What kind of an MMO game would you make?

SteelhelmSteelhelm Member UncommonPosts: 332

Isn't this the question the developers should be asking?

So, what kind of an MMO game would you make?

Talking about games where thousands of players exist simultaneously in a single instance and mechanics related to such games.

If I had a billion dollars....

I would purchase the rights to shadowbane, upgrade the graphics and ai.

    Play to my hearts content.

I would buy the rights to Asherons Call and make part 3, it would be based alot off part 1. Im not going to go into detail here but anybody who liked AC1 knows what im talking about.

I've answered this question before, but I try to find a different way to present the concept each time, so here's the current attempt: An interactive story MMORPSIM with tactical turn-based pet combat.  Lots of crafting via minigame play.  Probably biofantasy, though I've been leaning toward alien archeology recently; either way it would be a cheerful adventure/humor/romance mix, none of this gritty war horror high fantasy trash.
I want to help design and develop a PvE-focused, solo-friendly, sandpark MMO which combines crafting, monster hunting, and story.  So PM me if you are starting one.

I would do something like this as well. So many things right in AC1 that no one has iterated on is kind of sad. However, this genre is in dire need of a fresh coat of paint. The copy pasta method of 'kill 10 rats' development in mmos is tired and it needs something new. Every time I ask myself what I would do to make it different and new I draw a blank though :(

I'd see if I could get Anne Rice to authorize a Vampire Chronicles game.

    Space MMO

    - Twitch control space combat

    - Ability to land on and explore planets

    - Player made space stations and land bases

Think Eve Online meets Freelancer meets SWG's.

Sandbox post apocalypse magic tech MMORPG.  A monster hunting, dungeon raiding action adventure 8 man speciality  MMO.   A red dead redemption style western MMORPG or even a samurai ronin type setting would be interesting.

I have thought about a Red Dead Redemption Wild West MMORPG before as well. If done right, and kept in line with the real wild west...maybe it could not only be fun, but dare I say, educational too.

No rules, let the players make and set the rules...just as in the real wild west.

Cross EVE Online with Star Trek Online, and I would be a happy camper.
  • ArtaiosArtaios Member UncommonPosts: 550

copy the real life only with respawn, scifi and magic.

getting levels/skills by time and by practice.

no epic quests, just jobs/assignments to earn money or skill xp to expand skills fitting to your level.

    craft what you want.
    build what you want.

    everyone can craft/build everything.
only with time/practice/skill and access to good tools you will be able to craft/build high quality stuff.

    servers are divided by centurys.
wanna play medival go server 1
wanna play current go server 2
    future is server 3.

wanna gain farm skills? grab a stick. dig a hole. plant a tree.

every thing should be easy to learn but take years to master.

I would make a new superhero MMO with the art style of City of Heroes/Villains and the gameplay style of Champions Online - though not freeform. Characters would be locked into their classes.

What kind of MMO would I make?  No, no, that's the wrong question entirely.  The right question is:  what kind of MMO game am I making?  And the answer there is, procedurally generated everything.  And I do mean nearly everything.  Not just a procedurally generated map, but also procedurally generated textures, vertex data, animations, etc.

I'd make an ecosystem from the ground up. The entire food chain, migrations, seasons. No combat. Id have players as aliens exploring a new world. Non gendered. Non humanoid. The goal is to understand how this new world works and create ways to celebrate its indigenous lifeforms.

Such game was made to be honest, but i was dissapointed a little. Because players could also build defences, when a new planet/asteroid/something was discovered they simply rigged it with defences and made bases, just to own the planet and no one to have the best positions.

Basically unless you find your own planet someone far from the game start, and rig it up to anihilate anything that gets even close, with space stations and land stations and what not, there is no other way to explore planets.

Also i think the game had a really small player base, and not many played it.

    And then.... kill them?

All joking aside - I'd play this in a heartbeat

A breeding system :D Creating new live forms, and what not. But i dont like the No Combat part. I prefer when there is always a good and evil side.

And there should be more than one planet. Few planets so we can travel between them. And planets with no life at all, where we can bring life from other planets and cross breed.

But yeah, i repeat again, there are always dangers. Dangerous animals. if we can fight they will just kill us. There should be a way for us to kill those pesky animals. And the consequences that if we destroy them fully, there will be no more of the species.

For that part the planets should be big, with thousends of secret places and underground caverns and what not, so we can constanly discover new species and cross breed.

And ways to make dangerous mutant animals to attack any city that we can get to and pronounce war against the entire world, and total planetary anihilation of every single player by any means necesery.

Probably would not make a game. CAMELOT UNCHAINED is the game I'm waiting for.

If i had the money i would do a remake of Star Wars Galaxie JTL imagewith a new motor that can run the game in high resulution etc and the story that continue where it end, when the game was put down for the Bigest disapointment Star Wars the old republic and continue with the new storyline of upcoming Star Wars movies!

I would be like a child on christmas when a game developer shouted, hey guys, girls that played SWG JTL gues what we are working on SWG 2 a player driven sandbox !

Ohh man that would be awsome!

I cryed a bit when SOE anosed the had a game that would be something for us that played SWG and it was a Zombie game!

i was so disapointed on that time, but i like the H1Z1 game but it aint Star Wars Galaxie!

Emo Imperial Jedi on Farstar EUimage

My friend if i would have 100 mill, i would prove that me a nonamer would make the best ever made.

First of all  It would be a bit similar to lineage 2 vanilla when it comes to farm items where all items drop on the floor and it would be huge open world actually it would be an alien planet where unfortunately!!  a ....... ( won't tell the whole story someone might steal it)

There would be 0 quest! but there would be  different problems for everyone that need's to fix in order to survive and level up.  A player would have to scavange a lot and kill of mobs to find space ship parts. Ofc you could just steal from other players or join up with friend and kill and steal.  It would be  free of choise game. Secondly there would be lot's of races, talents and skills. Imagine this jsut for fun a guild of 10 ppl decided instead of building a space ship tehy instead choose to build up tank size robot and go and attack another factory where another guild is building up space ships. Why to build up a space ship ? ... ;) won't tell you but it would be crucial in sort of mid end game.

It would be a game for ppl who like solo but also for party, pvp, pve.  There would be ofc canon ball classes and tank classes. A succesfull pvp party would have to use all to win. Enginers as well.

It would be 18 + and fuck the incomes!!!  Everybody would finally play a shocking mmo where in every minute you would be paranoid. I would make it so immersive that you would have to take some time off  and go out to sunshine because it would be to insane and depressive.( gore blood, pvp, darkness , paranoid, intense ).

The graphics would be mature not some cartonish bullshit and no weird talking cats and no booring quest and no order just pure fucking chaos but  the fight would be funny and interactive.

Oh just to mention 1 skill : you set up traps for others and if it happens that you choose to be an alien   than you set up a trap where  you transform to a harmless creature that other player need's to hunt,  When enemy or enemys closing by a wide area of radius turns to blood liquid and you suck it up into you in the meantime all treaped enemys will get entangled and loose half of hp, than you just finish him or them off and take some items away. Some times it would be also so dark that you could see only 10 meters far.

All the bullshit included in the end like sieging in space , dominate a part in galaxy planets, ranked arenas. ANd there is no way you could mix some races, some races would be just to hostile with eachother , kill at sight! A teran base would be teran an alien would be an alien.

There could be ways of escaping danger without killing. Think ranger in swg. Mask scent, camouflage, traps, tranquilizers. I would make it so if you needed hide, meat bone, other animal resources, you could capture young or unhatched wild animals and breed them.
I also think it would be cool to study primitive tribes like day learn about some murloc type creatures, be able to morph into one, infiltrate their society. Learn their language, culture, history, know their enemies and help their cause. Take with you unique food recipes or clothing patterns or games that they like to play and share them in the main city floating above the planet.

I would make a game that is set in the time period of the old  wild west. It would be a combination of steampunk and magic. Voodoo, elemental magic. So lots of guns horse vs steam car fights with some silliness for fun.

Warhammer online with 3 factions, good animations, decent pve questing, good music and open world

  • DullahanDullahan Member EpicPosts: 4,536

I'd make an open world, "sandbox" game with both PvP and fully fleshed PvE content.  A true MMORPG with a focus on massively multiplayer gameplay, ie. grouping and small to large scale cooperative goals in a dangerous world.  Content as well as territory would serve as a continual source of competition, so not your ordinary sandbox that gets boring due to a lack of meaningful goals.  More of a choose your own adventure with no golden path or linear storyline.  Dropped and crafted item progression with a very robust crafting system including group oriented trades for massive creations like creating large ships, buildings and so forth.  Both player run cities and npc capitals.  Crafting and commerce would have the depth necessary to make it viable as a sole source of gameplay for those who choose to do it.  NPCs all on factions and a proper alignment system so your choices have consequences in a living virtual world.

That would be my rough outline at least.
