    Good to know.

So you're more of a faith-based kind of guy?

...how does one have a discussion with someone who flat out says that facts don't concern them...lol

So you think Skyrim sold "way" over 20 million copies on PC? I think I will just chuckle and move on.

You can chuckle and move on but it's true.

Todd Howard himself said, “Skyrim did better than we’ve ever done on PC by a large, large number. And that’s where the mods are. That feeds the game for a long time."

    http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/02/18/apparently-we-wont-hear-about-fallout-4-for-a-while/

Initially consoles had stronger sales but they soon tapered off and PC overtook it by a large margin. Mostly thanks to Steam sales and the like but also because people saw what mods could do. How much better it could make the game look, how much it could even change the whole experience. Those 20 million units you're referring to were physical copies of the game, 20-25% of which were PC. So that's close to 5 million physical copies and then you have all the digital sales that those numbers don't take into account and that number increases exponentially. So yes, it sold more than the consoles.

I think I will just chuckle and move on now. lol

The best estimate of Steam Skyrim sales comes form a 2014 Ars Technica article and they put it at 5.9 mil. That's from around the same time Bethesda announce the 20 mil number for Skyrim.

So... the best sources have Skyrim Steam with at 30% share... respectable but hardly a "way more" number.

    Ignore him...hes misinterpreting his "source".

Have they said anything about adding an option to turn it off? It better be there.

Every game that has voice chat lets you mute people or turn off completely voice chat. It would be extremely silly for ZoS not to have that option.

I also turn that option off in every game and only turn it on when talking with specific people. With that said, im glad its going to be there so i dont have to plug a keyboard to my ps4 to speak with my guild or friends. They need to implement voice chat pretty well (party based, guild based, instanced based, whatever)

I didn't try it, but I think you can mute individual people, or you hit Option button, square for Voice chat and move your self from the "Local chat" to "Group chat" , or "Guild Chat" there is also a sub channel in Guild chat for Officers, i'm sure the ability is there for them to divide it up more, or give us the option to build custom channels in guild, just no idea if they will.

    Not so nice guy!

Whilst the beta was indeed fun I found only having 6 ability's to use at any given time a huge let down, neverwinter on console allows for at least 10 and I find is a lot more fun despite eso's superior graphics and the annoying constant mid screen messages on neverwinter proclaiming who got what out of which premium box which I really hope eso won't follow with the crown store. But if anything neverwinter got there first and have pulled off the first console mmo (on xbox at least)

    That becomes 12 @ level 15.

I found that useful in LotRO when I grouped a lot.

I wouldn't even mind if they added that as an optional DLC and charged for it since players have to pay something play on the console in addition to the PC.

They've confirmed that they're working on controller support for PC:  http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/168236/proof-pc-controller-support-is-coming-to-pc/p1

It didn't, but it serves as an excuse to promote the game with an air of impartiality but of course that is a lie. The console roll-out was given an overly upbeat article a few days ago, this is simply the follow on paid advertising.

Pretty much this.  In addition to potentially alienating women.  I think most people would turn it off, which will leave the teenage boys to enact every stereotype there is for one brave enough to leave it on or to go into a dungeon with it.  Sad state of affairs that young men will do these kinds of things, especially since the female gaming population has become roughly 40% of total gamers nowadays.

Not sure we are mature enough as a community to handle this yet.  MMORPG gamers on the computers might be (due to gamers of all genders being present in vast amounts over the years and franchises), but I've fears for how many teenage console players there are, especially considering the MMORPG genre doesn't have a huge presence there.

That is to say in general, and not to insult console players who prefer such and act like adults.

This is actually a really handy feature to be able to communicate quickly with someone to avoid getting into trouble or losing party members when roaming or even to ensure everyone got the update for the quest chain.

A simple ignore feature for specific people would solve the issue. Also don't just stand around a congested public area and complain about the few idiots you always get in those specific areas. Go out and do something and you'll leave those fools behind at the congested area trying to get attention.

I also understand that women dislike talking and revealing that they are not male due to the attention and harrasment it can bring from some idiots. But i always suggest if you're shy or don't want to reveal that you're a female, leave voice chat on so you can hear and just mute/disconnect your mic. At least that way you can follow directions quickly and have an idea of what the plan is for your party.

More than likely you'll find a good group of people to regularly play with and become comfortable enough to join the chat eventually. Then you can contribute to the direction of play instead of just having to follow all the time if you like.

Also joking about with people over the shared experience of adventuring in Tamriel is part of the whole MMORPG experience. If you're going to cut yourself off from that then perhaps Skyrim is the better choice as you don't have to contend with other peoples at all. But i know that's not what you probably want, you'd like to play with like minded people, but just can't abide by the idiots who try to ruin it for others.

I feel the same, i have had people deliberately attempt to ruin my online experience before and succeed. What i also found is that whilst some are doing it deliberately, some just are not aware of etiquette and if you politely explain some of the aspects of the game and how some actions negatively impact other players, they will modify their behaviour to be more socially acceptable. Sure some will just get a kick out of knowing they have upset someone or gone against the grain (What a rebel!) but for the most part thye people i meet are pretty cool. Some trouble makers have even ended up being good friends and turned out to be pretty good players once they had a little guidance or were simply made aware of their actions.

So i'm glad to hear there will be open voice chat, the lack of text chat was a big concern for me, seeing as it's a multiplayer game, would be hard to play without some form of communication. I just hope it's more stable than ps4 party chat :/ Which is ok most of the time, but can be pretty buggy at times also.

I also wonder how/if we can access emotes. Gotta be able to break out in a dance every now and then and say hello or thank someone and even emote anger every now and then.

If they have those sorts of user  names, I take it as a sign that I don't want to group with them.

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

Skyrim's one of those games that's rather insanely better on PC, not sure why someone would even care about another system selling more copies unless they have stock in BGS.

Good luck with turning off voice chat .... they removed text chat from the console versions of ESO so its voice chat or nothing.
  • fistormfistorm Member UncommonPosts: 868

Consoles will probably put this game at over 10 million players easy, especially now that its free to play after box price.  Who wouldn't own one as console player when the MMORPG's on consoles are only TWO so far!

Probably looking at the next WoW but with consoles.

  • fistormfistorm Member UncommonPosts: 868
I'm also curious to see what the skyrim numbers are on Steam, it just went on sale for 5 bucks.  Meaning the full numbers of PC sales should be in after that sale closes.  It was probably also used as a hype for ESO before it goes to console now.
  • macalosmacalos Member UncommonPosts: 3
I have the PC version and have been playing since beta I do like the game however it does feel like a console game I have now purchased the transfer to PS4 as I think the game will be better there.

not sure about steam sales but thanks to the modding community these many people still play it on steam.

So I take it they haven't rescinded that idiotic decision yet, huh? How long do you guys wanna bet it will take before they realize what a f*ck up that idea was and implement it? I'm gonna say within the first month after release. Maybe two.

PC players and console players are playing separately if I'm not mistaken. So all these console players are not going to help the PC player base . Are they going to abandon the PC base in favour of the more popular console ones  image

The console market is still a huge untapped market so it might work but I have a feeling that the first truly successful console MMO will have a rather different combat system, something with combos like Soul Calibur instead of what we have on PCs.

Then again, I might be wrong. FPS games aren't that much different on consoles after all and they are huge today. A game like HALO can change everything.

Still, I don't think multi platform games is the right way here. A console MMO needs to be made for console players to really hit it off (in my opinion). And being rather different from regular MMOs might not be a weakness, the genre is about to change some way or the other.

Soul Calibur online but with the camera MMO style is something I think would sell great. :) Maybe with a bit more tomb raider style in dungeons than MMOs tend to have.

Uhm, if the game outsells PC on console so: yes. Then they will focus on their core market of course, as any other company would.

But PC players still would get some ups, like expansions and new content even if it will be more focused on making the console players happy than Pc players.

It'll be interesting to see how they handle new content development after the console versions go live.

Currently, everything other than the incremental weekly tweaks and bug fixes goes through the PC test server for at least a couple of weeks before going live. I could be wrong but I can't see them maintaining separate PC, XB1 ans PS4 test servers... so the PC will get things first by default.

It still could be something developed to cater to the console players more. But unlike many here, I don't consider console players to be a separate sub-human species :) Younger? Sure... probably... but they're all waiting for the Witcher 3 just like we are.

I'm just looking at it in terms of overall success or not: if the console sales do well, they get more revenues and consequently have more R&D cash to play with... and then we all win.

Is there going to be an updated hard copy of the PC version? I don't want to download the massive install with my wifi. I take it the update to the original disc is like a full install now?

Lol so now even when a game launches on PC and doesn't even show up as a demo for consoles for almost a year people still claim it was "designed for consoles"...

Yes. It says "Tamriel Unlimited" on the box and it's light colored. Depending on where you buy it, there's still a mix of old and new box stock for sale. So look carefully for it to be printed right on the box.

    Dear Christina,

Let me clear this up, how many consoles have a mouse keyboard attached?  Not many.  That should immediately clear up your confusion.   The PC version will remain the definitive version for that very reason.  Controllers just don't translate very well when it comes to MMO's.

Oh and console players just don't tend to stick around much on any one game, they are always moving on to the next hot game.
