The situation is way beyond absurd! This would all go away so easily.

I must admit, I am baffled now... At first I thought that SOE/LA just had a major case of lack of vision... No direction... But now coming online directly to attack their critics on every forum and post there is? This is just nuts! The posts at Joystiq and PA just further enflame the community, alienates their intended target customers and basically gives the people that have been bashing them all along reason!
This would all go away soooo easily. Instead of attacking everything that critics them on every online front, wasting time, money, effort and loosing more of their intended customers, they should just come online and say: "The buck stops here!" They don't even have to apologize or even roll back. All that they would have to say is that they will stop making promotions, expansions, etc. and that they will concentrate on FIXING THE DAMN GAME! Maybe it won't win us all back, Lord knows I wouldn't go back. But the NGE style of play has it's fans, and it could make a decent game, maybe a successful one if the just FIXED THE DAMN GAME! But what they are doing is just absurd!

You miss the point that posting on forums defending your actions is much, much easier (cheaper) than actually trying to fix the issue that started the problem in the first place.

SOE's biggest problem now isn't their customers, but the people who might one day be their customers. If they allow ever Tom, Dick and Harry to post bad things about them without response, people will begin to think there must be a grain of truth to all the stories.
On the other hand, if SOE begins to respond to these accusations, especially ones where the CEO of the company is doing it, then they might throw enough doubt into the situation to help their reputation. One thing I think a lot of people forget is that Smedley isn't a stupid man, he will do whatever he thinks is best to keep his own backside looking good, even if it isn't the most logical thing.

If you build a quality game and not change the engine drastically not once but twice over the player bases object then you would nto need to defend your game.
If you actually completed the story arcs you started and truely added real content then you would not need to defend your game from the players that you drove off.
If you did not feel that the only way to balance your professions was via the nerf bat then you would not need to feel like the world is being unfair to you.
At the end of the day, it is not the players that alienated the company....
they are payign the piper for the very dance that they asked for and started.

Even by your logic, it still doesn't make sense. This week, SOE was the talk of town in our little corner of the internet. The appeared on PA, GU Comics, Joystiq, etc... If nothing had been said by them, those articles would've passed without a stir. But since they launched an attack against them, now they are plastered everywhere and they are the talk of everybody. Have you noticed how many noobs we have in these forums these past few days???
I believe this will hurt them more than they realize. Do you think that someone sees posts like the one on Joystiq or PA and says: "Damn, everyone is saying that SOE games are crap, and now even the president is coming to those sites to defend his games... I better check them out!" Or: "Hey, WoW has 3 million people playing it, Lineage 1 and 2 have 2 million each, CoH/CoV is doing pretty well and even EVE Online has 100K subs and consistently has 20K online on one server... But SOE has EQ1, EQ2, a game with The Matrix license and a game with THE STAR WARS license, and yet they only have 800K between all of them... I better check SOE's games out!! "

I find the situation comical not necessarily absurd if they are taken time to address these off sites, they darn well know the press is slamming them from main stream as in Washington Post to the other sites that posted players E mail responses to the news articles. They would only go on the attack if there was a slight grain of truth to what all the critics were saying.
2nd if they spent more time fixing there own back yard maybe the dirty laundry wouldn't be so public as it is now?
Part of the problem was the were to concerned about potential future players and not paid enough attention to what was in there own back yard already.............
Maybe instead of arguing with players they should try to fix this piece of junk they call a game. I really don't see the problem with a rollback. They have what, about 50k playing right now(and dropping), why not try to bring the old game back. They may end up with 100k players. I don't think it could get any worse than it is now.
I am going to keep dogging them and their games until they do the right thing and roll the mother back, and I have the suspicion that im not alone. Any company that turns a non-complaing, content, and long term customer (which believe it or not i was) into an avid and determined basher of their products....well, I think that company has some work to do.
I may not be the target audience, but I have a key board, an internet connection, and a high limit credit card. I will do what I can.

Maybe their doing it because they are sick of stupid people. You see I've notieced most forum goers don't really care about the facts, all they really care about is bashing a game they don't like. Doesn't matter if the bashing has no basis in fact, as long as it's derogatory to the company making the game they don't like.
Oh and as far as I know, the guy from marketing doesn't have a lot to do with fixing bugs in a game, so he is doing his job by bashing morons.

By 2007 the last nge publish will be done and the game will be working. Maybe. Depending on who decides to do something drastic.
SWG suffers from subscription envy. Always has. Instead of chasing the genre soe should focus on defining it.
