Landmark: Claim Limits Expanding After Server Wipe

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

With significant changes coming to player achievements/progression and to crafting, Landmark servers will be wiped in the near future to accommodate new systems and overhauled features. The latest news from Daybreak concerns claim limits and how they will be changing once the wipe / update goes live.

New players coming to Landmark after the wipe will be granted one root claim and three attachment claims. Current players will be given the same but will be granted an additional root claim expansion slot and five attachment claim expansion slots. In essence, nothing here changes for existing players.

Of note, however, is the way that players will be able to exponentially expand root and attachment claims via the Marketplace.

When you purchase a Root Claim Expansion Slot or an Attachment Claim Expansion Slot, you’ll get an item that you can consume to increase your maximum number of that particular type of claim (and also receive a corresponding claim flag to go with it). These items will also be tradable in case you want to surprise a friend with a gift.

The total number of claims you can have including all possible expansions are:

  • Maximum number of root claims: 8

  • Maximum number of attachment claims: 24

Pricing has yet to be determined.

Read more, and the community reaction, on the Landmark forum.

It's too bad Landmark didn't have one large world, instead it has all these segmented instances with artificial squares as boundaries.  It just looks ridiculous.  Each instance is going to look even smaller than it already is with this change.

Extremely vague on all the information.

Can these be joined with no exceptions?

How about outward size,if they can only be stacked upwards or perhaps downwards then they are going to make a ton more money off of what is basically the same size plot.It is the same theory as housing in real life, you can sell a 5000 sq foot house but it is all stories and not outward size.Where as a 2500sq  foot house could actually take up more space.

I have seen nothing but non relenting greed of late from SOE,so i do not think there is any positive from this for the gamer's ,only for adding more plots in the same space. They would need to tell players if they are going to increase the size of islands or is it just going to be more instances.Usually if not much information is released, there is a reason, they want to keep the real details a secret.

Nothing really new about a game monetizing in-game abilities, capabilities and assets.  Think of this as buying extra bank or inventory slots.

What I'm curious about is if future 'build' competitions will require more than the basic claims in order to compete.  Will the amount paid into the cash shop be any kind of factor when it comes time for a 'build Erudin' or a 'build Kaladim' contest?  It will be interesting to see if the developers can resist the urge to 'like' larger models rather than those structures that might be built on small claims.  I would like to think a design contest should be judged on merit and skill, not the number of colored pencils the artist owns.

I'm not overly convinced that the community building effort will work for EQ:N.  It could be good, it could be a lot of extra work for the development staff's art team to clean up the community efforts.  I really don't know.  However, I am relatively certain that I don't want to see a version of EQ:N made by the people that paid the most for that 'privilege'.

If that turns out to be the case, maybe they will adapt the motto 'made by whales, for whales'.  I probably won't charge them too much for using that idea.

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

SOE is gone, Daybreak games now owns the EQ franchise.  It was sorta a big deal.

Long awaited update, since there has been no real updates for some time, many people have taken a break. Also all the people who said "I just cant play knowing its going to be a wipe" and stopped playing (despite LM being a closed Beta with wipes) will of course be back? It will be interesting to see how many people who comes back, so far I think most of the changes made are good.

Had a lot of hopes this would be an evolutionary sandbox game. They keep gutting more features and just focus on the building aspect. Not going to last very long as a game just focused on building with it's shoddy building tools. No doubt it will be a ghost town again a month after this next update.

    Blah blah whine blah

Just glad they are still developing it furyher instead of cutting it. Soe might have been slackish but they were gamets who yried to make games for gamrrs...not just money hrsbs.

The gaming industry is killing itself. When you start talking and selling a game 4 or 5 years before its release, something is really really wrong.

I went from excitement when they first announced it to "hey, so this game still exists?"

I have the feeling it is old already.

Are you sure they have not been cutting in the game?

You never know that untill a ex dev comes forward or you hear the REAL story after a game has died.

Remember, current devs are bound to a NDA contract so they will always express the voice of the company.

About SOE not just being greedy at the expense of gamers?

We must have a different SOE in mind I guess. They practically buried every MMo they hosted and are the main subject in Chap 1: "how not to treat your customers and manage a MMO."

"going into arguments with idiots is a lost cause, it requires you to stoop down to their level and you can't win"

OR they have been busy actually working on the games instead of just hyping them. But to believe that we have to assume that DBG and their owners are capable of doing smart business decisions, and with the hyper negativity on this site thats way to much to ask of people.

That change is just a way for DBG to earn more money by selling claims. A change which adds no content and costs no development resources to do.
