I've really enjoyed what they've been doing with the Marvel movies and tv shows, and the continuity they've built there. I've also enjoyed Star Wars Rebels for the most part.

So I'm not really worried about them screwing up Ep VII.

My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)

KotoR, SWTOR, and KoToR 2 might not be canon but they sure are a lot more enjoyable than Lucas episodes 1-3. (Although I did enjoy 2 and 3 in places here and there)

What annoys me about what Disney is doing is that the comics that Dark Horse did were all LA approved, start to finish. As part of their contract, they could only print approved stories. Then those stories would get the LA tag on covers. I was under the impression this meant that the stories were canon. Either way I don't care, I don't like Star Wars that much, but a few of the stories (Legacy) were pretty damn awesome and did justice to the universe. Ah well, LENS FLARE!

Honestly, "canon" is a dumb word that causes unnecessary arguments. This is all fiction; none of it is real. The only thing that matters is whether YOU enjoy it, "canon" or not.

Disney had announced several months back that most novels, comics, and video games would be considered part of the unofficial, unvisited part of Star Wars.

Disney further said that the Old Republic part of Star Wars will not be explored in any way. This means that Star Wars: The Old Republic and Knights of the Old Republic are their own stories.

Gee, guess I get news faster than both Kotaku and mmorpg.com: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/6633874#6633874

Not like that's hard to accomplish, but still pretty sad.

Would you like a Sith or Jedi flavored cookie? Neither are canon, but both are scrumptious.

Oh this may backfire. I know it is kind of old news but man....

It is a fantasy story, made up as they go.  Trying to attach any canon to the storyline is kind of ridiculous if you ask me.

Have to agree, its been argued about for a long time, about whether the EU was Canon or not, in the end it really doesn't matter, people enjoyed and in all probability, continue to enjoy the books that were in it. If anything it allows writers to continue to use their creative talents without worrying whether it fits into the rest of the Star Wars universe anymore. Same with SW;TOR, does it matter if the game isn't canon anyway, people still enjoy playing it either way. image

Canon or not, it's all just fiction. It's amazing how huge thing "canon" can be for some people, since it really does not matter, it's still just fiction made by some guys.

I'm in no way surprised by this. With Disney now owning the Star Wars franchise, they don't want to adhere to anyone of the Expanded Universe. They already have many plans to harvest as much cash from the Star Wars franchise as possible. I'm not sure if future movies, tv shows, comics, etc based on the "new universe" will be good or not. Time will tell. Will be able to form an opinion in December. And as long as they ensure Mara Jade makes it into the new universe.

Good, because the writing in SWTOR is generally awful.

In some ways (many) this is a good thing.

Namely, the Star Forge from KOTOR was way too powerful of a force.

KOTOR 2 the Sith Lord who could like devour an entire planet - way too powerful.

What else... Sun Crusher? Cool idea, the blowing up a star part, but the invincible ship? Come on...

    Starkiller? Nope.

Many example where things just go a little too far...

JJ Abrams is certainly saying/doing all the right things to give Ep VII a good shot at being really good.

Like, at the Star Wars celebration he said that Star Wars is as much of a fantasy or western as it is sci fi - so true.

Talked about making real things and shooting in real locations and making everything look real and actually used etc.

I think the look and feel of the movie is going to be SPOT on, like stepping right back into the universe George created.

It's just a question of - how good is the story? How good are the new characters, how used (and to what extent) are the classic characters, etc.
