Go back to the WoW forums and spew that nonsense. Just because Mcdonalds sells a billion burgers a year doesn't make their food good for you, and just because WoW has millions of subscribers doesn't mean their game isn't a cartoony, over-simplified yawn-fest. How about trying the free trial and then tell me how quality WoW is, unless your computer is too sucky and that's why you play WoW.
LoL you tell em man, i been trying to, some of these people just drank way too much of the SOE kool-aid...
First of all, you stole that saying from someone and used it in the SAME thread that you stole it from and now you use it way too much. Get an original comment. Second of all, I thought you might be an ok person as you are looking forward to Vanguard in such a big way, but I now see you are just a mindless hater trolling the EQ2 forums over and over bashing it and repeating the same B.S. every time.

I may be a little off here, but I really don't view WoW and EQ2 as rivals. Sure they are both MMOs, but the majority of people who like WoW would not like EQ2 by default. Its kinda like the whole 'Elvis or The Beatles' thing.
I always say - WoW is welcome to keep their population demographic - it keeps them out of the real MMOs

First off, you must not have a real good computer, because WoW's graphics can't even touch EQ 2's. They're like, 2 completely different universes. One real, one cartoon.
Second, you can't start off as a Ranger. You can't even use a ranged weapon within the first half hour. You have to be at least, what, level 10 and a citizen in Queynos or Freeport to even touch a ranged weapon.
Third, there are NUMEROUS custom UI's to chose from

However, is the ugly duck the game that will kill everything in its path? right now while wow is getting flamed left and right, and EQ2 finally gets its pvp along with its second expansion - is it EQ2s turn to shine? Soon the last juices of SWG will be gone... EQ1 is getting really old and planetside is going free. Is SOE betting everyone on this? are they really that made at blizz, webzen and NCsoft?
Depends on your definition of "champion". According to your post above a champion among MMORPGs will "kill" everything in it's path. By that I assume you mean it will out-sell all other titles on the market and draw players away from all other games.
The current champion, by that definition is WoW. Before WoW, EQ ruled in the US, and EU, but Lineage 1 and 2 were champions of the far east market; you might say they shared the title. But WoW has successfully conquered BOTH markets and even broken into new ones.
You can argue why this is, how long it will last, how soon the decline will begin, but at present WoW continues to grow. With PvP we will see how many US and EU players get drawn into EQ2 from WoW, and other games, but I don't see it impacting the far east, even though, ironically, SOE is basically SONY, a far east company.
If your talking about quality of game play; well, then that is purely subjective, and naming a champion is pointlesss. EQ2 and WoW have lead the way for the next wave of mmos, by providing a vast range of content, quests, areas, items, mobs, crafting and so on. The days of doing little else but camp or grind XP, are long over.
Niche games, those that seem to appeal only to a certain type of player (such as Horizons with it's craft centric gameplay) are not financially viable. Each new title will probably appeal to a certain section of the market, but not ALL, (or almost all like WoW) but will still need to have a fairly broad appeal to be a success. Sigil have already admitted they are aiming at 500k subs, over 5 years or more, rather than 5 mil over 1. DDO and LOTR, DnL and other new titles will have there select fanbases, but I don't see any overtaking WoW, without WoW itself rapidly falling apart.
Of all the present/future titles you cannot claim one to be BETTER than the rest, that's purely a subjective decision. So the champion must be the most successful, regardless of what you think of it. At preseent the champ is WoW, like it or not, and probably will be for some time to come.
Will EQ2 deliver a knockout blow to WoW? I don't think so.
I play EQ2 and WoW and must admit i've gotten much more satisfaction from EQ2. The game is just much more realistic where WoW is an obvious grind machine, EQ2 is much smoother.
Plus you can't beat those gorgeous visuals , if you have the pc to run it that is.
I find it funny that SOE is already sending mails to penny-arcade and joystic about the opinions those sites published about EQ2.

Lots of good stuff for the SOE/EQ2 trolls to talk about, eh Kem0?
EQ2 is the best fantasy MMORPG out there tied with DAoC and they know it. That's why they are offering the 30 day free trial. Let people try it for themselves instead of listening to trolls.
Ok, I am tired of people that down one game because of it's relation to another game because of the creator. I have played SWG and now eq2. I will be the first to tell you that the people creating swg were idiots. They couldn't balance the game at all. They had horrible problems with the economy, cheating, canstant nerfs and that was just in the beginning of the game. Now we all have seen what they have done to it.
With that said these are not the same people who are developing EQ2. So, the only relation between the 2 games would be were the money comes from that funds the projects. Before the news of pvp in eq2 I would have never thought of playing for more than a month. Now that this has been introduced I gave it a shot. The rest of the game is solid. The classes are well balanced, tons of content, thousands of quest, the graphics are leaps and bonds above it's competitors such as WoW, I for one are really tired of people stating that it's the worst game on the planet and all that Sh!t....because it's not it is very much like WoW in terms of quality.
I have played WoW...it's a good game, everything works smoothly, alot of content, it has pvp even if the battlegrounds is a constant gank fest......without any point it is still there. Something I have also noticed is LAG....WAITING IN LINE TO LOGIN......and this in my opinion should never happen considering they pull in 75 million dollars a month in subscriptions....their servers should be so capable of handling this that it should never lag no matter the load. On another note the number of suscriptions that eq2 has is actually high in comparison to a normal MMORPG launch....it just doesn't stack up against WoW. I hope we are all smart enough to know that just because more people like something that doesnt' make it better.
1. Saying that artwork of wow is better then eq2 is like saying that rembrant is better then monet
its personal and subjectiv , you might say its not my cup of tea but you cant insultt 3d artist for the stile they do.i dont insult picasso because i dont personally like his work and dont wont it on my wall .
2. yes i think that wow graphic is sweet and nice but not better , landscape graphis is the only thing i prefer in wow because its not so seemless, also ligting i believe is nicer and mood and ambients are great ,
3 character animation in wow is dreadfull ..when they cast a spell they all just open their hands and keep shaking like an epileptic.... have you ever seen the character and emotes of eq2 its just great and girls dance and movement so feminine and sexy and very realistic and every spell has got different hand movement
lol good to see mucks back up with his normal comments we missed you lol anyways...
Im not sure I would call it the new champion, I love the game but I have to admit Im really waiting for the next gen mmos coming and I dont think thats the feeling I should get when playing the new champion of mmo games. I didnt when I played UO.... Anyways like I say I still like the game Im just not sure I would go that far.
WOW players are just getting scared they dont want their little game to die.
If you define 5.5 million subscribers as "little" what label do you assign to a game with less than a 10th of that, let alone a game with just a 100k, like Eve?
In what way would you claim EQ2 to be the champion of MMOPRGs? Apart from the fact that you like it more than the others, which doesn't count, since that's just personal preference.
You read half a dozen posts from WoW fanbois, defending their game, as you defend yours, and you make the massive assumptive leap that 5 million plus players, 3.5 million of them living in the far east and entirely unconcerned about affairs in the US or EU, are now scared their game will die.
In case you don't keep up on current affairs WoW is STILL growing. Even in the US and Europe it keeps selling units, despite loads of people quitting. But in the far east they have barely scatched the surface. I read an artilce that predicted that WoW could reach 5 million players in China alone, not to mention Korea and other far east nations.
Personally I wish WoW WOULD start to decline, then the devs might add some interesting non-raid orientated content, thats it both fun and interesting and rewarding to complete. I wish the bored level 60s that don't like raiding would quit enmasse so that Blizzard would realize the need to add lateral end game content, and steer away from various types of boring grind based rewards. I'd like ALL level 55 plus quests to give a reward beyond XP, so that they do not become obselete past the current level cap.

very nice post everquest 2 has come a very long way sense release. and the new PvP servers are going to ALOT of fun.Probably the most fun i have ever hade in a MMO.
EQ2 is a great game. All you have to do is try it out. I know SOE owns it, but the dev team truly does try and they have made EQ2 into a very respectable game. The community is great.
I have played WoW and I am very unimpressed with character creation and customization. Probably why I was done with it after the first month. I also couldn't stand the leet kiddies and very poor community.
If you haven't played EQ2 recently please don't bash. Give it a try and then give us an honest opinion. EQ2 had me hooked from the first day of the trial several months back. I love the character creation and customization(still could be improved upon, but good start). I even bought station access just to have 4 more characters.
Do know that like another poster already posted, just because you unintelligently bash EQ2 without truly trying it out and forecast its doom, it does not affect the intelligent people among us who will just see through such a blind and biased review.
Originally posted by templarga Interesting thread. I have a variety of responses.I played WOW to multiple level 60s and I have played EQ2 for a while to (currently level 47 Pally). Will EQ2 be the "champion"? I honestly do not think so. While I believe it should be, considering I find it the best "big-name" MMO on the market, I find it has too much going against. First, its SOE and after the experiences many people had with SWG (even though they are different dev teams), people are not willing to give any SOE game a chance. Also, naming EQ2, put many many expectations on the game from EQ1 players that the game could not live up too. It's like a sequel to your favorite movie - very rarely will the sequel be better. I think, if PvP is done correctly, EQ2 has the chance to become huge. Not WOW subscription numbers huge (which is an anamoly in the market most people will tell you) but huge in its own right. Since I have played, I have seen most servers go from light to heavy and if the anticipation of PvP is met with the potential it has, then the game should be big. Only time will tell. However some points have been made on this thread I want to add too. Many people like to taunt WOW's numbers. Thats fine, they have ~5 million subscribers. But you must remember the game is released in many many markets (US, EU, China, Taiwan, Korea). Most games do not release to that many markets. So if you look at the percentage of those who play in the number of markets the game is relased, it is quite small. Also, the 5 million subscriber data was taken in December 2005, the high point of WOW's release to Asia. Have we seen any subscription data since? So please understand, that to say WOW has 5 million subscribers is impressive, but take into account the number of places it is released, then the numbers are not as impressive. After all, I believe, when you consider other markets, I think Lineage or Lineage 2 may still be in the lead. Also, Vanguard will not be the end of EQ2. Many people are anticipating Vanguard, and while it will be a great game I am sure, it will be old-school. It will be very much like EQ1 - huge raids, camping mobs for hours, no instancing, large grinding level curves. This is my assumption from what I have gathered reading about it in various places. I think many people, and one reason WOW has such a large player base, is that MMO's have gotten easier in the last 2 years. People are not use to this type of game play and it does not appeal across many gaming lines. Vanguard to me will be a EQ1 killer if anything. I think many of us, who are use to the old-school grind, have gotten spoiled with WOW and EQ2. Instancing makes game play easier and the level curve is a joke. I had a 60 in WOW in less than 2 months and I have hit 47 in EQ2 in about 3 months. So while I think Vanguard will be a great game and a major hit with a lot of people, I think it will appeal to old school players more and will not have tremendous numbers like we are seeing with WOW (and possibly EQ2 after release of pvp). Now granted I expect vanguard to hit the Xbox 360 as well so that may help too. However, the MMO translation to consoles has not gone smoothly in the past.In the end, EQ2 will be a successful game. WOW successful? Not at all but as far as the game goes, it is fun to play, the community is great and right now, I believe it to be the best MMO on the market. So if you want to try it, please do by all means. Just know it has a large learning curve to really experience the game. To those who want to bash it, without thought or reason or support, please know that as much as you want to forecast the end of the game, nobody is buying what you say. Those who play know the game is successful because we make it so; so please take your SOE bashing, EQ2 hate elsewhere. Accept that its a good game with a dedicated playerbase.
SOOOOOOO freaking agree. u also didnt add that WOW is playable on apple/pc comps that even opens up more of the market for them. eq2 is only on windows so everyone needs to stoping using the "but WOW has 5 million subs" its because they are using the market to the fullest with that game. bliz just janked alot of money from all those wow subs bc oh how easy it is to lvl and the lack of content. not to mention the poor graphic engine they are also using. maybe thats why its playable on every comp dating back to 1995. its really a joke mmo just had alot of nice whisltes and bells to it. no real thought on end game and no real thought on new content/expansions. 2 thumbs down bliz for making a quick buck on a crap game.

Fanboi mutch?
WoW is a good game, its made for casual players, though has weak end game. Eq2 was a fairly hardcore game form start, but seeing how WoW dominated the market, it became clear what the recipe for selling big was. Thus EQ2 was shaped in to a more casual friendly game.
The changes in both games has everything to do with winning the most green dolla leafs. And to expand the market.
Originally posted by anarchyart WoW is a very fun game, has a huge franchise name behind it (yes, bigger than everquest) and it will play on ANY computer (even my sucky dell at work). EQ2 is a better game in every way (in my opinion) but you need a high end system to get the most out of it. Plus, SOE has a bad reputation, mostly undeserved (you notice I said mostly)-those things combined are EQ2's obstacles. Mature gamers will choose EQ2: they can afford a nice system and are less likely to boycott a company based on hearsay. Younger or immature (notice I said or--not all young gamers are immature) gamers will avoid games "because my friend said to" or because "I heard that it sucked". Mature gamers are more likely to form their own opinions based on their own experiences.
You sir are an idiot.
Just because someone doesn't like your pet game, doesn't mean they have to be either younger or immature. That ignorant statement relegates any opinion of yours to the wastebasket.
This site's purpose is to get feedback from other players about games and a mature player will research a game and choose based on honest feedback instead of fanboi hype. Unlike you, we can't all afford or spend all our time trying every game out there ourselves.
Also SOE's games subscription numbers are heavily influenced by station pass which includes all their games. I would venture to say that EQ1 leads their inventory in number of subscriptions if those numbers were actually divided by most played games per station pass.
