sandbox open-world pvp mmorpg

mihnea97mihnea97 Member UncommonPosts: 6

Right, so I'm looking for a sandbox mmorpg with open-world pvp but no permanent death or looting.

Things I'm looking for:

- open world pvp, preferably even in cities, which shouldn't be made in instances - I do not enjoy battlegrounds or arenas, pvp has to be everywhere

- dungeons and raiding (pve)

- lots of professions

- social activities (marriage, being a constable, training*)

- complex/ambiguous skills system (yes, I like that)

- emphasis on guilds (guild wars / guild territory / guild wars over territory)

- sandbox feeling, im looking for a game which gives you that feeling that you don't exactly know what you're supposed to do, so you just do random stuff)

Most of these things hint at my favourite game, Age of Wushu. However, I consider that game unplayable because of pay to win and critically low population. I have, however, played that game for over an year and enjoyed it a lot. I've never seen pay to win destroy a game in such a way. It's a shame that snail is doing such a terrible job, the game is amazing. The recommendations don't have to be free to play, I am ok with subscriptions or buy to play. Thanks.

Concurr, for a fantasy based mmorpg with all of those features, i'd recommend UO hands down. Not official server though.

If you can look past fantasy i'd recommend EV E

Well, you have two options - If you like space then EvE Online or if you like fantasy then Ultima Online. Nothing else with open world does exists.

So if you notice that I'm no longer answering your nonsense, stop trying... because you just joined my block list.

Since you are already a long time player of Age of Wushu I would suggest you stick around a bit longer at least until you experienced the upcoming expansion "Warrior's Journey" before you leave.

While there's no remedy to AoW's Pay-to-Win nature at its core image the expansion at least bring the total explorable terrain of AoW to several times of the current "old world" in the form of new "wilderness" lands.

The "new lands" are designed for low density population and exploration. Essentially you go into a expedition and survival mode where you are protected from other players not in enemy list but very harsh death penalty (drop loot is free to all to pick up).  So most players enter an expendition with minimal or disposable gear and just pick up new gears from the new lands.

I would say try Archeage out, it looks good, combat is fun and there is quite alot of character custimization and builds. There is open world pvp but only in higher lvl maps, lvl 30+

It has a pretty nice sandbox feel, you can build a house, do trade runs with resource packs over the sea or on you donkey or wahon, you can have a farm with animals/trees etc. which are all very useful.

You can also fish, build boats, become a pirate, own a guild castle and seige other peoples castles etc. There is alot to do in this game its pretty much up to you to decide how you want to play it.

There is alot of negativity about this game, but its not because the game is bad, its because people were so hyped about the game and sadly games never live up to the hype.

Very soon people will be bad mouthing all the new hyped games that are coming out and then there will be new hyped games and the cycle just continues.

Archeage is ftp, and there is an option of subbing which allows you to own land and other very useful perks. There are downsides to this game but most arnt as bad as people make them out to be, if you do try it out make sure to join an active server, like Kyprosa on EU or Ollo on NA.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions guys. Although the graphics look really terrible, I am going to give ultima online a try, it has a lot of very good feedback and I can overlook bad graphics if the game is enjoyable enough. I am also going to try Archeage online and I really hope I will enjoy it, as it looks like one of the few newer sandbox games. I have read a lot of bad feedback about it, but then again I have never seen a game with more negative feedback than age of wushu, and I consider it a work of art (strictly the game, not the way it's maintained by Snail :P). I've already tried playing eve for a few months and I did enjoy it, but not as much as I thought I would. The open world pvp, "professions" and sandbox feeling are all there, but I just can't enjoy a game with spaceships as much as I enjoy having and controlling my own character in a game with a medieval environment.

Thanks again for your recommendations guys, and keep them coming, I do hope there are other mmorpgs out there that fit with my preferences :D

Unfortunately two awful options....UO has the worst graphics of any MMO hands down and Eve has to be the most boring game ever made and they want you to pay a monthly on top of that....I've come to the conclussion that this combination is just not feasible in a MMORPG......OP maybe take a look at some of the shooters to find what you're looking for?
