Howdy
From what I am able to tell there are alot of unsatisfied people who tried this game. The reason for this, I belive, is that you have to pay money to keep up? So my question is this, how much do you need to spend a month doing fine, nothing hardcore just casual.
2nd question, how is the community?
and my final question is if there are instances in this game, invisiible walls etc. or is it a true open world?
I guess what I am really looking for is a game that has a feel reminiscent of a VSOH. RIght now I just started playing ffxiv, and i
do like alot about it, but I must say that the instancing is just very heavy and paired with the invisible walls all over, it does feel
like a bit of a kick in the nutsack.
Kind regards

PVP game. Balance is a total mess. Usually heavily imbalanced to one faction or another. You can freely kill any player in game... doesn't matter if they are in your faction or not. Very much so gear dependent. If you plan on owning a farm or building a house, you will spend a small fortune playing this game... assuming you even can get a plot of land.
In other words, if you don't lust to sneak around killing peeps and stealing their trade packs and sinking their ships... this game isn't for you.
agree with the other poster. I went farming and crafting at the start and it's head wrecking as you feel you must always log in. Even on nights where I had no intention of playing I still had to log in to harvest stuff.
Stay free to play, to dungeons and pvp. I liked the game but I've cancelled my subs, yes subs, got a brain box idea to get an extra sub to increase labour etc. I really like the game but you feel you can't take time off from it.
At least if you don;t roll a sub you can enjoy dungeons an what not without feeling you have to log in every day.
This is what made a friend quit as well. He got an OCD compulsion to spend his LP each day (since he was paying for them I guess?) and eventually got so burned out with just spending them each day for several hours and doing nothing else, that he quit the game.
I suppose the flipside would be always being out of LP as a F2P account. xD

Sooooo....
On the other hand I have been playing FTP for about 2-3 weeks now. I have just started and I am actually enjoying the game. Is there risk, yes. Are there trolls and crappy players, yes (like in most games).
If you want to try it you can play for free. I have several characters and have been having fun. So if you play it for free and don't have fun don't buy it. if you play it for free and have fun then consider paying for a month that is my moto.
Z.
ArcheAge is literally farmville 2.0 with PvP. The political system is skewed towards zerg guilds, the instances are week. The environment is desolate and the players are all afk farming or hitting scarecrows. Who wins the war is dependent on who is farming at that hour and if your server favors 1 side to the other.
All in all, it was a pretty normal MMO, what was amazing was the fact that on paper the game seems to have alot, but when you play it for a bit you realize how shallow it is without dumping huge amounts of money. The most time you will spend grinding for gear is at your job outside of the game. Cash in your paycheck for a gear boost!
If you dont plan to be a subscriber then i suggest you dont spend a single penny in the cash shop as a free player. No matter how much money you spend in the cash shop you still cannot own your own house or even sell in the auction house. They must be thinking that the money that non-subbers spend in the cash shop has less value that the subbers money. (Im talking about nonsubbers that do spend money, not freeloaders)
They could at lest sell in the cash shop the in-game right to own a house, and sell an unlock to sell in the AH. I would pay for that and continue to support them that way. Meanwhile, my wallet opens somewhere else where my money has equal value to every player out there regardless of business model.
They actually do sell the unlock to let you AH things. Unless they've pulled it from the game by now, since I haven't touched it since the mess that was launch.
I had intended to get it while staying F2P.

i went through the whole cash shop several times and didnt see it. Maybe i totally missed it, or maybe its not there. Since i already uninstalled it, someone else could confirm/deny its existence.
I just updated my client and checked. It's still there. It costs 150 credits and applies to the whole account.
From the wiki:
http://archeage.gamepedia.com/Auction_House#Selling
You must either have patron status or buy an auction license from the marketplace to use the auction house to sell items. When posting an item on the auction house a fee must be payed to create the transaction. The price depends on the asking price/buyout and duration of the posting. If the item did not sell in the selected interval the item will be delivered to the user in the mail, while also losing the payed fee. If the item did sell the auction house keeps 10% of the charge but will return the initial fee.
The lack of a housing license that you also mentioned is quite painful though, and it's also the reason I'll never be able to feel invested in the game.
I understand the need to keep space available by nuking inactive players houses, but at the same time I don't want to pay forever just to keep my house.

No need to throw money into this game yet. Jump in on the free to play and max out a character and then decide if you still want to play it. I think you will like it when you first get in and have the urge to drop some cash in the shop but but if you can resist that and check out the game at max-level, you may find it isnt the game for you and be glad you didnt spend any money on it. The game has alot of cool things like:
Farming
House ownership
boats
but those thing get old fast, especially the farming where you find yourself logging in everyday just to harvest and plant more to craft more. The crafting seems like a great idea at first since it uses level-1 stuff to make level-2 stuff but then you find at the higher levels you need unique items that are much easier found in the cash shop then in the game world. You also find out it is all based on random numbers being generated so you could drop $100 in the cash shop and fail 50 times while your buddy could succeed on his first try.
Jump in for free and avoid the honeymoon phase where you think everything is great, get to endgame and then decide if you still like it. If you do, throw some money into it and see where it takes you. Just dont get caught up like I did and give them a bunch of cash in the first two months and then regret it later.
It can be played for free, so it doesnt cost you anything to jump in and finmd out for yourself.
For me it has become my MMORPG home after 10 years of mediocre games and instanced shit.
This is a MMORPG how it should be.
As for the playerbase it is a PVP one so dont expect welcoming flowers and cheers from encounters.
If you like it, it is important to join a well organised guild.
Trying to play Archeage as a FTP game will leave you with a poor impression of the game.
If you decide to try it, do yourself a favour and purchase a one month subscription.
Apex is down to a more decent level, if you want to pay sub with credits. Farming coin purses is a good way to make coin, if you have no land. Depending on where you look 8x8s and 16x16s are pretty cheap. Crafting is a bust until they fix archeum drop rates. Some major changes are headed to the game via 1.7 a and 1.7 b. (1.7 a to happen this month)
You shouldn't struggle too much to get your hands on decent gear, however if 1v1 is what you want to do, you'll need a deep wallet. This is not a soloable game, you need a guild, which won't be hard to come by, if you join a server with a solid population. 99.9% of the guilds are recruiting.
My advice do the apex route, if you don't want to pay a sub.
For me its the best game that we currently have.
i let my patronage expire last month and i will explain why. the things that interested me most about this game...farming housing crafting are kinda locked behing a housing plot which is very hard to come by and the sole true economic benefit of trade packs leads to a very big gankfest. i played on the alpha server as a founder and the community was better. was there ganking yes but you still had a powerful guild to play with or just others who liked to defend trading caravans. that community disappeared when at launch auroria wasnt in, and they way some things were gated to the cash shop just pushed alot of people away. i go back sometimes to level a little but i feel burned
so say we all
That's one of my favorite things to do but game put me off in the first 5 minutes, feels like perfect world , empty, soulles booring.
Do what you want to but here is my 2 cents:
In this game, it is all about he who as the best gear wins. That is the pvp in a nutshell. There is some ganking going on and always by someone who is potted and heavily geared killing people in Hasla who are trying to get gear.
From what I understand Khrolan (is either a gm or dev) was helping Outcry ( a pirate guild ) by giving them advanced info on upcoming changes in the game.

http://www.reddit.com/r/archeage/comments/33at55/
The jist of it was that he is in a guild called outcry on the Ollo server and he had a special channel where he streamed for 3 outcry officers and some TT6, giving them info. Someone caught him and posted the video of the stream on you tube. When Khrolan saw more than 12 people on his stream he immediately cut it. If you look around you can get more info about this.
There are still issues with labor and it is only getting worse. The purses cost more and more labor to open and you really do not get a whole lot out of them. Trion said in plenty of live streams that they were going to increase the archeum drop rates in purses but that was really not the case. Crafting still costs a ton of labor and that is done that way by design so you spend more in the cash shop on labor pots.
The gamble boxes are junk. You have a very low chance at getting the item that you want out of it but It is your choice if you want to buy them but you will mostly end up with useless items.
People still block bridges with carts during peace time and make it hard to turn in packs so forget about using a hauler or farm wagon in these cases. The mantra on the forums is to go around the blocks, which is very possible if you carry one trade pack at a time on a donkey. But on the other hand, if you are trying to get ahead, then carrying one pack at a time is not really going to help you. Occasionally you will lose packs and it would not be so terrible if the labor regen wasn’t total shit. Even for patrons it is shit.
People are leaving the game so you should be able to find land if that is what you want to do.
IMO the games aggravation level outweighs the amount of fun you get out of it unless you plan to grieve people, then the game is fun. As for myself, I plan on giving my land away to my guildies and as soon as my sub runs out I do not plan to come back.
The Develelopers PLAY their own game, they active in guilds in disguise, they know it is the best game out there and they right in this.
The game is open world, only in arena gear deciding the result. Arena dont have to the visited. The game is open world and cpmbat situationas cantz be predicted like which class and amount of encounters.
The new pursues arent already live, from test server results the new types yield great loot according to some testers and some guildies of mine.
Archeum changes aren't in game yet. Everyone gives you verdict about them prior to patch talks shit.
Gamble boxes i wouldn't buy. Heck dont buiy anything beside your patron subscription. i haven bought anythjng from marketplace except my slothy glider and that was just for loyalty tokens. Pegasus the flying mount i will get very soon by loyalty as well.
People who block the roads gets banned. I have to see in months anyone blocking roads on my server and everyone who did i havent see in game since.
On 28th the new era of the best game release since 2003 (groundgame so except EvE) starts with the patch 1.7a !
I would not call it the best game. out there as Trion try to funnel people in to the cash shop and as far as people getting banned for blocking roads that just isn't true. The GMs even take part in such activities which they are not supposed to do.
http://forums.archeagegame.com/showthread.php?181837-How-TT6-Blocks-Bridges-%28with-DIY-Screenshots%29
it can be called the best game out there because even if you dont like the payment modell which you entitled to, IT IS the best game out there.
About the roads blocking, like i mentioned havent see it on my EU server happen in months.
If you mean they are the best game because of all the bugs, exploits, cheats, griefers and failed starts every time there is a new expansion, then you and I will have a different point of view on what is the best and for what reason. Simply click on the link above for proof that road blocking and griefing do occur in game. Perhaps Europeans are more cordial in that they do not to do something because they can. On the EU server I play on some pirates took fish from some fishermen in my guild but did not destroy the boat. If it was on the NA side the fish would be taken and the boat destroyed.
Playing since launch day.
Never used the cash shop.
Pay subscription tho to support the game and i think its fair to not play the best game entirely free (which is possible too but not recommended for starting fresh new players).
protip : joining a well organized guild (i admit its difficult to find one, but good guilds share labor usage for example)
