EVE Online: Imperium Declaration, Mass Warfare, Player Politics Galore

BMunchausenBMunchausen Staff WriterMMORPG.COM Staff Posts: 400

EVE Online's player-spun intrigue has taken a few new turns recently, with The Mittani getting cozy with Max Singularity and declaring the CFC the new Imperium. Top that with massive-scale space warfare, and you have "the gaming equivalent of House of Cards meets Game of Thrones." (or is that A.D.: The Bible Continues?)

image

The Mittani giving Lord Maximilian's ring some love and affection.

Yes, everyone playing EVE Online is jockeying for position, which means warfare galore. It also means rampant recruitment as the members of EVE's largest player-based corporation, Brave Collective of the HERO Coalition, squabbles amongst themselves and kick their leader to the curb.

Interested in learning more about this and other space soap-operas going on in EVE Online? Then head on over to EVE's gossip column--er, update page on the game's official website.

Wasn't that Mittani player permabanned for trying to get someone to commit suicide?

I read that he encouraged his alliance to mail the guy to do so?

Hi! Welcome to a mistake someone made three years ago and has since several times apologized for.The rest of the world has moved on. You should, too.

Kind of interesting.  Some of these people take the game way too seriously.

1, he just asked a question and it was a valid one.

2, that's a pretty big mistake. It's kind of tantamount to indirectly trying to murder someone.

    3, I'm surprised that's ok with you.

I am assuming he is a goon so just disregard him.

Mitanni was NOT banned. Basically got a slap on the wrist. It was one of CCP's biggest mistakes in my opinion. Guy should have been removed from fanfest on the spot, and permabanned from the game.

Some things aren't so easily forgotten. I highly question the sincerity of someone forced into apologizing, because quite frankly it was the only option left to them after getting caught and exposed to the public. It happens all the time. Anyways this just proves that eve is still a Mitanni circle jerk...what a loser.

I didn't say it was OK and I didn't say I condoned it. However, almost every last one of us has said or done something extremely stupid, whether through heat of the moment or the shield of anonymity. If the person is sorry and has learned from it, I'm willing to forgive and move on, but I'm not as binary or easily outraged as many on the internet seem, so maybe that's why my view is so shocking to some.

Hmm... 2005... Tom Cruise makes statement about Brooke Shields and post-partum depression (relatively mild statement not in the same league as encouraging harassment to suicide)... Tom Cruise immediately goes into my clueless asshat list.... he's still there...

He may have done the Scientology equivalent of confession and penance since then... I couldn't care less... he's still a world-class asshat.

Mittens wasn't banned. He had to step down from the CSM, which is the elected player group that represents the players wishes to CCP. He actually tried to back out of leaving the CSM but was helped to do the right thing.

Yes, everyone makes such mistakes, kids do things like that, it's all normal.

Encouraging your alliance of players to spam a suicidal person on his ingame mail to commit suicide, well who hasn't done that in the past? Harmless ofc, I get it.

Of course he doesn't do this out in the open anymore, I get it....he is a rolemodel of mankind now...ok, forgive me my mistake, it is not as serious ofc as doxxing your members or spam local chat to crash servernodes when a battle is not going to your liking, glad Mittani doesn't do that.

But disregard my question: I was playing since 2003, I heard from this Mittani guy somewhere.....just couldn't remember from where exactly.

    Unique, yes.

I think they need to be careful though. Too much change and they could lose even more of their long term players. Players that when they drop out they lose multiple subs.

I think they have been losing steadily since late 2013.  A few bumps up at new releases...but i think the long term players are slowly dropping out.

Still doing ok...250k to 300k subs there abouts i would guess.  Still quite a drop from when they stopped putting out their sub numbers. Big changes to older games come at quite a risk. Too much and you risk an avalanche that you can not recover from easily.

A mistake is leaving your lights on in your car and running your battery down, or setting your alarm for 6pm instead of a.m.

Actively trying to get someone to kill themselves is criminal in most places.

3 years passing does not make the guy any less of a douchbag and a bad image for the game.

instead of a guess, how about something a bit more reliable, because that kind of a quote without any kind of supporting evidence,  be kind of interesting to hear the reasoning behind them losing over 300k subs after all, seeing as you have pegged the playerbase at near 50 percent less than last reported.image

Well in all fairness, might not be a bad guess as CCP has stopped reporting the numbers, always a good indicator they are nothing to bee proud about.

Also concurrent online on Sundays is around 40k or so, well below the 60s of a year or so ago.

Eve-Offline has some interesting stats. Unlike sub guessing, the client does report the number of characters currently logged in.

The corp I was in was affected by the Imperium changes. Our corp was part of the renter alliance in Vale, so now we're going to joining a sov-holding ally. Personally, I'm a bit glad to see the change. While the renter alliance gave us a foothold, I've never liked the idea of renter corps.

Context is important. This was at EVE Fanfest; notice the badges people are wearing in the background?
