New to MMORPG

So the reason I joined this forum was that I would really like to get into MMORPG's and play online with other people.

I would like to play something that is fantasy based, is free to play and doesnt take up that much space on my laptop.

I tried playing Neverwinter but it kept on crashing so I deleted it.

I would really appreciate any suggestions that you could come up with.

Thanks :)

I guess it depends on what you consider "takes up that much space".  Most MMOs from the past several years range around the 20-30 gig range.  Maybe a browser game such as RuneScape which would practically take up hardly anything at all on your laptop.

IMHO A decent intro into this genre would be LOTRO.

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

You can download and play this for an hour+  while waiting to download any of those other 20GB+ games :)

Did you read his post , or just see another oppurtunity to promote Trove .. ( FFS you go into every thread no matter what its about , and say " hey try Trove " )

Anyhow he said a fantasy based game ... Trove isnt last i checked ...

Someone suggested Runescape op .. that is a good idea to start out in that wont tax your laptop and is a everything else you asked for .. Also Eldevin meets those requirements..LoTro also was suggested which would be great if your laptop can run it ..

      good Luck op

For a new player coming to MMOs, I'd suggest starting out with World of Warcraft. It's the most popular MMO because it offers overall the best package. It takes a lot of hard disk space and is only free up to level 20 though.

If you need the game to be free and take only a little hard disk space, then your options are much more limited. Best options would probably be Trove or Runescape.

It's a bit older game, but since you chose to try Neverwinter as your first MMO, maybe you'd like to test out Dungeons & Dragons Online. It's F2P, but it takes a lot of hard disk space.

    Trove is a fantasy game.

You're now confusing the game's setting (in Trove's case it's a fantasy world) with game mechanics.

Something that takes up very little space (it's a browser game) and should work is Drakensang Online.  More of a 'run around attacking everything you see' type of game but it can be fun ..... and free.

Has a plot, quests and last I looked plenty of players so it might work for you.

Now just to be fair it's not in the same 'MMORPG' category as DDO, LotRO or WOW etc.... but some of the small games can be just as fun.

    SWG (pre-cu) - AoC (pre-f2p) - PotBS (pre-boarder) - DDO - LotRO (pre-f2p) - STO (pre-f2p) - GnH (beta tester) - SWTOR - Neverwinter

OP is the laptop decent spec (particularly graphics)? If not an older less demanding game might be in order. Lots of great choices for someone new to the genre. There is also a looking for game forum section where I'm sure you'll find people's views on various games.

The parent game; Drakensang, is Germany's version of D&D and there were a couple SPG's based on it which is how I found the online version.

YES this^, the absolute best browser game on the market. If you like diablo, this will be a gem to you. It is free, but it will not hurt to throw some money into it every now and again. This is my go to browser game, plain and simple.
