The next big update to Elite: Dangerous is called "Powerplay". The team has announced that the beta for Powerplay will begin on May 20th which is big news considering the long list of enhancements to the game will be incoming.
Players will be able to align with one of three intergalactic powers in an effort to dominate and control space. Once aligned, players will be able to help accomplish group goals, earn reputation and to advance the shared cause.
Power organizations may be more warlike or more pacifistic. Players can opt for the one that best suits their style and participation is fully optional via a special tab on the galaxy map. The map will further give information about the balance of control overall and which Power is currently exerting the most influence on human controlled space.
Lastly, Mac users can rejoice with Elite: Dangerous wrapping up the beta and moving into full release.

Unfortunately that's been my experience with Elite. The fundamentals are quite good, but there's really no meaningful gameplay. Sadly I don't see anything really in Powerplay that will change that overall, just the hope that it will lay the foundation for meaningful gameplay in future iterations. We shall see...
LOVED the original game on my C64 in the 80s, and love the game now. But it still feels like a empty game, new players get the impression that there is not much else to do then hop traderoutes all day long untill they can go hunt for bounties.
Plus the option for soloplay killed the game for me. It should have been multiplay only from start.
Players would just have to find quiet systems/routes and learn to dodge pirates.
Not that hard.
Hope they patch some new better content in soon with this patch.
"going into arguments with idiots is a lost cause, it requires you to stoop down to their level and you can't win"
This is going to be an awesome update to the game, how many games have player influenced factions/power and faction warfare, where factions can rise and fall.
There will be 10 factions that players can support and fight against to begin with, and a further 10 factions can rise from player influence, missions are getting revamped, persistent NPC's are being introduced. The game is really getting better and better with each update, it reminds me of what EvE was like when it was released, and best of all you don't have to pay a subscription.
Can't wait!
Bad thing is the solo play mode that is around.
It should have been open play. Solo has no risk.

I would play open if only the servers was'nt so laggy.
Also this mornig I waited 3 hours for an autentication code and still no email, really at the moment Elite not worth the cost,I am still on time to get refunded by pay pal and every day I gettin more and more the temptation to open a dispute and get my money back.
it's interesting how experiences vary. I get some stutter when there's a lot of people in the system but I never get any lag.

Solo is fine, it's not like people get good at PvP playing in solo. They're still pvp newbs when they join open regardless of how many credits they may have. Besides it's not like you can't fly to some isolated backwater system and do all your trades/whatnot in that region avoiding all risk.
Lol if you say so

Sway all day, butterfly flaps all the way!
When you start charging for the game it is RELEASED. Beta is testing prior to release so you have not been in beta for quite some time.
Kind of irked at MMORPG not calling developers on this since it is obvious to anyone.
Not sure, the last beta on the last big patch was for the wings beta update. That was for BETA backers only as free to access beta. If you were not beta backer you had to pay to get into the wings beta.
Have not heard yet if that policy of beta backers only for free is still in effect or not for this one. Was not a beta backer and was no way i would pay extra to help them test new updates:)
There was an idea bandied around about non-beta backers paying a small amount to get access but it never came to anything, it certainly wasn't implemented.
The only people who have access to the testing phase are alpha and beta backers, the test typically only runs for a week .
I play on a really bad connection and I've only ever had problems with lag like once or twice.
Also three hours for an authentication code? I don't think that's possible... the request would have timed out
It's never taken me more than a few minutes and I've needed one dozens of times since beta.
..Cake..
