Matrix Online (pre-SOE). It was just a mess from top to bottom. Graphic issues up the wahzoo, crappy gameplay (interlock? WTH), missions you couldn't complete because of the bugs, etc. etc. ad nauseum. I was really looking forward to this game and it had such a good premise, but all it delivered on was dissapointment.
-------------- Played: Age of Conan, DDO, Saga of Ryzom, SWG, DaOC, MxO, EQ2, and so on... Wish List: Jumpgate Evolution, Star Wars: TOR, Star Trek
I was picked for first 100 beta testers, was real big into the development of the game and everything.
I was just talking about this last night with another one from the first beta. It was a lot of fun dreaming all the ways the game could be great. Worst thing they did was release it.
Lineage 2. I tried the open beta and when I saw the dark elves running around bent over, I couldn't stop laughing. Sad that folks think that looked cool. Sad that developers actually took the time to implement it. Gameplay was general crap as well. Asian MMO's are boring beyond belief.
The best is still DAoC. No one has put together a more complete blend of PvE/PvP. For all of its' problems (reliance on buffbots, class balance, TOA ), DAoC still holds the title.
final fansasy, if i have to try that hard to have fun, im not having fun
as far as DaoC..i have to disagree and its obvious you dowloaded the trial with no expansion and played it to lvl 4. It's the best mmorpg out there by a long shot, if it came out today in its present state(classic servers) under a new title, it would take half of WoW's business.
I do not have any one game i hate in particular. I do however dislike a certain time frame in games especially MMO's. This "milestone" that happens to most MMO's especially in SOE is the dreaded 'Big Patch'. These company feel that they need to have their developers complete revamp the game to the point that it sometimes feel you have to learn the game all over again. Worse than that is the ever more dreaded 'Big Patch 2'
I don not particulary blame the developers on this "fully". We as consumers usually seem to go on a rampage and rave like madmen and women about "change this" and "change that". That at the end causes the game to loose much of it's integrity interms of gameplay, but becomes stale in terms that you some time feel that your avatar seems to be dulled down or up. Then you are stuck with a sort of a shell of character that you place on top of the same basic model. Just because a warrior "uber slash" does a 1000 points of damage and the wizards "uber spell" does the same amount. In the end does not make them different because your playing a different class. It is the same vanilla ice cream with a variation on the sprinkles.

I hope you realize how much of an ass you're making of yourself. Lineage 1 was actually harder than Lineage 2. All of the things you're complaining about Lineage 2 are even worse in Lineage 1, and yet you act like you've not only played it, but that it was a "great" game.
I'd have to say I've never really hated an MMORPG... but probably the most frustrating one would be DAoC. I've heard so many good things about it, and I loved everything I read about it, but the interface, graphics engine, and the rubberband lag kept me from playing past level 20.

SECOND LIFE is my number 1 Frightening. In so many ways that you would lock your bedroom door and your computer in the closet down the hall so the GOR people can't find your house to take you away into a life of dom slavery. Do the trial seriously if you don't believe me.
then comes WOW
WOW was the biggest waste of time and money ever. Blizzard should be spanked for putting something that crappy on the market after making me so excited. Im the kid that maxed out Diablo II and the LOD. I got ever item ever and the hardcore chars. I love WC and Diablo. WOW big Big BIG downer.
"Despite what they tell you the original RAY's is on 7th ave."
DAoC - Biggest letdown for me. All that anticipation that built up in me waiting for its release only to be dashed by a dull, shallow game. It couldnt even keep me interested for a couple of months.
EVE - hands down Log on - go mine Log on - spend hours hunting down players, they warp away and log off Log on - go mine Log on - no one else on, nothing to do, log off Log on - train new skill Log on - go mine Log on - no one else on, nothing to do, log off Rinse - Repeat
Dude, it's WAY better than that.
Log on - go mine, make a sandwhich
Log on - spend hours trying to figure out why one item thats 1% better than another is 1,000,000 more ISK
Log on - go mine, watch some tv
Log on - start training a new skill i might use in the future...maybe
Log on - go mine, play with my guitar
Log on - find pirates, press 2 buttons, make a sandwhich, come back victorious
I expected alot from FFXI and i still do but it's not on my worst list.
The top of my worst list has to be Hands down SWG. SWG had the MMORPG world BUILT into it all they had to do was update and make it better from time to time. Heh but of course SOE messed it up.
Honestly i wouldn't mine another Star Wars MMORPG as long as it's not Like the first one and if i may add Lucas Arts isn't doing crap to even make the origanal SWG times come back.
That's what pisses me off. By the way Lineage 2 isn't so bad except for the PK part >.> that's retarded.

that is the same logic as complaining about WoW or EQ for OFFERING THE POSSIBILITY to go fishing all day long.
of course it may be boring (still others love it. mining or fishing), but you CAN DO IT. tne game doesnt slap you on the wrist for doing it too much or often.
so if you are unimaginable and dense enough to mine all day AND NOT HAVING FUN while doing it, then quit and complain about WHAT YOU CHOSE TO DO, you are making yourself rediculous.
but then: most likely you have never played the game and you are just a troll... would be more flattering than the idiot fishing all day and telling us how stupid a game is that offers fishing
they made the biggest mistake in mmorpg history , they made a game where its allabout items , u farm for items in instances , u farm for items even when u play in the battlegrounds :S
and the grind is to easy and no team work until the hard instances even then its boring and to much immature kids running around
wonder if the 5 milion player count is tr , becuse they dont seems to count the ppl that left the game.
but wow is a good start for a mmorpg virgin , but for the rest its just an empty shell

I like how you threw in the troll comment, even though I know YOU know that one would have to play EVE to make a comment like:
"Log on - spend hours trying to figure out why one item thats 1% better than another is 1,000,000 more ISK"
Anyway, now to totally smashing your lame post. Your comparison is horrible because, in WoW, fishing is not a major gameplay factor. It's not even important to the game. Mining in EVE, though, is definitely a major gameplay factor and I'm sure it's the most common way for a new player to start getting cash. I could have just as easily done courier missions too, which are less eventful than mining runs. Maybe I also could have taken some bounties on player's and just got my ass kicked to the curb. None of those 3 examples are fun for new players, and they are all major gameplay activities in EVE.
The only thing I didn't try is joining a Player Corp. That may have been where the real excitement starts but, if the only fun in a game (yes, even mmorpgs) is spent devoting time to an association of strangers then the game could definitely use some more gameplay options.
I bet I'm gonna get flamed for this first one. I know it isn't technically an MMO, but it is related.
I hated Neverwinter Nights. It was actually a step backwards in evolution compared to Baldur's Gate, and Icewind Dale. The player made content which came out later is the only saving grace, and really the only point for that game ever existing.
First reason I hated NWN is the huge disappointment. It was in development for so long, and yet they managed to turn out garbage. Awesome.
Secondly the graphics were terrible. I would have prefered the 2D engines from previous games compared to the blocky, lifeless models used in NWN. They didn't even change the view from being default isometric so what exactly was the point of being in 3D? To zoom in so I could see how crappy everything looked up close?
Third, and this is a big one. Dungeons and Dragons is based on a party of adventurers, and the entire system is built around the fact no one can go it alone. So what did NWN do for their single player campaign? They removed the ability to play as a party, and to make things worse they gave you hencmen you couldn't even directly control so they got in the way more often than they helped.
NWN wasn't a game. It was a toolset released to the community disguised as a game.
The MMO I hated the most is definiately Star Wars Galaxies, and that's before the entire system was revamped.
The combat system in SWG was needlessly complex. Three different pools you draw your abilities from, but they also all three count as health? I can't wear armor unless my pools are buffed by a doctor. Hurrah for waiting around in spaceports standing in line for a buff!
Quests were so incredibly lame. I don't mind being able to get them from a terminal, but every single quest took you out to a generic spawnpoint which was basically like your little reserved killing field, and served no other purpose.
The completely player controlled economy drove me insane. I spent way too much time shopping for crap, and having to traipse all over the planets to do it.
Things didn't feel like Star Wars. They just kinda looked like Star Wars.
Don't get me started on professions, and apprentice points.
Hologrinding was shady. I didn't even want to play a jedi, but I felt sorry for the poor saps who toiled through crap like chef, and tailor (key classes to a Star Wars experience of course) to get there, or possibly not since SOE just kept raising the number of professions it took to get there without telling anyone.
After the complete overhaul of the game I downloaded the free trial. It is funny to see what they have done. They simplified the combat, and are now trying their hardest to say, "Yes this is Star Wars!" Within ten minutes I had met Han Solo, and Boba Fett, and they were hanging out on the same space station. You'd think the galaxy's most notorious bounty hunter might know if one his most lucrative targets was just down the hall. Also getting missions from Boba Fett? That just seemed odd. things still just look like Star Wars, but now they're hitting you over the head with it.
That game is just laughably hideous. I feel better now that I've vented. Huzzah.
When people will pay others to play a game for them it might be a sign the game isn't all that fun.
MMO games played or tested: EQ, DAoC, Archlord, Auto Assault, CoH, CoV, EQ2, EVE, Guild Wars, Hellgate: London, Linneage II, LOTRO, MxO, Planetside, SWG, Sword of the New World, Tabula Rasa, Vanguard, WWIIOL, WOW, Age of Conan

SWG
Dev sanctioned griefing with no way of escape or revenge.
Constant nerfing, changing and destruction of the game.
Non-existant support.
Lying, repeatedly to the community. Treating us like idiots while they make money. Showing absolutely no respect to the player base.
I could go on endlessly but suffice it to say I despise SoE because of this and will NEVER play another game made by them again.

I have to say SWG for the horrible controls and L2 for the boring grindfest. I don't want to start on the really low budget MMO's.
Best so far DAoC and EVE.
I found Anarchy Online to be absolutely nauseating.
The controls were horrible, the interface was confusing and the community was lacking any sign of RP.
