Aventurine Studios is looking into the technical issues to see if it is feasible to bring back Darkfall in response to player requests. A KickStarter is also being considered for financial support of Darkfall should it be relaunched.
Dear Darkfall Players,
I'd like to inform you that we are still investigating if it is possible to bring back Darkfall Online from a technical point of view.
Before doing a kickstarter, and if we do it, we have to find out all the possible problems and if there are any problems that we cannot solve in a logical timeframe after the kickstarter.
This means that we do not know if we are going to do a kickstarter for DFO. We still have not decided yet. It all depends on if we can see that we do not have very difficult technical problems to solve.
Thank you all for your attention.

Darkfall-1 was special and its premature death was painfull for a lot of players.
Seem that Av finally understand the mistakes they do in these last 2 years when they create a rotten and awfull sequel (unholy wars) noone asked for, and now they try to redeem themselves with a vanilla Darkfall server.
I will surely support DF1 if they continue the development, fix the bugs and update it with some of the best features of the unfortunate sequel.
Thanks to mmorpg.com for the exposure, this game deserve more visibility and all sandbox ffa pvp lovers should give it a try if they never did before.
Aventurine are listening to the community, bringing back the original Darkfall is something that many including myself are passionate about & willing to support.
So many MMORPG's today are WoW clone theme parks which don't provide the freedom, of instance free worlds with exhilirating combat, full loot PvP & guild systems that Darkfall did so well.
I read this and for me it perfectly describes the problem with people who want the type of game being described (and the challenge companies face who decide to try to fill this niche).
DF:UW is exactly what's described, but at the same time it's a "terrible game that no one wanted." Certainly the way you grind "EXP" is different between the games, but the core of them is the same type of gameplay - open world pvp, no (or little) restrictions, full loot, Guild V Guild, politics, economy, etc etc. And yet, out of no where, this person finds a way to link it to the "WoW Clone" experience.
It's ironic that companies who decide to make niche games, focusing on a small dedicated group of people, are basically setting themselves up for failure because the people who are asking for these games are essentially never happy with them and people who are on the fringe are "run-off" by the playerbase who are most adamant about particular features.
Pretty sure someone could research this and write themselves a PhD on the phenomena seen here (be sure to give me credit somewhere).
Dark Fall 1 was the best, AV has done nothing but drive DFUW into the ground the game just doesn't feel sand-box based anymore, class systems, and too many limits especially when they added the crafting patch making level crafts and making things 100x harder.
I Prefer the original DF better, and yes its possible to bring it back unless they completely destroyed the game source codes.
DF1 made players' hearts race like no other game.
The gfx in DF:UW are more "modern" but they have lost the uniqueness that DFO had (alongside having a much more cluncky gameplayer).
Let's hope AV can bring back a good DF1!

Eh? I thought that this was being done because of apparent player demand?

^ What exactly is being implied here? Not every MMO is led by people as terribad as AV.

We all know df coming back is dfuw death. (DFUW is supported by df1 vets). I loved df1 and like dfuw, I see no point of paying a company that has no idea with what it wants to do. They have only been balancing combat in dfuw because 4 builds is so hard to keep balanced, and the community literally cries about every single time a new meta develops.
Do I really want to pay $15 a month for a 5 year old game where they spend even more time on a harder system to balance? (It is superior but if people cry about the few gaps of power in 9 skill builds i don't want to imagine the tears from this community with a 100+ skill build). I was already planning on quitting if dfuw patch took more than a reasonable amount of time (including some leeway with delays) but I highly doubt they can put df1 up to todays standards in a reasonable amount of time as well as progressing it from its form from when it closed down.
Id imagine the part about cheaters, botters and imbalanced skills. There is a reason big ban waves are constant news.
make sure to let potential backers know what kind of company behind this crappy sandbox game.
make sure it fails kickstarter if it ever come fruition.
The initial Darkfall was horrible. The PVP design has a disaster because players could stack skills upon skills to make super characters.
Unless you got in the initial race and macroed the heck out of your skills you were strictly 2nd rate.
Anyone thinking the initial Darkfall was good has rocks in the belfry.
I was referring to the Welcome to MMO gaming comment, I totally understood what the first guy ment.
