I tried out EVE about 2 years ago roughly. I thought it was terrible. Buggy as hell, barren, unpolished and boring.
I am currently using the 14 day trial offered on the EVE Website, and let me tell you. I can't decide to buy 6 months or a year of subscription time.
Holy cow this game has come a long way and is AMAZING! It's beautiful, exciting, and over-whelming with stuff to do. I've rethought my characters direction about 30 times since i've started playing, Interceptor pilot! no, Destroyer!, no, drone junkie!, no, mining!, no, etc...
Anyhow, i actually feel bad i put off re-trying this game for so long. Try not to take it out on me by pod-killing me too much

welcome to eve my friend. I started about 2 years ago and havn't stopped, i think now that the tutorial has come much farther along the learning curve isn't so detrimental, In my 2 years CCP has never made an unsatisfied customer out of me. Once you find your niche you'll be with us forever!
The tutorial has been improved by leaps and bounds and the sheer length of it shows how deep EVE is. I don't think there's a player that has seen it all or has done it all yet.

if you guys are really this indecisive (which is totally understandable) I have a tip for you.
Train your learning skills, all of them to tier 2 level 4. This is something you will want to do anyway (actually need to do). This will give you plenty of time to think about what you want to do over your career in Eve.
Granted there will be times when you'll want to put on hold your learning training to train up a skill necessary for fitting your ship, but I cant stress enough how important your learning skills are.
as a side note, examine all race ships and their strenghts and weaknesses as to how it relates in the path you've chosen. you dont need to train your own races ship skills, this is actually one of the things I regret not doing when I first created...but oh well.. now I can fly 3 different racial cruisers and 2 different battleships.
so, if yer still on the fence as to your path just train your learning skills until you decide.
