Seeking Crafting/good economy mmo.

Heffy424Heffy424 Member UncommonPosts: 524

Hello everyone as the title states i'm looking for an MMO with a good player driven economy and reliance and crafting as a big cornerstone. Being a SWG I can't say I want a system like that since its better to just play that again. I'd like something in a fantasy/medieval realm so that rules out the popular choice of EVE (which i detest). I'll list some i've looked at already but seeking further information on hidden gems.

-Gloria Victis- concept seems right for me but pre-alpha games tend to scare me away I'm not a fan of hard work being lost due to a wipe.

-Life is Feudal- same as GV.

-Archeage - I looked at it a few times but i've heard negative things about it from friends and reviews/youtube relentlessly some doubt i'll try it.

Now for a list of what I have tried.

-Pirates of the Burning Sea

-Dark Age of Camelot

-Albion Online

-Age of Conan

-Lord of the Rings online.

Any help on a title I haven't  heard of would be great graphics aren't a  huge deal to be but 3D is preferred tried 2D games and it doesn't really work for me.

SWG Emu....star wars galaxies emulator. Has enough players on the server every day.

The Repopulation,,,still in early stages I would say and it feels clunky.

Sorry I dont know of any early century games that have player driven economy other than runescape =D, which isnt that bad of a game either if im being fair.

I think what you are looking for is one of the hardest things to find in any MMO these days and I find it quite disheartening.   There is only one MMO at the moment that does it properly IMO, and that is the one you obviously hate.   I think the idea of a crafting economy has taken a back seat to the ideal of a sandbox MMO, which would presumably include this, but as we all know is notoriously difficult to create.

In order to have a viable economy you need some form of item decay or destruction.   Plenty of games have decent crafting, but in the decay aspect they are lacking.  Plus crafting needs to be difficult or time consuming or both,  for it to be effective.   If everyone can max level their crafting in minimal time then people make their own stuff via alts, and again the economy suffers.

It is a tricky balancing act any way you slice it, almost like balancing PvP.   But in practically every MMO Crafting /economy will always take a back seat, to either PvP/ combat or PvE / combat.

It is the red-headed stepchild of MMO's unfortunately.

My guess is Repop will do it best, only because it mimics SWG.   Gonna have to wait for it to finish though.

Wurm online is exactly what you (and most other people on this forum) are looking for

Try archeage, people may say it is pay to win but its not.  You can pay to progress faster but you can get everything all the same.  It is a very robust game.  At first I thought I would hate it, then it grew on me.  People who want stuff now and people who are me me me seem to be the ones that complain about the game.  You have to work to own a house or a boat.  I really enjoy it, it is free to play.  No reason not to try.

Worst crafting MMO out there right now, purely RNG hell. Trion destroyed the economy already.

Keep in mind that unless you are crafting busywork items like bricks or mortar then stuff you make wont be of high enough quality for anyone to buy for a long time in Wurm. Also the money in the economy is 'real money' in the sense that you buy and sell it for real life money. (6 silver is 10 euros)

Unless you play on one of the PVE servers then your server population and activity will most likely be very low.

One of the only ways to keep crafting 'useful' if there is no real item decay or item destruction.

    Istaria.

Economy is almost entire player-driven. You need good armour? Ask armourer. Need spells? Spellcrafter should be around. Player owned plots have structures from  tier 1 to highest tier 6 that need your aid to appear (no NPC would come and help).

Restrictions: plot owning only for those paying 15$/month. Free players can be only Humans and do not own plot. All other content is available to every player, paying or not. Graphic is not top one, community (after, say, popular Lotro servers) may appear small (but is is friendly and reliable).

If you choose Istaria's server Order, feel free to find my toon, Nakties karys on Universal Soldiers chat.

You can try ATLANTICA ONLINE. I've been playing since 2008 and the game has still players and still the economy very much active ^^

Basically there are currently 6 servers and the market (Auction House you can call) is cross-server which means you can farm items on Server A and put it on market, and a player from Server B can still buy it.

Crafting and trading/market is big in this game.

There many ways of crafting, auto crafting (just learn autocrafting and sit in town afk and you start crafting, it takes a while) or a guild craft function where each player contributes to the guild craft( which is personal craft but every player that grinds helps with finishing the craft).

So because of the guild crafting system it benefices players who are in guild and contributes to the guild craft. Guilds can form a nation , so the social feature is pretty much like in game of thrones. Once you have acquired some op gear the WHOLE server will know your name ^^

Hit me up on Thebes, here is a Code that you can use once you enter in the Tutorial mode 3NE3EF7QD8QU. I will get an message and after that I can take you under my care.

GL finding your new game. As for me, sticking with ATLANTICA ONLINE ^^ best MMORPG ever xD

All great suggestions I would go back to SWG only problem I have is i'm in Japan and my CDs/DVDs are back in the states, I plan to grab them when I head home for leave. I'm looking forward to repop as its gaining steam lately in hype. As for the others I think i've heard of Istaria so i'll check that one out first as well as all the others. I remember hearing about WURM think i eve tried it once but i remember there being something negative about it with the company, i cannot remember what.

When it comes to crafting not many MMOs beats Mortal Online. All recipies are for you to find out. You can more or less make anything. But when it comes to for instance healing potions etc, you will have to experiment to find out what is best. Peeps hold on to their recepies well. So you could make some good cash if you put time into it. And you could live on being a crafter alone in MO. If you get good at it. But it takes time to find out all of these things. I rec. you give it a try. They have a free trial thingy you could go for before investing any money to hit. It's a harsh world in MO. No real safe zones etc. Be prepared to die. Alot. :P

Yes, because when the economy is filled to the brim with rune platebodies and you can't turn a profit crafting them anymore because they will never leave the game that helps out crafting right?

RNG does not make crafted items leave the system either. What is your point?

All what RNG does is increase the amount of materials needed to craft something profitable. In case of AA, it means lots of burned labor points and pots = money for Trion/XL.
