons to not like the game.
p.s i have played wow since open beta and still play it...there is just nothing better for me ATM.
read this http://www.vanguardsoh.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1044304#post1044304 then come back and talk to me about the vanguard/soe fiasco.....
i dont know. maybe because wow is fast spreading globally. have heard that millions of people in china loves to play wow. I love this game.....

Actually they are not hating the game itself but the Blizzard, anyway as the saying goes "Bad publicity is still a good publicity",right?=)
So I'm sure Blizzard won't mind them, they are actually glad because players are still interested in the game.

There two big reasons for the WoW hate:
1. The community. After being flammed at random by some prepubescent brat for the 273649th time that day, you start taking it out on the game as a whole.
2. Due to the success of WoW, many other companies (*cough* SOE) are trying to mimic it by incorporating it's worst features, while forgetting why it became big in the first place.

And I don't want to hear anything about "I don't believe in vampires" because *I* don't believe in vampires, but I believe in my own two eyes, and what *I* saw is ******* vampires! "
Besides that there are many reasons to "hate" WoW.
Why? It gets too much room.
For people not playing WoW many finds it truly disturbing when their friends does nothing but talk about it, if you are not playing WoW it's hell to listen too all the time, that is the number one reason I dislike it.
Then some more reasons from my side is the community of course, I have seen millions of stupid things people say in WoW discussions and so on.
Then we have the linear stuff, that WoW is so linear and that people just might find it odd such a casual game gets so high, or even HIGHEST as it is now.
When a game reaches such heights is there then strange it gets so much critique? Think about it, it GENERATES haters of its own, I for example would not play it because it is WoW.

Most ppl have no problem with wow. The ppl that are unliked are those that come to a game and try to turn it into something else. Such as the vanguard forums. Loads of ppl go there asking for insta port or soloable content so the ppl that don't want these things will kick up a fuss.
Also alot of wows players are just annoying 'kids'. They play for themselves and don't care if they annoying anyone else. Such as the pvpers that just kill low lvlers for the fun of it or ppl that will join a group just to leech xp and won't do anything. There's a growing disrepect in the new mmo players that we shouldn't have to put up with.
No ones saying that the wow communtiy is bad, it just has alot more idiots than most mmos.
Rofl what are you talking about? Everything you said isn't true. WoW is always 2nd best (at best) in those categories. EQ which i've played for 6 years and still am playing had more people playing then WoW atm. I wouldn't say WoW is the most popular MMO out there. Most WoW are people under 20 and they are to inmature to play no matter how " cool they are in insta's". They cant run well guilds period. They whine to much, complain about not getting gear. Always me me me. The community sucks because to many farmers for the most part.
Jigsaw Jesus wrote: Everyone hates WoW lately.
Wrong!! I hated WoW from way back when and not lately. Many people been hated WoW for the longest as its an over-hyped old game. Its just that more of them are posting it lately.
I know, they'll say it has had a large population. But thats only because its been around a long time since before it came on as a mmorpg. And it plays in many countries around the world so natch it'll have a large population.
People can't get in because greed has pulled in people without a place to put them in. They've opened the game in many places and now have no place to put them so they can't log in.
Vanguard Saga of Heroes will overtake WoW in no time when it comes out and it won't even be that difficult to do it.
WoW is the best of the worse of its kind.
So, by your definition a good game is if 1 person plays it, and that one person is you? Over-hyped realy means a game that has been advertised a lot and at the release it turned out with very low popularity, like Dark and Light. I think WoW has proved everyone it wasnt overhyped, and even if it was overhyped, it sure did live up to its hype.
- its like saying "This chair is softer because its made of leather, and the other is made of wood". Weird logic. - this kinda contradicts your own statement. If the game was NOT popular, then problems with login would only encourage people to choose another game. Yet, WoW playerbase is increasing still, after a year and a half of being out. - we shall see. I look forward to trying Vanguard. But it wont be easy to de-throne WoW - the #1 MMORPG at the moment.I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

I like WoW, for the most part. But two things that will force me to quit and soon.
1. The community. It is absolutely horrible. I can't stress out how bad it is. If they don't agree with something, then the person is gay or a retard or they should die IRL. Immature at best, hopelessly beyond saving at worst.
2. WoW PvP is a joke. UT2004 gameplay in an MMO is neither revolutionary nor fun, it's just plain lazy development. CTF and Domination are fine in a FPS, not acceptable in a MMO.
Blizzard has also fallen into the raiding-as-content trap. Instead of putting actual time into developing better content, they just throw raid crap together.
Lol, don't mind Blue3000. We've already determined he's either never played the game, or he's just a complete moron.

Whoa ... this baby almost fell off the page!
Ico
Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.
1. PvP is... lack luster, it's something they implemented after the game was released and it's obvious it's not the main focus of the game, thus it suffers drastically from neglect.
2. LOL, Rewards? Do you mean the PvP rewards? The ones that require you to PvP 40+ Hours a week to maintain?
3. Uh, Warlocks anyone? *Death Coil, single target castable fear while you're death coil feared, shadowbolt to death without you even having the opprotunity to do anything.* Not to mention Shamans in WSG. (They're pretty much fine everywhere else, though I will admit they are quite annoying.)
4. Haha, Good mix between casual and hardcore? Are you even level 60 yet? Because once you hit level 60 any notions of a casual friendly game wither and die, even notions of a game that don't require raiding to do anything die.
5. Intuitive... What about it is intuitive? It looks to me like a clone of Everquest but based in the Warcraft universe which would make sense since Jeff Kaplan (Tigole) is the head developer. (I think that's what his role was...)
Lots of us who dislike raiding are fed up, we'll be the first to leave.
The raiders who only raid for items for PvP will follow as the easy targets they enjoyed will be gone, and they'll be back to square one, fighting as if they had no epics at all.
You'll only be left with the hardcore PvErs who enjoy raiding, and I'd assume that's somewhere under the 20% percentile of the population. Don't think that'll be enough to maintain 100+ servers, merges will happen perhaps they'll lose even more as they make changes to try and bring their old customers back. Perhaps WoW is just Asheron's Call 3, destined to flop just as hard as 2.
"Your mom is my champion... just without the c... or the a... or the m... the p... the i... and now that you mention it, no, no n either."
I played it, and I enjoyed it...and then I hit 60...and it sucked, I would log in and spend 3 hours just sitting in Iron Forge looking for a raid party. Yea it was a good thing while it lasted but Im done with it and Im moving on. Its worth trying for anyone that hasent tried it, but i still think blizzard could have done a much better job with many differnt things. I didnt feel a need to hate at blizzard as I got bored with the game, I resptect what they made and it provided me with a couple of months of good entertainment...no I wont be going back with any further expansions, but I dont feel the need to Flame the boards about the game...
So I guess my answer is somehting along the lines of "I have no fucking clue" lol
Sunbath. I would like to just point out though that by the very definition of popular, WOW is most certainly the most popular game out on the market at the moment. All of SOE's titles combined (EQ, EQ2, SWG,Matrix online) do not come even close to the number of suscribers that WOW commands.
