[Column] General: My 2015 Year To Date MMOG Power Rankings

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Does anyone actually know how many MMOGs are out there now? I certainly don't. Indeed, the category has grown so much that I can no longer even estimate the total number with any real confidence. Many are, of course, not very prominent. Others are a lot more visible and fare far better in terms of attracting and holding our attention. This is my completely personal, subjective ranking of the titles that have had the most interest value for me so far this year.

I agree with 3 out of 10 being on the list and I don't even play those three.

  • Nemesis7884Nemesis7884 Member UncommonPosts: 1,023

i would like top 10 lists but quantifyable (is that a word?) - like top ten:

    amounts of players

    grossing

    most frequent updates

    increasing players

    decreasing players

    most area to explore

    most cut scenes

    most pvp players

most players in a certain age range

    highest income through cash shop

etc. etc. such things i'd be interested in...

Absolutely True AJ. how this rates as a journalistic article is beyond me. Come on MMORPG, is this really the best you have?  It doesn't even rate as a mediocre article.

Is it a Troll post? It look more a very personal point of view base on a limited knowledge of historical MMO. if its an 2015 power ranking, that mean the best MMO that are on the market as we speak.

I agree. The fact that Wildstar is so high (Which is widely known as a DYING MMORPG at this moment) made me laugh at this post.

FFXIV, GW2, and even games like Rift are doing VERY well.

ArcheAge, Eve Online, Lord of the Ring Online, Star Wars the Old Republic, GW2, Final Fantasy should be at least mentionned since they are pretty popular at the moment.  APB could be listed there too.

    If we talk about best MMO in history that is a very opinion based and vastly depend on the timeline that you try it, the list of my best MMO that i played so far;

    Ultima Online

    EverQuest

    Eve Online

    World of Warcraft

    Star Wars the old Republic

WarZ (Since H1Z1 is in the list)

but there is a ton of MMO that i didnt played, or liked that much but deserve to be there ( Everquest 2, Asheron Call, Planetside, Dark age of Camelot )

    The one that I pay close attention are;

Crowfall, Albion Online, Shroud of the Avatar and Pathfinder Online.

As far as I can see, Wildstar is a dead game walking.  It doesn't help that Carbine picked NCsoft as their publisher.  Given that NCsoft has already axed around 9 western games, I suspect its only a matter of time.  If they make it to this time next year, I'll be quite surprised.

As for Star Citizen, they are currently over $81 million and climbing.  They have finished two phases of the game and are working on the rest.  The site has a GREAT deal of status information available for those who are willing to look...

This is Chris Roberts. The chance that its some hoax, is about the same as good old Smed turning over a new leaf...  ^^

Why the rage? Mr Aihoshi's "work" was always... special.

What a bad writer! He got paid for this? It's one thing to write an opinion piece on a topic but maybe next time you should STICK TO YOUR TOPIC. MMOG's in 2015 yet you named games that don't even have a playable demo yet and release date of 2017(Crowfall) or a complete game (Star Citizen).

And really TESO really turned you on that much after the blunder it was that it deserved the #1 spot on your PERSONAL list? Dude you either missed out on too many MMO's or are one heck of a fan boy writing for a web site that writes about multitudes of MMO's every year.

My personal list, in no special order.  I could add more to this list but all these games I have played for awhile.

FFXIV - Best come back MMO

WoW - Best long standing MMO

GW2 - Most flexible MMO, decent underwater combat, dynamic events that scale

TSW- Best atmosphere in an MMO

ESO - Stunning graphics and decent questing Levels 1 to 50 (I don't play beyond V1)

SWTOR - Good story lines, decent graphics, Star Wars

SWG - Most innovative (Not running but I threw it in cause I liked it a lot).

Eve Online - Great space MMO, great grahics

Ultima Online -  One of the longest running MMO's, helped shape the field

L2 - Decent open world PvP and I don't normally PvP

Aion - Decent questing, decent graphics and combat, you got wings and could fly, decent PvP

The Secret World and Guild Wars 2 are still good mmo's to play.
  • ThaneThane Member EpicPosts: 3,534

so you think wow is the worst mmo in that list? and you actually name 2 non released mmos in that list?????

maybe try to be sober before you start your next post :)

seriously. turn that list around and you might make a pair of shoes out of it. this way? i can just laugh h1z1 better than WoW? awww. now that's cute, i will quote you on it once the bitching started :)

Boy this article really brought out the trolls.  The laughable part is, they attempt to call the writer a troll when it is obvious who the troll is.  By the way trolls, if the game charges you to play it is released despite what the studio may say.   If you can't figure that out,  I guess you will just continue to troll away.

No one's MMO list is going to match what others like, there are just too many of them.  This is a discussion forum and everyone is entitled to their opinion.  I certainly don't agree with everything on his list, but then just my opinion.

I will say this about H1Z1.  Smedley tried to entice the zombie slayers with his new game.  I complete agree, it released in January.  I think the major problem with a game like this, you get extremely bored just killing zombies.  Despite Smedley's claims, that is just about all the game offers right now.  It will need some huge changes down the road to become successful.

Am i wrong in saying most of those aren't MMOs or have yet to release. Also you listed a game that no longer exists last time i checked...

However i will most certainly look into Elder Scrolls Online thanks for that.

    Playing: Nothing

    Looking forward to: Nothing

a couple of those games are not even close to games yet,so comes off more as marketing.

WS as number 2,that seems a very big stretch since that concept had already been done better and in case of ffxiv looking a ton better doing it.he says ws did not get the visiility...lmao itgot tons right here on this site more so hthan it deserved, similiar to Crowfall being over marketed here.

to each their own of course, but to me any game claiming to be a mmo but plays like a single player game is not a mmo.also you are not role playing if you have no role and are just following a linear path.
