It hasn't been about WoW for a long time now. While WoW is still one of the strongest western titles to date, we also have a lot of other established titles in several subgenres. The reason why the genre isn't evolving is that MMOs of today are released in a half-baked state in paid alphas.

Developers aren't realizing that their games get one chance of success and if the first impression isn`t good enough, they are losing a lot of their potential playerbase. When the crowdfunding/vaporware madness finally stops and developers start to release at least decent games instead of a dozen bullshit-cashgrabs, the genre surely will evolve.

Your anti WoW crusade is going to keep getting your threads locked. I'd be surprised if WoW dies in 2 years but I'd also be surprised if it's numbers don't keep going down in the long term. The popularity or lack of popularity of WoW though has no bearing for those of us who enjoy something different. There are enough of us to warrant our own games being developed.

Die in 2 years, maybe drop to under 5M, but die, not likely.

But that has nothing to do with whether new games that we (meaning I) will enjoy being made, it's a non factor really IMO.

Wow wont die in 2 years, it might possibly hit the million marker then but it certainly wont die yet.

The reason so few good MMOs have come out the last 5 years is not Wow anymore though, it is rather the opposite, Wow is still as large as it is because there have been far too few good games.

The thing it takes for the genre to evolve is a well made fun game that is different enough from all other MMOs to attract a large number of either new players or old players that have given up on the genre.

There have been a few good games but none of them have had Wows mass appeal while the games who had the potintial usually mess up by releasing a buggy mess.

A few games have been really good but lack the mass appeal (TSW comes to mind even though it partly failed because of the buggy mess at launch thing as well).

Blaming Wow for the genre doesn't work anymore, people have generally stopped to copy it since some years back. It is more the problem that the publishers seems uninterested in new MMO ideas so almost all games in the making now are kickstarters or small indie games.

The genre will come back, the potential is far too great for it to die but it might take a while.

"After WoW dies in 2 years..."

Right there this kind of assumption is quite ridiculous!

lol 2 years? It's the single most popular MMO on the market. Though it has lost about 3 million subs since 2008 when the economy almost crashed and burned, there is nothing on the horizon that will cause it to lose more other than people becoming bored with the game or the developers suddenly deciding to shut it down because its old and they won't do that so long as it continues to make money for them.

Two years is extremely pessimistic . I think the game will last at LEAST another five years, if not more.

And I can't stand the game.

Guess this is an end of the world  poll in some way right?

Since that is the only way this ridiculous poll would be true, Wow dead in 2 years :P

People insisting on blaming one company and game for their own issues, is getting quite old.

If a game, no matter how big or small, prevents you from "enjoying" this hobby...then maybe that should tell you that this might not be the hobby for you.

Try to remember why you started playing games, or hell, just PLAYING, in the first place. To have FUN.  If it isn't fun do something else...

Wow will not die in 2 years.  The population may continue to drop, but it won't die.  Just because you don't like that kind of game play, doesn't mean it's bad.  It's just not your cup of tea.  Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

WOW will take a lot longer than 2 years to die off, I say this as someone who absolutely HATES the game but can realize it has and will continue to have a stranglehold on the population for some time to come. Even if WOW continued to bleed players, and released nothing new, it would take 2-4 years to die, and we all know it would go Free to Pay before that happened, so it would retain players longer. Best guess is it will die off in 4-6 years, but that is still only a wild guess.

To find an intelligent person in a PUG is not that rare, but to find a PUG made up of "all" intelligent people is one of the rarest phenomenons in the known universe.

I don't understand why posters who put a pole looking for results and puts a random stupid option like "you smell like cabbage". Of course people will troll and choose that option. Op you're not doing your self any favors.

As as regards to your topic, i am unsure how to precieve the future if wow does die. I think it will allow more creative freedom but it could also allow investors to hold back as well on that creative freedom. It could go either way.

The people of that caliber are all wow players. By doing that I can get them to not vote "No."
